Re: Bitterly Cold Air In Place!

Look for temperatures to drop into the 15 to 20 below range for tonight! There is a wind chill advisory for the state until Tuesday morning. We could see wind chill values dropping to 30 to 35 below zero! Do dress warmly. Exposed skin will freeze within just minutes!

We did pick-up some snow Sunday night into Monday morning. One to three inches was common across Central, West Central, and most of Southern Minnesota. We could see some additional light snow Wednesday into Friday. Temperatures will warm-up along the way. Thursday, we could see 20 degrees--that is above zero!

Much of Minnesota is starting to see more ample rainfall amounts. This has helped with the crops in parts of the state. Many parts of the Central Plains and Southwest US are still very much in a drought situation, however.

I know talking to a farmer friend of mine at church, that the warm early spring allowed him to plant his wheat crop early. Coupled with the adequate rainfall amounts early in the season, he really had a nice yield of wheat this year. If he hadn't been able to plant so early, the heat and lack of rainfall later in the season would have gotten most of his crop. Farming sure is a gamble and a situation of getting just the right amount of warmth and rainfall "just when you need it...."

The week started off hot and humid once again, but now we are in store for some cooler conditions. It looks like cooler conditions will settle in for much of the weekend. Highs will feel nice and comfortable for a change with highs over the weekend generally in the mid 70s. Lows overnight could actually drop into the 50s at times.

In case you haven't noticed, the days are getting much shorter. We are losing nearly three minutes of daylight each and every day. As a result, we are losing over 20 minutes of daylight a week now.

Have a great weekend!

Weather fact: Frost is ice that is formed by the "condensation of atmospheric water vapor on a surface when the temperature of the surface is below 32°F (0°C)." In the formation of frost, a gas (water vapor) is changed directly to a solid.
