Good Mornin', Folks!

(((Pros))) ~ Thanks for the lovely Robert Frost poem and October graphic! It's the perfect way to start this month, especially, when the Robert Frost house/farm museum, in Derry, NH, is closing down for the season this Sat. Oct. 6th. As is the norm these days, I traveled past it yesterday afternoon while taking my father-in-law and hubby to visit my mother-in-law. I think the inclement weather hampered those tourists who might have had plans to visit, as the parking lot was nearly empty. I haven't had the chance nor the curiosity to visit there, as it looks just like a regular old home, containing some old furniture and artifacts during his residency. I'd rather stay at home, when able, and just quietly read some of his poetry. Peace, quiet and finding time to myself is quite the rare commodity for me these days. LOL!

Hard to believe that September has now been and gone and it's the first of October already!
Beginning today and throughout much of the week, we are anticipating a pleasant warm up to the low or mid 70's!!! We just wish it could hang around throughout much of the fall season like last year. Unfortunately, I don't know if El Nino will allow that. I just hope that it doesn't include a winter of serious snowstorms or power outages.

Last night, once all the weekend rain and clouds disappeared, hubby and I finally got to see the "Harvest Moon" illuminate brightly in the sky. We wished our neighborhood street lights could always brighten as effectively as this seasonal lunar wonder. LOL! Talk about nature's great nightlight! I'm wondering if anyone knows the name of the moon which appears as a humongous orange globe just after dusk. I haven't seen one of those in ages, but it certainly has a uniquely syfy quality to it.

For you avid PATS fans out there, eh NEw?, the N.E. PATS sure redeemed themselves, yesterday, during the second quarter, with their come from behind 52 - 28 win over the Buffalo Bills. I can't remember their ever winning over any team with such a high score! Hope their new-found mojo will last throughout the entire season, especially, when playing against the more notable NFL teams in the weeks ahead.

Gotta run, again, hope everyone's doing well and/or managing well enough for now. Hope to do more posting a bit later. Take care!

Hubby's continuing to be doing reasonably well and is itch'n to get outside and partake of this week's arrival of milder temps during breaks from any rainfall or overcast skies. We already have enough beckoning fallen oak leaves and acorns in our yard, so I'm happy that hubby's up to the task of helping me gather up some of these seasonal pesky remnants. It should provide us with some great exercise (though quite paced) and needed fresh air, as I tend to become an indoor hermit once wintry air moves in more permanently. When temps reach the 30's, people generally mistake me for the (much layered) Michelin woman while outside. LOL!

Gotta run out and buy some gas for our lawnmower, as hubby's getting antsy and there's some rain seemingly moving our way from the western but more southwestern portion of Mass. Hope it either stays more south of us or is quick moving.

It's been another busy week around here and difficult to get online and post. Nevertheless, I wanted to do a bit of updating to my blog (especially, since it's "Breast Cancer Awareness Month") and remark about how disappointing our daytime temps have been throughout much of this week. Originally, we were to receive some warm 70-ish temps along with the tropical rainy system which has periodically moved its way through our region. Unfortunately, the rain and overcast has kept us in the lower 60's. At least, there's been no mention of snow or sleet in our immediate future! WHEW! Hopefully, tomorrow's forecast for mid-70, sunny weather will come to fruition and give us one last summer-like hurrah before another cold front moves in on Sunday. I'm tired of layered flannels being the months on end mainstay of my daily wardrobe. LOL!

Busy afternoon ahead with another doctor's appointment for hubby plus other needed errands to run. Hope everyone has a decent enough Thursday ahead of them.

Good Morning Everyone!

I've finally found some time to catch my breath and get online again. It's been a hectic past week of appointments, chores and chauffering my 91 yr old father around. At least, hubby and I were able to take a little time, over this past Columbus Day weekend, to soak in some of the beautiful fall scenery while taking a ride to, then a short walk alongside part of a relatively nearby New Hampshire lake. It was so picturesque and peaceful, especially, while watching some of the "Day Sailor" sailing boats slowly gliding around out in the midst of its glassy-like waters. Unfortunately, our time there was short-lived, as I had to head back to pick up my father-in-law. Hopefully, hubby and I can find another day, before too long, where we can return for a more extended relaxing visit.

Hard to believe that, one year ago, our October weather set records with an 87 degree day, far warmer than usual daytime temps and ended with a serious Halloween snowstorm and power outage. UGH! There apppears no chance of another unusually high heatwave happening this go round, as our recent temps have remained lower than average (40's as lows to mid-upper 50's as highs). Brrrr! However, next week's forecast indicates possible daytime temps reaching 75, but with chances of slight rainfall accompanying it. Truthfully, I don't care if there's rain as long as we can feel some returning soothing natural warmth! Ahhh!

Wishing all of you a good day and week ahead! Time for me to muster up more energy to tackle those daily chores both indoors and out! At least, there doesn't appear to be as many fallen acorns on the ground as last year! They're great for arts and crafters but not for this tired ole broad. LOL!

PLAP, TOMBALL, BOGAN, PROS, ROB ET AL ~

Thanks so much for stopping by and thinking of me and our other WU friends who may be in T/S Sandy's current pathway! I've been so busy this past week that my head's been spinning like Sandy's. Thankfully, I've finally found a few moments to get online (while hubby's been fed and taking a nap) to somewhat update my blog and respond, albeit late, to some recent kind posts/messages left here. Despite my absence from the blogs, I still think of you all and hope that life and Mother Nature are treating you kindly or kinder.

Hope to get back online sometime before the weekend's over, as I have many more chores and errands to do today, chauffeur my elderly F-I-L, with hubby in tow, tomorrow (so to visit my M-I-L ) plus obtain more emergency supplies for all of us. At least, my F-I-L has a large working generator hooked up and an emergency easy to handle senior cell phone handy.

Boy, this is the second Halloween in a row where treacherous weather has pre-dampened the spirits of what used to be a usually fun-filled holiday. It has definitely taken on a whole new scary meaning. Wish Mother Nature would go back to bringing us pleasant weather treats instead these unusually mean seasonal tricks!!!

Right about now, I could use a nice long nap after another quite hectic week and constant interruptions (when attempting to post) from hubby, etc. ZZZZZzzzzz - Ooops, sorry I dozed off there. LOL!

TOMBOY ~ Nice to hear from a new posting buddy! I totally agree with you about having to deal with a redux of that abundantly snowy 2010!! I don't think I could handle it at this point. Hopefully, with this being an El Nino winter (vs the La Nina of 2010), our winter should contain less moisture in the air for those snowy overkills. I have the feeling this New England winter may be more artically (sp?) cold with just a few manageable snowstorms. Naturally, I could very easily be wrong since I live in fickle-weathered New England where unexpected confluences of events have been known to happen. Hope you'll drop by again to post and FINGERS CROSSED FOR THE BEST!

BOGON ~ So good to hear from you again! Wish I could post on your site more often as well. I often think of your blogheader, a year or so ago, concerning dealing with elderly parents. It was so insightful and apropos to what I've been dealing with since January. It's so hard to remain patient sometimes when dealing with hardcore belligerence brought on by age and circumstances. Nevertheless, I'm soldiering on as best I can! LOL! Hope that life is treating you kindly in your neck of the woods!

So sorry to hear that you've been suffering with so much physican pain!! Naturally, my thoughts and prayers are with you during these most challenging moments! Speaking of which, I'm so concerned as to how T/S Sandy will affect you and your area. Hubby and I have begun making plans for what to do if our power goes out, etc. Our old generator bit the dust last year and we only have a small one left (1,000 watts) to cover our energy efficient refrigerator. Naturally, if it gets too cold or difficult to remain in our home, we will definitely seek out relatives, friends or a hotel (no matter how far) with power. Hope you and RainDad and all others are prepared and make out A-Okay, as you, especially, have had more than enough to contend with lately.

ROB ~ Hey, good buddy, thanks for your kind thoughts and so glad to know you and our other WU friends, living near the affected eastern shores of Florida, have seemingly made out okay from any of T/S Sandy's rain and winds. We've begun to batten down the hatches around here, as our MA Governor has also declared an early "State of Emergency" just in case. Better to err on the side of caution. Just hope our eastern Mass. shorelines don't take too direct a hit as, despite recent restoration measures in some towns/cities alongside, the beaches have shown signs of tremendous errosion or permanent damage this past decade.

May all my WU friends, living in or around the affected areas of the Eastern Seaboard snd further inland, please be prepared, stay safe, warm and well! BIG WARM HUGS!! ~ MASS.

Good Morning Everyone!

Literally breezin' on by (with increasing wind gusts of 41 mph and steady rainfall) to say hello (while the power remains on -- fingers crossed, as even the slightest incident seems to affect us these days) -- and update you on the weather situation in our locale. Currently reported by METS, Sandy's outer winds will be picking up to 51 - 55 mph around here but with far lesser rainfall or winds (70 mph)felt in the Southeastern portions of New England, i.e., Mass., Cape Cod & Islands, RI, and CT. Hopefully, everyone's fully prepared by now for any eventuality.

If our weather and electrical power permits, I'll try to give updates later this evening or tomorrow. I have to begin cooking up some of our frozen foods (to reheat later by gas grill) or eat cold just in case the power goes out.

(((Ally!)))~ What a wonderful surprise to hear from you again! I guess, these days, you've been rather busy with either your business or just sticking with Facebook. Hope you'll continue checking in here with your long-lost WU buddies, especially, with all the upcoming holidays rapidly approaching. It just isn't the same without you, OGal and Emmy to liven up the blogs. STAY WELL AND KEEP IN TOUCH AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN! For now, hubby and I are weathering this eventful storm A-Okay. We're well prepared with food, batteries, radios, a small generator and a SAFE indoor propane gas heater.

(((Barefoot))) ~ Great hearing from you, too, and thanks for your well wishes as we, in the Northeast, encounter yet another unusual October weather event. I'm just glad it doesn't include the feet of snow like last year at this time. We ended up with a 36 hr power outage (which was lucky for us, as the electric company's auto-messages kept pushing the timeline to days on end) and had our power restored 2:00 pm Halloween day. What a treat! LOL! It's always hard to know how each of these various storms will effect us. Last year, we made out fine with Hurricane Irene but got nabbed by the unexpected Nor'Easter snowstorm. Fingers crossed with this one, but we're fully prepared at home! Hope you're doing well and stay in touch!

(((Pros))) ~ Glad to know you're feeling well enough to get back online and post. I truly hope the effects of your nasty headcold and that of Sandy will all subside real soon. Smart thinking on the part of you and hubby for cooking up meals, ahead of time, while your utilities are on. We're doing the same thing. Better to have enough cooked food on hand, to last a few days, than to watch our frozen foods thaw and waste. I'm frugal or practical to the end! LOL!

I'm happy to keep reposting the maps of your local area and region during these weather challenges! When I later have a chance, I'll try to post you simple instructions on how to do it yourself. It's really not that difficult as long as your computer doesn't freeze up (like mine periodically does) from time to time. Good Morning All!

It's been an exhaustive past few days for us, as our power went out for nine hours (Mon. 3:15 pm till around early am Tues., 12:15 am). My 91 yr old F-I-L had his power go out in Salem, NH from Monday afternoon till late last night. He had to be picked up by my brother-in-law, who owns a large truck and had power throughout, to stay with him. Thankfully, everyone made out fine and our emergency supplies and early food preparations served us well. It didn't hurt that our outside temps remained around 58 - 60 degrees that night either, so it remained a comfortable 70 inside without the use of a generator.

I had to spend most of yesterday having to reschedule various appointments scheduled for Monday through today; along with, fulfilling many other administrative needs required and due for hubby, my F-I-L and me by today. WHEW!

Truthfully, however, we feel soooo lucky compared to the vast devastation seen along the Eastern/Northeastern seaboards, Southern New England coastlines and quite inland, too. I truly feel for all those greatly affected.

It's quite something when the New York Stock Exchange, subway systems and most of Manhattan must close down a few days due such devastating flooding. It was also reported, last night, that the last weather-related closing for the NYSE was in 1888! Historical weather-related events are closing in on us more and more each year! Scary, indeed!

It's going to take quite some time for NYC, Manhattan, Queens (which experienced a devastating fire that destroying a large block (80-100) of homes to make a come back. It was also amazing to see on TV the incredible evacuation that took place within a NYC hospital, when their large backup generators didn't work and critical neonatal (babies) and other patients had to be air-bagged by hand, by individual nursing staff; who with other rescuers had to make their way down many flights of flashlit stairs to awaiting fleets of ambulances. Again, so many heroic stories to tell but, sadly, another large tally (60 people, thus far) of weather related human losses.

This hurricane really puts into perspective, too, that those of us residing in the Northeastern regions of this Country, are not exempt from the ever-increasing damaging hurricanes, tornadoes, wind-shears and floods that, in years past, were mostly felt in and around the Central, Midwestern, Southern and Gulf regions of the U.S.

Again, my thoughts and prayers remain with all who've suffered greatly and hope that FEMA continues to respond as quickly as the NJ Governor and NY Governor and Mayor have all claimed it has for them.

P.S. We lucked out with that vicious t'storm (still related to Sandy) sweeping through last night; receiving only some downpours with lightning and thunder seen in a short distance. I haven't heard of any serious resulting damages from last night's t'storm as of this am. Hope all managed well.

HALLOWEEN TRICK OR TREATING AS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR THIS SAT., NOV. 2nd from (5-7 pm) in our community. Truthfully, we're going to draw the shades, keep outside lights out and just rest up this go round.

Thanks again for all the good wishes, concerns and wonderful Halloween revelry that you've posted below. They really lift the spirits! Sorry that I couldn't get back on line earlier, but my much needed nap lasted longer than originally planned. Nevertheless, despite this second year of harrowing pre-Halloween weather catastrophes, I feel like lifting some better spirits from beyond tonight by recycling those traditionally fun filled Halloween music and graphics of yesteryear. Hope that those of you who may be up late and still online are able to enjoy them. Let's hope that November will soon bring recovery and hope to those unable to enjoy this years holiday festivities. Prayers up!
