Weather Summary for the House of Stauss, located near Trimble, MO, for February 2008.
Snow and cold dominated the month of February, just like they did in December and January. There was snow or ice observed on the ground all but 4 days of the month.

The month started off pretty calm with couple decent days on the 1st and 2nd. On the 3rd we woke up to thunder, sleet, rain and snow. We ended up with just over 1/4 inch of liquid precip. On the fifth things got even crazier. Heavy rain that resulted in over 3/4 inch that changed to heavy snow just before midnight. 6 inches of snow fell the night of the 5th and into the 6th.

Things were actually pretty calm after that until the 16th. On the 16th we received just over 3/4" of rain followed by 2/3" on the 17th that changed over to 4" of heavy wet snow. The bottom then dropped out on the temperature. We went from a high of 39 on the 19th to a low of 2 on the 20th.

There was a total lunar eclipse on the 20th that was visible in my location. I got some pretty decent pictures that I will update this blog with in the near future. Taking pictures of the eclipse with wind chills in the teens below 0 was not fun.

The month ended pretty calm with temps just below normal and no precip. Most of the snow was gone by the end of the month.

Rainfall 2.59 (liquid + snowmelt) about 11 in. snow (30 inches for the season so far) Normal snow for the entire winter is 20 in. We had .89" of rain last Feb.


High Wind was 33 mph on the 25th and 26th.

There was a new record for the House of Stauss since this station has been in operation (3/17/06). A wind chill of -18.8 was recorded on the 20th.
The current records are a high temperature of 102.4 on August 9th 2006 a low temp of -4.1 on January 19, 2008. The highest wind speed recorded remains at 37mph on May 3, 2007.
