By: marsHen , 11:17 AM GMT on August 07, 2013

06:20, 75F, foggy. overslept. roosters, crows, and a carolina wren carrying on. guardian out barking in cactus field. walk down the lane with pup. pale sun rising. pretty out.
09:00, 78F. low tide rising at west pass, suwannee river. sampling the fish population between west pass and shell mound with 3 offshore trawls and offshore sets with the bait seine. east wind, 10 knts. a light chop. large 10 ft. alligator catching the morning sun in the juncus on our way out of the channel. cormorants on the channel markers. water temps in the river, 28F, 82F. an offshore set at the mouth of the river was done in mud over our knees. offshore the water temps reached 30C, 86F. trawl catches were low, mostly anchovies, catfish, and small flatfish. seine catches varied. a lot of anchovies in all of the catches. one catch was remarkable in that it pulled in 2 huge black drum, a dozen catfish, several small, YOY, stingrays, and a wide variety of baitfish, mostly juveniles. no way that would fit into our 5 gallon bucket to bring back to the boat so we loaded the seine bag into the net well and sorted and measured from there. all fish identified, measured, counted, and returned to the water.
13:00, wind switched to the south, 5 knts. strong current rushing into the marshes. partly cloudy, sunny. water was very dark from the influence of the river with a white frothy line marking the meeting of salt and fresh water.
15:30, 85F at back door. clouding up. nap time.
16:40, 79F. thunderstorm woke me up. got 1.0" of rain. cooled things off. got 3 eggs.
20:50, 77F, fog forming. partly cloudy. more stars than usual coming out. pleasant walk with pup down the lane.
