Keep warm!
I just had a whirlwind weekend of entertaining and frolicing about, lol. Plus, doing some learning on the sewing. We are still trying to accomplish making a tunic top. Even the easy pattern is hard for me :(
Plus!!! Boomer went to his first group class Saturday morning. Friday, he had an evaluation (finally) by a 24 year accomplished American Bulldog breeder, trainer, and judge. She is so excited to have me on board to try to finish him. She thinks he can finish (which means win his points in conformation shows to get credentials and accentuate his good points)
Hubby went with to the class and Boomer did wonderful around all the other dogs (first time!)
Sooooo that's about all that is goings on. Oh...son got a good job out in Colorado. His first one didn't work out, but he has another one which is really good :)
He asked me to make them a quilt. They decorated sort of Indian at their new apartment. So, I'm going to take old jeans and read a bit about Colorado tribes to grab their styles, textures, shapes, and colors and use those for the quilt. This could be a new blog soon. Tribes of Colorado and their art.
Sorry for all those who had horrible damage down south and for any fighting their hardships still from the snowstorms.
I'll post the weather watch and change my headline shortly. Tanks yous guys Take care!
... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM CST /5 PM EST/ this
afternoon...
* timing... west-southwest winds will continue through this
afternoon.
* Winds... 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 to 50 mph.
* Impacts... winds this strong can cause minor property damage
and make travel hazardous... especially for high profile
vehicles.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph... or
gusts between 45 and 57 mph... are likely. Winds this strong can
cause minor property damage unless precautions are taken. Driving
may be difficult... especially in high profile vehicles. Motorists
should be alert and use caution.
This was notable in the discussion, but the rest of this week looks to be non-eventful(?) hmmm
Next week, that could change apparently:
Area forecast discussion

...Ridging does
look to try and build in early next week bringing moderating temperatures
but it will be forced by another trough building into The Rockies so
another milder and active weather period may set up.
Well done with Boomer!!! Hope it all continues to go well. Last show we went to we got beaten by the furry grandkids but thats good as you hope improve with every new batch of pups! I have human grandson (nearly 12 months old) for a few hours today, Mum has decided as she needs to go back to work for a few hours a week he needs to get used to being away from her so he should arrive in the next hour or so. I had him last week while Mum had an interview and then the whole family was here on Saturday, and my gradaughter who used to come here every Thursday was most put out apparently when she found out!Anyway better get on with cleaning as Jax is a demon for finding dog hair!!
Hmmm. So the Windy City's windy. Hokay...Dokay...
Good news from Colorado. Whoa, That quilt will be beautiful. You know you can get really good denim for patchwork quilts at thrift stores - jeans and jean dresses and skirts. Other fabrics, too, for that matter. Maybe even old shirts or dresses of son and gf. You almost got me in the mood to sew. And I am very proud of Boomer.
:)
Glad to see you were tucked up warmly and out of the snow!!
Hi all,
Here's the list:
Run Boomer (We have to work out to get buff in time for the big show) and Molly, and Meatloaf, too
Office
Showings
Office
Dinner ready
Westminster!!!!!
Finish Tunic (I'm at the sleeves :{ It is black w/white polka dots and knit material. Nothing like taking on another challenge for a first...
Did you all catch the first part of Westminster last night?
So far it is the American Foxhound, the Bichon, The Afinpincher, and the Old English Sheepdog
What a group!
BF - Thank you on Son's job. I am excited about that. I can't wait to begin the quilt. They don't need a large one. They have a king size bed they picked up at a discount shop there, but I said I'm too new to make anything that large. The twin was big enough. So I can just do a large one in a square shape for a couch or for the center. Or maybe I'll get some Indian inspiration like a blanket rectangle or ? Can't wait to start that.
Thanks on Boomer, too (here he is studying for his show, below lol and of course, I have to post Mardi Gras Molly)
Sandi, I hope you do break it out, then skype me and teach me sleeves, lol!!! Is that nasty Nemo headed for you now? I so need to catch up.
Oz - Sounds like you are a proud doggy grandma and best of all you get to have the little human one again! Don't quite know what I'd do here if a grandchild was crawling on the floors. It's a zoo! I need a huge, beautiful kennel built off the garage :) dream on! The grands sound just so adorable, count the moments!
NEw, I saw a comment? Maybe...lol on you suffering while I partied all weekend. I know that will come back to haunt me. Everyone walking into work was walking a tad crooked Monday, it cracked me up. That snow here was deadly!
Ok off to accomplish something. Weather??? What Weather?? LOL I'll get to that later--
With all the challenging weather going on around here, I forgot that it's Mardi Gras time in N'Orleans! Love that hysterically funny pic of Molly in her "Laisez Les Bons Temps Rouillez" (Let the Good Times Roll) finery and mode! I bet she'd also rate highly with the Westminster Kennel's Club's current showing! LOL! In any case, your post is just the pick me up many of us need right now.
Glad to learn that you've escaped harm and damage from recent wintry weather woes, yourself, and hope we all can get through the remainder relatively intact. Currently, our temps have climbed to 41F degrees which is a reasonable level for all this snow to gradually melt. Presently, wavering weather models are beginning to go in our favor, as another potentially nasty snowstorm could have effected us this weekend as well. Fingers crossed!
We'll be interested to see what you and Molly have in store for us this Valentines Day, which is only two days away. Right now, I could use the perfect heartfelt gift of a nice long winter's nap! LOL! How about you??
I do hope those models are only joking about your valentines day potential 'present'. Maybe I'm lucky I haven't looked, and it all those second storm indications went away.
The models did that after Sandy, too and that week-out storm never truly materialized. I do hope you stay warm and dry for a while!
BF and everyone- You won't believe what the name of one of the oldest Native American Tribes in Colorado is??? Da Ute!!!
Now go figure! They have been in Colorado since 1500 AD. Wow. I shall now endeavor to use Ute artisan styles for the 'yewts' quilt! The spirits are dancing!
;)
The Affenpinscher -- Banana Joe (Joey)!
He was awfully cute! It was a real showdown with some very beautiful canine creations there. The Old English Sheepdog was--well--fluffy huge! Adam, the black and white faced Smooth Fox Terrier seemed to have taken the terriers by surprise and showed consistently. The Bichon we thought could go all the way, too! Oakley, the German Wired Haired Pointer, was just perfection in his stance and prance...The Portugese Water Dog? Well, very nice, however seeing as how the President has one, I sort of felt they were pushing it a little over all the others in group. Did I forget someone?
Well any way this lil toy took them all! Go figure. I laugh every year! Good show!
Boomer Liked the Golden. Not even the Golden got in, much less the Country's favorite, The Lab...but it was really a good show. Very exciting.
Molly is exhausted from all the Mardi Gras fun and this dog show thing her people get all worked up about!
She says Night all Ships!!
Ah, Sleeves!
There is only one tip I can give you. Tack them in firmly, try it on and see if it hangs correctly, with more fullness on the back of the sleeve than the front, and a "head" (that means movement at the top with no pulling on the shoulder seam), before you ever put it near to the machine.
Unpicking tacking is easy in comparison to taking out a sleeve that has "gone wrong" on the machine!
Here's the last alert, however the sun is out and beautifully warming things up. We'll get up to 43 today.
Lingering light fog and frost on roadways and other paved surfaces
will persist through the mid morning hours. This may result in
slippery conditions... especially on elevated surfaces such as
bridges... ramps... and overpasses. Use extra caution if traveling
this morning. Visibility should remain greater than 2 miles and
begin to rapidly improve over the next hour.
Sandi - Thank you for the good advice. I am going to try to follow that exactly. I think I have been describing my item wrong, too. It's more like a cardigan tunic and the material is a comfortable stretch knit cotton. If I can make this properly, I would like to make a few other colors. This item is from a pattern if you'd like to see. It is New Look Pattern 0152 (A).
New Blog soon! Have a great day.
I really like the gored skirt :)
Mind you, working with a knitted fabric is not easy for the first attempt! Did you fit a "ball" needle?
Check out this link re stitches and needles for knitted fabric.
Anyway, our weather so far has been perfect for cleaning up the streets, something my town doesn't seem to want to take advantage of.
But not big storms insight until the middle of next week.We have to be careful early in the morning as all the melting freezes during the night.
There are some companies who were the lowest bidder, and unfortunately, they get what they pay for. There is a huge cost for going over and beyond what they contracted for... Maybe??? Not sure if this is what is going on...
Love the Bichon, but make sure the parents aren't too nervous or jumpy. My sister in law breeds absolutely amazing Goldens. I can attest they have a very nice temperament and are a bit small and more sleek (as they use them more for field than show) Her partner is in NJ if you would like one :)
Sandi - I did change to the ball needle. I also went out and bought a twin, but did not need to use it yet. Also, I practiced a bit with the fabric and marked in my manual which stitch and settings work best with this particular fabric. Glad you like the pattern. I am working at home until next Monday. I have a huge mailing project, including gathering data, but will sew when I need a break from it. If it looks ok, maybe I'll post a pic.
I mean by that, when you tack (baste) the sleeve into the arm hole, position the two pieces so the sleeve is the top layer, slightly rolled over your hand to make the sleeve 'give' and be the larger (more eased) of the two fabrics. Hard to explain, easy to show... I'll get the next plane!
Check these two links.....

Ok don't laugh it's too big for me in many ways, but it is comfortable (P.S. I believe I made a smoking jacket, w/scarf, lol!!!):
Add: Sandi, link 1, cute shoulder darts--show off, lol! That was very good! Thank you for the vids :)
I'll buy into that. I think I saw that in another run and it had my eyebrow up...
Again, after Sandi, the models overplayed a lot. And, I think they are doing the 'finding Nemo' thing, too lol So, we'll see. I don't think there are any 'models' for these years. No way to input all the bizarre data.
Meatloaf has a huge tuft of lab fur on his hind quarter feathers...it'll be 70 next week :)
LOL Thank you and Happy Valentines Day to you and your crew as well!
I thought of you watching the corgi's last 2 nights at Westminster! I truly thought the pembroke was going all the way!
So, looking back at 50...The kids are moving to the mountains (except the practical ones, who are freaking courageous going to jaz and climbing the corp. rope in a jungle) Well I'm wondering whether to decorate.
I am looking around at home and wanting to change it. But, when I think to throw that little ceramic chicken away? Really? Awe...no I can't throw out the ceramic chicken by my sink? Wait, they are Hens. And a rooster-red- I can't throw that out. Tthat's home. We have been blessed and I can't quite choose what stays in our new life --without kids-- or what goes. And, life is on the edge: do I decorate or do I wait and do the practical because I know we have Five Children...and I do believe this family is going to get BIGGER!!! aaaaaccckkk. All I can hope for is to be able to embrace them all in all our rooms which were thrown together as the world churned forward with the stuff we had. Or? Should I take the wicker mirror down and throw away my wicker spiral rocking chair (I nursed babies in...?)
I look at our 'stuff' and it becomes treasure.
a href="" target="_blank">Link
If that is how you coped with your first project, you will be teaching others before long!
Happy Thursday :)
We went through the same decisions, and alot of things that have been in the house through all the kids growing up and not wanting to throw away, but when we did over the rooms,we made alot of decisions to get rid of things that just didn't fit into our remodeling plans, but since your last yewts just moved out,it may be too soon, to start making big changes, and better to keep some of the sentimental things.
Humans do like to hang onto their past.Of course if you hang onto too much past,it quickly becomes clutter.
We Americans love clutter, although we won't call it clutter.
As NEw mentioned earlier, it might be wise to go hold onto more sentimental reminders of your "yewts" awhile longer. You may find some of their nostalgic treasures could be passed along to those who decide to have offspring in the future. Plus, just because your children have grown and left the nest doesn't mean that they won't return for holidays or other occasions. They may want a few nostalgic reminders of their childhood left behind. In either case, these days, it can be a quandry to know what's actually sentimental to young adults and what's junk needing to be thrown out. Perhaps you could build a large attached storage area? LOL!
May you and hubby be able to celebrate at least part of this Valentines Day by enjoying a nice romantic dinner or just peaceably relaxing.
Lunch fly by! Hope you have wonderful plans to spend Valentines day with your honeys. Or, indulge in something sweet or a nice bottle of wine.
We have postponed our valentine's day until Saturday for a sweetheart dinner and big band concert. It should be fun.
Sandi, thanks for the assistance on the top. I have more jersey material and want to try another pattern so hopefully I will get these sleeves a little better this next go around. This new fabric has no pattern and is a turquoise blue (for a summer/spring top) probably won't be as forgiving in mistakes as the first. You notice I tried no buttons, or zips, conveniently avoiding them...lol. It will be a long while before I teach! haha.
Sandi, I'm wondering if Home Economics is required (or was) in the UK? It was an elective here when I was in High School. Many, many kids took it, but I didn't due to my schedule with band & choir. Some of my own kids took it and learned to sew and cook, and some did not. Just a thought--
Mass - Thanks for the sweet valentine wish. You and NEw may be right about keeping some things around for a little while. We did rent a storage locker before the yewts left for Colorado. There is a bit of space in it for extra items, along with their apartment stuff. I guess I will move items over there. How much is hoarding and how much is thrify? That is the ultimate question. I do believe being a single mother of 3 for 11 years, I evolved to be the way I am now. Plus, I was influenced by parents and Grandparents from the depression era, with those habits. I became too obsessed over not throwing something away because we may 'need' it later and I stretch a buck. I once had every curtain rod I ever owned from every house and literally moved them several times with me 'just in case'. LOL
My husband wants to have a garage sale. I think he's right. It's time for some of the stuff to go.
NEw, it must be so relieving to know everything in your home is done. And I know it was a long road for you, too. No doubt Americans like their clutter. You should see some of the homes I go into with work. But again, I wonder how much is hoarding, and how much is insecurity with keeping things 'just in case'. One thing is for sure, organization of items is key. There is nothing I hate more then buying something only to find out I already had the same item at home and forgot about it, lol.
Shore - re-visiting your post. Looks like it may be true. I see a storm for next Thursday shaping up. Thanks for the heads up :)
Happy Valentines Day all!
Back to the grind. (Dark stormy skies to the East--Lake effect snow? Possibly? I will have to look at our discussion again.)

Video shortly!
Boy,aint that the truth,been there,done that
Jus - When I went to Secondary School, what you call high school I think, Home Ec was compulsory for all girls until aged 14, whilst the boys did woodwork...very sexist ...then we choose to study it for examination level against other subjects. I studied Home Ec, needlework and also design embroidery, which I had to study after school as it clashed with art, which I also took! I did also study maths, English, history and physics as well, so not all creative subjects! (The O level exams were taken at 16, then we could stay on to do A levels at 18 before going to college/ Uni at 18 until 21 if we wished.)
After A levels I went on to college to train as an ART teacher. I had been teaching art for ten years before I changed to teaching domestic science and textiles - the new names for Home Ec and needlework!
In the early 80's domestic science became compulsory at grades 3-6 but it was up to individual head teachers whether they taught it at grades 7-11. Luckily the schools I taught in chose to keep it in the curriculum, so my I spent my final 15 years of teaching in a boys school, where I taught them all needlework and food studies under the umbrella heading of Design Technology.
Then in 2008 the Government introduced a change in education that introduced "Licence to Cook" meaning all high schools now have to teach food, nutrition and shopping skills to all pupils up to the age of 14 as it was when I went to school!
PS. - bet you wish you hadn't asked! Lol
Then we went to Jo-Ann fabric and I showed my husband the fabrics for the boat cushions, etc... and I made it out of there without spending a dime. haha a first!!!
Then off to the library where I have checked out 9 books on making window treatments! Hahaha! Hubby checked out a fishing book and is happily entertained. We still intend to do the Sweetheart Dance with Big Band even though we had a rather romantic night at the library, lol!
The jacket came out nice for your first garment. Easing sleeves will become easy. Zippers always require complete focus. Even then, easy to goof up. lol
Robin Red Breasts... then it's already spring and we better keep an eye out for Wed-Thurs next week. I finally got the email on the severe conference - lol. If I go it'll be a last minute deal. As usual. Haven't even read the whole email yet.
Been checking out the burger joints, swap meets and antique shops along our potential chase routes.
;)
Thanks for the cute Molly Valentine.
Statement as of 1:04 AM CST on February 15, 2013

Wisconsin through the overnight hours. The leading edge of the
snow showers... along a Milwaukee to Lake Geneva line... will reach
Kenosha by 2 am. The steadier snow will last about 1 1/2 to 2
hours at any one location and reduce visibilities to around 1 mile

Our garage sales are usually held "en-mass" at car boot sales. In the States I suppose you would call them 'car trunk sales' :)
Our little robins, half the size of yours, are territorial birds, usually in pairs at the best, with the occasional 'pair and spare' ie three, but you will never see any more than three at once.
Have a lovely weekend, enjoy your Saturday night Valentine dinner:)
I'm sorry I am closing my blog and I'm sick and tired of this juvenile crap.
To the trolls who seem to even circumvent their ban under new handles and several personas on a Moderators blog!!! (Uhm yeah an admin blog!)
Yeah, Troll, you can't see my blog because you are NOT who you say you are. You are NOT from where you say you are. You (and maybe a partner or two) are circumventing perma bans under several personas. And I BANNED YOU because I do not buy your BS.
You interfere with my quiet enjoyment of the WU everyday. Every single day. The incessant posts one after the other after the other on the Main every time Dr. Master's puts up a new blog. You use different handles, but everyday, you do the same thing. You are ridiculous and obvious. You continue to dis-respect the site and get away with creating fake handles and lie to trusting people who are good here. The IP signature is the same. If me, stupid me from bumble...can figure out you post from the same freagin place for every assumed handle...why can't ???
Ban me for calling out someone who posted about my personal blog on the Main blog? Who was off topic??? And no one did anything about it??? Two years ago those posts would have been gone--snap--like that!!! There are bloggers in the main who are talking to their own fake handles!!! And these are the same bloggers who sent horrible wu mails to me, stalked me and I refuse to participate any more.
I have had it.
Hope you won't let these nefarious trolls get the better of you! We're all here to assist you by taking this serious matter up with the WU administration! If you don't want to resume your blog, we'll try and understand but please remain as a poster on ours! You'd be greatly missed! Hope this message goes through and you'll see it, despite WU Admins. notice of your new no comments blog!!
Free up your blocked WU mail, when able, for me to respond for I think I've cracked the case concerning your aforementioned troll(s) and others! I've put out feelers via WU mail for some really good reinforcements here to assist us! I've also emailed you via your regular email site.
