05:15, 64F, overcast. no moon, no stars. very dark out. yellow dogs under house. pups out in back yard. lamb bottle warming up. roosters quiet.
06:10, 64F, wolf light. head lamp to barn to feed lambs. fog. twins ready for bottle. reba's lamb missing. looked all over fold. no lamb. call dog. no dog. go to hay barn. guardian sitting just outside building, looking in.. reba's ram lamb, wandering around behind the hay.. have no idea how he got on the farm side of the fence. dazed reunion.. finishjed chores in the sheep side of the fence and left with crossed fingers.
08:30, high tide at suwannee. low 60's, NE wind, 5 knts. overcast and chilly. lots of folks launching boats this a.m. water, light chop. did trawls and boat sets with the bait seine from west pass upriver to east pass and out to the mouth. the marshes tawny now and the cypress a deep rust color. water clear to 2 meters. no gators, mostly ospreys and a lot of vultures perched on bare cypress. this is an annual winterly thing. not sure if the lower suwannee is just a popular stop-over on their way to miami, or if they stick around. low catches with a lot of YOY blue crabs and one huge male blue crab. there were 2 trawls where 35 gallons of small black worm tubes got picked through finding mostly YOY bluecrabs and anchovies in those trawls. other sets upriver and down east pass netted mangrove snapper and a juvenile large-mouth bass. water, 19C, 67F, a light chop. a strong current. overcast and chilly.
13:00, stop at farm to check on lambs. all o.k.
13:30, low tide at CK, south wind, 8 knts. ducks in channel. sandpipers on the mud banks. cleaned gear and boat. worked up mercury samples. cat was glad to see me. white pelicans back in the creeks.
15:30, medium tide rising at #4 bridge. ducks!cows lying down at a few farms. hope they're correct and we get some rain. we need rain bad.
18:20, 68F, slight wind. fog but stars visible. lovely evening.
