tomato season came in like a lion and out like a wimpering mess of rotten foul stinking fruit...
whose idea was it to have no rain june and july but then have a deluge in august?? first my plants were pummeled to the ground by the wind, then we got inch upon inch of rain in the past week, causing my poor swollen fruit to split, rot, and generally stink up the place.
i've picked what i can and just let the rest of the nasty black plants to whither and die where they stand, or lay, whatever the case may be.
but it was good while it lasted! hands down favorite are cherokee purple. they dont yield the most but for flavor they cannot be beat.
old german and brandywine yield the most bang for your buck. romas have a great harvest for sauce. i planted a different kind of roma this year, not quite as oval shaped - more square. they were very productive plants.
orange oxheart were very tasty but didnt last very long. oh, and green zebras are way too mushy. i will not be planting those again.
