Heatwave has officially begun! And the humidity just continues to rise and rise.
Stay cool everyone!

What beautiful weather for Chicagoland. Sunny, 74 degrees with a high of 84 expected. Just perfection.
However, businesses suffered up by the Chain of Lakes yesterday due to no wake boating conditions and still being in flood. This is a major economic hit to our area which relies on the vacation boaters.
The Fox Lake water level was 5.46 yesterday and receding at about .1 a day (maybe more with all our sunshine yesterday and today?) To open it needs to be 5.0. Hoping it will open this weekend.
I noticed people swimming! Not a good idea with flooding going on, DUH! I don't know what people are thinking letting their kids go into active flood waters. Who knows what septic backed up or ? to be blunt.
On a good note, it was probably the SAFEST fourth of July on the Chain for no boating accidents in years :) I LOVED IT! Slow, no crazy people...not too crowded! Awesome!

************************************************* **

Have a relaxing, safe and Happy Fourth of July!

Hello, warmed up nicely here but boy we've have some cold nights!

Thanks for stopping in Mass, and sorry I haven't been around. Hubby finished the other gate Saturday and we did take advantage of the cold weather to do chores around the house instead of boating.

Of course, it warmed up and got sunny about 6 pm last night and we were finally able to go for a boat ride without freezing to death. That's always how it goes, isn't it--warms up at 6pm on sunday night just in time to return to work, lol.

Hi Ylee, amazing how you are not really that much farther south and seem to have such different weather. I did get my lettuce planted, and spinach. Pumpkins here are really going crazy! I hope I get a few. Sometimes they flower but don't give me any pumpkins. I need to research that better.

I will have a new post soon about a horrible find in my garden this weekend affecting my roses. But I am going to devote a whole post to it and maybe even start a new blog.

Have a great day all. BBL

Good Afternoon, Jus!

Glad your hubby found the time and weather to complete a few needed projects around the home. Sorry he ended up with such a painful "chisled" thumb boo-boo, but I'm sure your loving compassion, first aid skills (that included a large popsicle and Flintstone's bandage - LOL!) considerably eased his pain. Nevertheless, he's certainly quite the excellent handy craftsman!

Even at my ole age, I can still remember the "Flintstones" cartoon era! Perhaps, one could now nickname your hubby, "Bam Bam" considering all his recently completed carpentry work. LOL! Presently, mine is being called "Whipper Snapper", now that all the our downpours have stopped and remaining cooler, drier, overcast weather is allowing him to resume some of his unfinished lawncare duties.

I see your current weather looks rather chilly and stormy as well. Hope your Friday and weekend aren't a complete bust and the weekend forecast allows you and the hubby to spend some enjoyably free time together now that all the "yewts" are seemingly away over the weekend! Have a great one!

Slow? Eh, it happens, I guess! Rain's keeping everybody indoors? I know I'd rather househunt in the sunshine!

I'll have to go check if the pumpkins have come up yet; we don't plant anything for fall, as no one eats anything like spinach, or anything like that! Too hot here to plant lettuce right now!

Have a good weekend!

Rain :)

Cold 62 degrees here. Going to go ahead and plant a second crop of spinich and lettuce with this cool weather we have in the forecast.
Garden pics soon. Maybe a new blog.

Kids are camping in WI, that's gotta be miserable about now. Glad they are close to some indoor activities up there too.

Slow work day. This isn't good though. Happy Friday to all who stop in. Have a good weekend!

Looks Boomer proof, true test will be when Meatloaf comes home from Dau's house. He's been keeping dau company while her boyfriend was at Army Officer Training in TX for a month.

It works really well!

Hahaa NEw, right!
It's okay, his thumb will heal. He chizzled out for the hinge (which may have been overkill, but...eh? going just a tad too far) and the chizzle slipped. Ouch!!!
Glad I was home to play nurse ;)
I may get him a popsicle and a flintstone band-aide. Does anyone even know what the flintstones are anymore? LOL

Off to check this tornado warning in Colorado, hmmmm.

Meatloaf proof???
That sounds like a challenge he just may have to
attempt.

Wow, I really truly just thought it would be a simple gate, but my husband has outdone himself.
Of course one thing leads to another and the deck has some warped boards he noticed, lol...onto another project so he can finish this one ;)

Hi Mass! Sorry haven't been able to post. Work is crazy and my brain is toast at the end of the day as you probably can tell, lol.

But, we too will have cooler than normal temps and downright chilly weather this weekend. I just hope the cool front brings us some rain. It's been hitting in just a few towns all summer and some are starting to ban outdoor watering even. Since we've lived here, we've never had a ban on outdoor watering, even in the drought of last year.

Hope you have enjoyed your cool days and wonderful sleeping nights, Mass! Take care and I'll check in soon (although like I've said in the past, everytime I go over to check on you, I get lost in your header maps and off on a hunt for further information about an emerging front or something, lol!)

Yewts from OKC went to Devils Lake with a big group for camping so it is just hubby and I for a while until they return. Boomer has learned to move the lattice which was placed at either end of the deck as a temporary gate. Meatloaf knew how to move it instantly and it never stopped him, but Labs are like that: they'll go over or through anything, lol.
The American Bulldogs are a little skitish of things which fall or surprise them so they don't like to knock things over.
He has, however finally figured it out and hubby is making two permanent hinged gates. I'm sure eventually these will come in handy for a little toddler grandchild as well ;)

Off for the rest of the day. May go to the boat races tonight at Blarneys. Have a great Thurs. all.

Hi Jus!

I second Sandi's post regarding your great tribute to Diana. I'm not a serious anglophile by nature, but yesterday I did tear up a bit when Wills and Kate emerged with their little 8 lb 6 oz Prince of Cambridge. I guess it was due to the media showing a comparative photo of Charles and Diana with then baby William at the same time. It made me think of how quickly three decades have flown by and all the tragedies that have happened in-between. In any case, Diana certainly set a terrific down-to-earth precedent for her royal boys, each of their wives, and the entire monarchy to follow. Looks like this new-age monarchy is off to a great start!

Presently, we're welcoming a wonderful change to our weather. It's such a relief after all those many weeks of oppressive heatwaves. It felt a little hot and steamy around noon, today, but our temps and dewpoints are now gradually falling to where we can comfortably rely on just interior fans instead of an accompanying A/C. YEAH! I think we can all agree that it's time for "A Cool Change", especially, to those high monthly electric bills and remaining summer (dazes) ahead! Whew!

OUR TEMPS AND DEWPOINTS HAVE FINALLY BECOME DOWNRIGHT BEARABLE! Pun intended! LOL!!

Hi Sandi! Yes, she is a wonderful woman. One could see they will be hands on parents and enjoy it, I think.

May be able to head over to the lake to see the waves later today. Not sure if the show will still be going at 4pm, but I have a break in appointments then, so I hope so.

I see we have Dorian. I think I'll call it Dory though, just so it will play nice and swim out to sea with the fish :)

Hi Jus, waving as I run through your blog - great tribute to Diana:)
Watching Kate facing the press at the door of the maternity wing, just as Diana had done 31 years earlier, just showed me how much confidence Kate has. No sheepish smiles, she was out there answering questions. She is a very strong character, a modern mother, and will bring this babe up the way she wants, and not the way "it is done" !!

Congratulations Kate and William! I soooo miss Diana, but us women of her age will embrace this child with her love. I guess I'm saying, I am so happy for you and will also think of your mother often...Candles lit in happiness for all. I can't put it into words...sorry.

OMGosh Wab! I just saw a photo from the Lake on WGN facebook page. This is really unusual for July to have NNE winds hauling down. Yikes.
I may be able to catch some pics tomorrow if I go a tad more East to the Lake.

I have had yewts here. Tonight was the yewts from Oklahoma and hubby's son and girlfriend. Both the girls are teachers, and fast friends! We are planning the wedding of dau #3 (the teacher in OKC) and we had so much fun tonight with that.
The yewts went to their grandparents for dinner tonight which was just so nice. I love they go all together for dinner to see their grandmother and grandfather and spent quite a lot of time there.
We didn't think they'd come over here and were surprised after work they were coming.
Then they came over here after and we talked wedding plans. They are looking at June 28. But, there are many venues already booked for next year. They are looking somewhere (of course) by the water! We will find it! And, actually, I have a place in mind already which I know someone...it may be a tad expensive, however in the long run has much of everything included and ends up being about right.

Aaaccckkkk stop me now! We have 2 more girls to go and our sons! and everyone seems so happy and all are getting along well! So this family looks to be a blast for a while! Woot wooot! ;) I'm counting the blessings.

Even Molly Approves! Welcome to the Family! hee hee!

Hi, thanks Ylee and NEw. we were fine because they did fizzle. Same here NEw on the grass. It is just in my area of the county without rain though. Rain seems to go all around us. The poor church ladies are praying away because their community garden is missing the rain. I feel bad because they have to carry buckets to water. They give the veggies away every Sat. so its a good cause, you'd think Mother Nature could spare a drop here, lol.

Funny Belle thinks she should have the whole place to herself again, lol! Good luck with that :)

Off to the grind (maybe? it's looking like I may work at home today and get caught up on computer stuff)

Morning,Jus,looks like those storms faded before they hit you.
We've got some rain around our area, needed very badly.
After our 7 day heatwave last week, our lawns are baked, fried, broiled and welldone. If it was a hamburger we would throw it out. It'll come back in the late summer once the cool nights start showing up,I should put a sign out on my lawn, danger, this "grass" could be harmful to barefeet.
Anyway, slowly coming out of vacation mode, yesterday first day back was a loooooong day.Belle who had the run of our vacation home couches and all, thinks she is still on vacation, trying to jump up on our leather couches which is a no no,so the battle is on.

Looking a little more like it is fading I think...We have a T-storm warning until 11:30 in McHenry County (just one of the counties in the warning, see below) Our western part of the county will have it still pretty good. But, it is less strong than I saw in Wisconsin.
Yawn...I have to go to bed...night all ships stay safe.

Well, I sort o thought so...Current MCD discussion for us.
And, while I'm at it -- I'm not liking the bowing and coming together nature of this huge segment from Wisconsin through Western IL and IA. It's organizing quite quickly and if it continues, could be quite a fast moving, rather large, bowing segment...uhm maybe derecho??? I know...I know...I am prone to over using the term...but maybe??? Maybe I overuse it because I got creamed by one wicked one not long ago!

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 434...

SUMMARY...THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE OVER THE
NEXT FEW HOURS ALONG THE WI/IL BORDER. LOCALLY DAMAGING WINDS AND
MARGINALLY SEVERE HAIL ARE THE PRIMARY THREATS.

DISCUSSION...A SLOWLY EXPANDING PRECIP SHIELD SHOULD ENCOURAGE A
COLD POOL THAT WILL DRIVE CONVECTION EWD ALONG THE WI/IL BORDER INTO
THE LATE EVENING HOURS. WHILE OVERALL INTENSITY MAY SUBSIDE A
BIT...RESULTING IN MORE MARGINAL HAIL...LOCALLY DAMAGING WINDS MAY
ACCOMPANY N-S LINE SEGMENT AS IT PROGRESSES INTO NWRN IL AT ROUGHLY
35KT. THIS ACTIVITY MAY EVENTUALLY APPROACH THE WRN CHI METRO BUT
SEVERE THREAT IS EXPECTED TO BE CONSIDERABLY LESS BY THAT TIME.

Hi Jus, your conversation is not redundant.... We still have a heat wave and the forecast is for even more records broken. Tuesday is set to be 35c which is 95f, and Wednesday even hotter. It isn't hot by some standards, but we are not set up for such a a lengthy heat wave, we don't have A/C :-(

Have a very good weekend:-)

Wab, it is all going south of us so far. I was still working (believe that or not) but there were two severe thunderstorms issues for Cook and Dupage Counties so far and set to expire in a few minutes. I can see lightening teasing us to the south.
I'm sure you feel the same way :( Really would like the rain.

Yewts are on their way back to Colorado. Hope they don't hit nasty weather and they have safe travels.
Dau #3 has arrived from Oklahoma City :) They will be in the area for a week or so and we will be looking at wedding venues, too.

Looks like storms are ready to pop. Let's hope it is soon and blows this heat dome to smithereens!

Hi Jus, don't think he does anything special with any of his plants think he just has "the knack", have caught him talking to them a couple of times though, he says its the only way he can get a word in living with me!!!! We do have to do most of our growing during the winter months as nothing much grows during our summer unless you want to pick cooked veg from the garden!!!

Jus .. my pup the same way as your dogs .. she didn't even want to go outside just a bit ago .. she's just lying around ..

Think the heat is worse when you have to keep going in and out .. seems to take more out of you ..

Stay safe in this heat .. hoping for a little cool down this weekend and hopefully a few rain showers too !

Hiya, just happened to check in. It's future dau in law's Hyndai Tuscon under warranty, so they have to wait for the part til tomorrow. But thanks ylee!

Sooooo hot! I am in and out of the office and only have to show one more house today later and thank goodness it has A/C working!

Hi Wab, yes the house was vaulted ceilings. I can't bear to think of tarring a roof in this heat!
Even the dogs and cat are just listless here, too.

Tried to weed the garden and the only things moving are the mosquitos!

Hi BC! The cherry pie flew so fast there weren't enough pieces! But the blueberry pie only was half eaten so I froze the other half for another time :)

Sandi, I see you are also having a heat wave out there, too! Soooo excited about William and Kate's baby. I just wish Princess Diana were here to see her first grandchild, but such is the circle of life...what can we do? We celebrate it for her :)
(I hope this conversation isn't redundant, I have not been around much on the blogs) Stay well!

Hi Mass, loved your story of the bags of sweet peas in Maine! Hope your weather isn't as bad as ours. Will check in w/you soon :)

Hi Oz! Probably won't head to the show this weekend although it was an indoor show. Just too much goings on and actually Boomer and I have done no work on his commands for a whole 10 days (?) I think...I have only walked them for their regular walks sparingly in this heat, as well. You'll have to let me know what your hubby does with the kholrabi? My kale isn't all the way in yet. Is your trip soon?? Stay well!

Sorry, if I missed anyone. Back to the races!

It's the Jeep, right? They should be able to get a good LCA at a junkyard, if the balljoints and bushings are still good! Do it yourself for cheap, IMO! Having a shop put a new one in is $$$$! :(

Good luck!

Okay they are now trying to scrape together funds to fix the car (lower control arm? Probably from son taking it to hiking spots in the mountains in colorado??) Um yeah. Anyhow...they are dead in the water in the flatlands til they get that fixed. Tbc..

Excessive heat warnings as if I need to say... It is really hot and muggy. I went in a house and it was vacant and closed up. Vaulted catwalk over the living room. Prob 114 on the second story! No lie! Wow. Mosquitoes are horrid, too.

Wish I had someone (like a four year old) to just appreciate lightening bugs though :). It's quite a show tonight dancing in the moonlight.
All in due time!
Be back down to earth when the Yewts land, lol. Night all visitors, big hugs and lightening bugs!

If you look at the regional radar, you can see where the big high pressure system is located, presently over Indiana, it seems!

I go to Sandi's blog, and Van Halen pops into my head, and yours brings thoughts of the Lovin' Spoonful, lol!

I see you are "hot and humid" too!
I have to admit to indulging in ice-cream, too.. it does cool you down!!! lol
I am not one of these folk who can drink cold drinks, but even I have taken to drinking an elderberry cordial, watered down to almost nothing, but then I can drink it!

Take it easy, and have a good week - if you can:)
