Whenever we're fortunate enough to be in the Brandywine, DE area -- and we try to get lucky at least twice a year -- Longwood Gardens in nearby Kennett Square, PA is on the itinerary.
Springtime in the botanical gardens and conservatories at Longwood Gardens is always special. This trip we enjoyed the trees, just coming into bloom, the tulips -- almost as far as the eye could see -- and unusual displays, like the pincushion flowers that sparkle like nature's fireworks.
Longwood is also known for the visual concert of its programmed fountain displays, and for the concerts of sound played on its world-famous organ.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if every wealthy family endowed a botanical extravangza like Longwood Gardens, the gift of Pierre S. du Pont?
