It looks like conditions here are a go for launch of more than 500 Hot Air Balloons for the 6th straight day. Despite a pesky cutoff low pressure system west of us that has created instability mostly in the afternoons(the same system that sparked several rare tornados in the Flagstaff area), mornings have remained virtually wind free and well within launch parameters. With the low lifting north, things look good for the possibility of 9 for 9 successful launches for the duration of the event, which ends Sunday with another mass ascension. The 9 day event will be attended by around 750,000 people. Special Shape Balloons are the highlight for today, featuring the Darth Vader Balloon, Penguin, The popular Bee family, and many more special balloons. It is a beautiful site to see the launch of all these balloons and to see them aloft. The view from the field as they inflate and ascend is breathtaking. This event starts on the first Saturday in October every year.
