Major addition to my blog...taking action. Want to help?
Hi, we are Lucy Keenan and Andrew Bruch.
Our dear friend Ellis Anderson, a resident and community leader of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, has contacted us with an urgent appeal for help. During the worst of the storm people literally swam to her house (one of the oldest and most sound structures in the city) and she is setting up a staging ground for rescue work. Bay St. Louis is one of the communities hardest hit by Katrina and has received no outside help (i.e., NO Red Cross, NO national guard, nothing). This is a small community without resources. Those homes that are still standing are lacking roofs and more storms are coming. Neighbors are helping neighbors, but they need support (roofing supplies, food, water, toiletries, etc.) They need YOUR help. Drew and I are driving a truck down from DC and filling it with the supplies that they need. Ellis will be calling us shortly with a list of exactly what the community needs. We need YOUR donations.
Regarding food and sundries: You can go to Walmart.com and send an online gift card to a1bruch@comcast.net (Andrew Bruch). Please donate what you can though the online gift card link below:

Regarding building supplies: Because Home Depot doesn't allow you to buy lumber online and the gift cards have to be sent through the mail which will take too long (both Home Depot and Lowe's do it this way) we are using Drew's Pay Pal account which is accessed through http://www.paypal.com/. You will have to sign up for an account if you don't have one already, an easy thing to do. Please donate what you can.

We will leave with a truck Friday morning and will arrive Saturday AM in BSL. We will use your funds at national retailers in DC and will stop one last time outside the zone of devastation and pick up last minute supplies.
This is an urgent request. Please act ASAP. For more information please contact Drew at a1bruch@comcast.net or 202-487-1278.
Thanks so much,
Lucy and Drew
PS Many of you may not know me and Drew personally, so this is who we are. Drew is a document translator (French and German) and I am in the final year of my doctorate in psychology at George Washington University. Ellis was in our wedding this past New Year's Eve in New Orleans and is very active in the BSL community. My family house was in Pass Christian (just over what used to be the Bay Bridge from BSL). I'm sure the house is matchsticks along with all of the family heirlooms (I'm most missing my grandfather's architectural drawings - they were nice). The purpose right now is to preserve what is left and functioning in these communities and we know how to get into the community and we know exactly they need. All we need is your support.
PSS Ellis said to be sure to tell anyone I talked to that there is NO looting in BSL. Everyone is working together as one community. She also said that the destruction was profound. Please help.
Hi, I'm looking for information about Bay St. Louis, MS and Pass Christian, MS. Does anyone have info regarding damage assessments? I have friends that rode out the storm...really freaked and no one can get through and just heard on the news about blogs...wish I had thought of it earlier. I'd really love some information.
