I just love this reposted pic (above) originally found in the Approved Photos section of WU last summer!! It's so reflective of the waning days of August and summer as a whole. Hopefully, those effected by T/S Irene's wrath can return to these more pleasingly placid and safer weather views before too long!

This is a composite plot of the radar summary, echo tops, storm movement, TVS and MESO signatures and watch boxes. The radar summary is color coded by precip type. Greens, yellows and reds are rain. Pinks are mixed precipitation (freezing rain, sleet). Blues are snow. NOTE: Radar data is susceptible to a phenomena called anomalous propagation. This generally happens at night and appears as a area of 20 dBZ echos (darkest green) which is centered around each radar site and expands with time. To try and reduce the problem, low echo values near the radar sites have been removed.

Cool Wx W/No Skunk or Coyote in Sight!

By: masshysteria, 12:27 PM GMT on August 01, 2011

Fri., 08-05-11 - I'm thrilled to report that the mysterious powdery skunk repellant my hubby, "the Skunk Whisperer", spread around the other morning continues to work!!! So nice to wake up to fresh air and a quieter (no banging of pots and pans) rodent-free backyard again! Additionally, there's been no further sightings reported of that alleged coyote lurking nearby. WHEW! Hope that these pesky wildlife distractions have abated enough, so we can focus on getting our home renovators, etc. to miraculously complete their job before fall sets in. Did I mention that it will be one month next, Thurs., Aug. 11th, since they've been working here?

So glad to hear that T/S Emily seems to have diminished, and her contents are tacking sharply East of Florida after all.

A SKUNK, A CONTRACTOR, ELECTRICIANS AND NOW A COYOTE SIGHTING .... OH MY!!

Thurs., 08-04-11, 6:45 pm

Here's another interesting neighborhood newsflash just brought to me by my hubby. One of our neighbors has just informed him that the police were in our area the other day (guess the one and only animal officer finally quit or went on strike) as there was a reported sighting of a coyote roaming around in nearby yards. Glad ole Wile E. Coyote didn't meet up with our Pepe' Le Pew the other day or it could have been a scene comparable to Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. Way too gorey for my tastes!! For some odd reason, our area's beginning to turn into some sort of strange and challenging wildlife refuge! Wish we could go back to last summer's daily visits by cuter, kinder, gentler bunnies and those hilarious, one time only, nine parading ducks. Now, that's more my speed!!

Thurs.., 08-04-11, 2:50 pm Electricity Back On!!!

Well, the electrical workers have finally finished up, yet another lengthy job around here, by raising our outdoor electrical wiring to meet proper code and re-connecting the wiring of our two doorbells that were left undone by other electricians (in '08) who forgot to reconnect them after installing our generator panel. More electrical work has to be done next week after the contractor finishes (LOL) his work in the Florida room. Next Thursday, Aug. 11th, is our one month anniverary with this outfit. Hope all is miraculously completed done before Labor Day!

It's miserable being without electricity for any length of time, especially, with those milk products in the fridge and no battery-powered laptop to communicate. Thankfully, the weather's been gorgeous today without excessive heat or humidity. :) Everything's a trade-off these days.

Re: The Skunk Saga or Hostage Crisis

Early this am, my hubby dumped this mysterious powder (I'm afraid to ask at this point) around those trees and shrubs that were visited (in the past 36 hrs) by our stedfastly foraging neighborhood skunk. Thus far, it has miraculously seemed to work!!! We both watched closely and were pleasantly relieved that the varmit crept up to the powdered area, took a sniff, turned on his heels and vamoosed far beyond the back of our neighbor's yard. Hopefully, this obviously disoriented neighborhood hostage taker will continue to forage elsewhere while seeking out his endless supply of happy meals. I honestly don't know where he puts it all!

I have to admit that, earlier this am, it was pretty humorous to see my hubby initially banging pots and pans around in his efforts to deter the little devil from entering back into the premises.

Thankfully, our neighbors were also awake and quite aware of the situation at hand. Everyone has placed a call to a now unresponsive animal officer and have now been informed that if you want him permanently removed, one will have to hire a professional exterminator. Well, I guess that's the price one pays for living in the country and in a town with recent budget cuts. LOL! We made sure to inform all the workers that if they saw a black and white furry animal milling about them, don't yell out ... HERE, KITTY, KITTY KITTY!! Will keep you posted of any further developments.
