06:30, 33F, clear. waning half moon over the house. guard dog at back door. woke up to some strange noises. sounded like the chickens but I just checked them and they seem alright. hawk hunting woodlot. must have a nest nearby. stoked up the fire, ham and egg for breakfast.
10:30, 60F, clear with a slight breeze. warming up fast. took the old reddog for a long walk. this cold weather has got him creaky but we walked slowly and stopped in the sunny places. hate to see him slowly whithering away. he has bad arthritis. he looks good though with a thick red winter coat. got 2 eggs. downy woodpecker excavating a dead pine limb.
17:20, 66F. startled 6 does and yearlings in the donkey wood lot. they faded into the brush to the north. lovely creatures. glad to see them coming back to the farm.
20:20, 55F, calm and clear. stars and planets bright tonight. the laurel and live oak leaves are beginning to turn and drop so that more stars show through the trees.
