Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, March 20, 2014
Wintry weather will persist over the Northeast as a low pressure system continues moving eastward from the Great Lakes and across eastern Canada. This system will bring snowy conditions to the extreme Northeast from northern New York through Maine. Snowfall totals will range from 2 to 4 inches, with up to 6 inches possible in northern Maine. Thus, winter storm advisories have been issued across the extreme Northeast. Warmer temperatures along the southern side of this system will allow for a mix of rain and snow showers to spread across the rest of the New England states on Thursday.
Meanwhile, behind this system in the West, a trough of low pressure will continue moving eastward from the Pacific Northwest through the northern Rockies and northern Plains. Moisture will be limited with this system and thus snowfall totals will range from 2 to 3 inches. Strong winds will accompany this system with gusts up to 35 and 40 mph at highest mountain passes. The leading edge of this system may push snow showers across the Dakotas and into northern Minnesota late Thursday night. Dry conditions will persist for the rest of the Western states as high pressure remains the dominant weather feature from the Southwest through the southern Plains.
