Nov. 4, 2012 - Prayers are really needed as the people out East will have another hit this week from a Nor'Easter. So many are still in desperate need of help.

Not much happening in our part of the country knock on wood. I wonder when we will have our first snow?

Any takers for a contest of our first date for over 2" at O'hare? (official Chicago recording site) Post what date you think it may be and we'll figure out what prize or fun we can have.

Have a great November everyone!

Hi Jus, loved the piccies of the dogs! One of our girls is in season but I think we will let this one pass, we would have puppies due and on the ground during our REALLY hot time and that is not fun. Pups don't like the excessive heat and neither do the Moms!
Hope your Thanksgiving went well, we had a great time, the girls made pumpkin pie and pecan pie, and I cooked the turkey in the kettle BBQ! It was a HOT day and Barb, Minnesotan born and bred, loved telling the family "back home" she was eating Thanksgiving dinner outside and in shorts!!!!They have now gone home and I do so miss my daughter but there is always another trip to enjoy.

One wet and soggy Brit reporting in. I have survived the night, and for the first time for many days, the sun is shining, although it will be a brief show, as the clouds are building it the west again!!

Three died overnight when a tree fell down on their car, and another died when his car was washed away by the swollen river.

Have a great Sunday - any more bulb planting?

Alls well Ylee. Busy busy but winding down the holiday. We did two thanksgivings and still have some relatives in from out of town.
Hope yours was wonderful.

And, to all who stopped in earlier in the week, I hope you all had a very nice Thanksgiving, as well! Thank you for all of your beautiful graphics.

And, now back to the weather. Colder here, but mild and pleasant. We finally planted about 75 new bulbs for Spring. It actually has been too warm to plant new bulbs, and some iris even started coming back up with last weeks sunshine! So, we waited until I felt Winter was really settling in. Can't wait for Spring now.

Need to check on our Florida friends down by Delray and Ft. Lauderdale, etc...AND our friends across the pond. They've got their hands full with flooding. Prayers up for the UK and hoping the damage in FL ends soon, wow!

Looks like there is absolutely no snow in our forecast atm. I'll take it! Out East may get a storm on Tues/Weds? Hope those affected by Sandy are a bit more prepared to handle it now.

Have a great rest of the day all!

Earthquake. Way too far away from me to be felt, but in the state nonetheless.

Hi Sandi, It will be fine. I will prepare everything just as usual for less people than last year. Last year was really big. We'll have half that. Even if some don't show until late, I know the boys will want left over bags for their turkey sandwiches :)

NEw, I was smart and watched The Dust Bowl. (Sort of similar names as the Bears did eat their dust - ouch!) Might be a good idea next time to use a quarterback who actually is registered in the NFL??? Just a tip.

My breathing problems have now manifested themselves as a chest cold. Wow. That's why I felt funny. (don't say like a clown?) And, no I don't smoke.

It is another beautiful day here in Chicagoland. Paybacks are gonna be a beech!

Off to the races.

Add: Oh Campbell wasn't the guy they brought up from last year who didn't play. Sorry. I guess the whole team played badly and not just Campbell, in all fairness. As I said, I didn't watch ;)

Oh, Jus, I would be tearing my hair out, too. I love to be well prepared and organised in advance of any family party. If I had things to do at the last minute I would buckle under the strain!

Hopefully you get some answers to your question...... and soon!!!

Hello Even after the air quality alert ended, I had issues today. Then I had to show a very bad mold house which just put this over the top. I should have run away right when I opened the door. Black mold in the back corner of a bedroom ceiling. UGH!

This is a new situation for me Ylee. I hope you don't have to breathe that air in your work environment without a mask! That's just common sense! (oh, duh...I guess we do what we have to do for work (see above, lol)
I'm still trying to figure out whether to go to the doctor for this breathing thing. It's really not that bad, even on bad days, but I DO notice a change. Hmmmm
Thanx again NEw and Ylee. NEw...I didn't know that.

Sandi, I was up a little late and researching a little. Between you and I, I am furious because I keep getting non-answers to who will be here for Thanksgiving. At this point I'm about ready to make reservations for my husband and I, and everyone else can go jump in the turkey coop!

Add: oops a tad hostile...Gawd help me to maintain a smile for the holidays no matter who may 'pop' in for dinner...I'll buy a 20 lb turkey and 'wing it' lololol! Hubby's family will be coming on the weekend from Michigan and we'll have another Turkey Day with them, as well.

jus, sometimes with out much wind and high pressure sitting on top of you, everything gets trapped at the surface,we get that around Boston sometimes on those cold calm mornings.Doesn't happen a lot,but with someone like you sensitive to poor quality air,you have to be careful.
So our Patriots had a big wind against the new rookie "luck",but he didn't do so well.Welcome to the NFL Andrew luck, little different playing the upper 5 as opposed to some of the lower standing teams.
Your team plays tonight.

Wow, when we were in Milwaukee, I had a very hard time with an onset of difficulty breathing. I had not been to the blogs to see this air quality alert (below).

It actually affected me here in McHenry County on the border of IL/WI today, too. Truly thought it was from burning leaves in the area. Shocked about this actually because it seems an odd time of the year for this(?) to me...

Air quality advisory issued for the counties of Fond Du
Lac... Sheboygan... Dodge... Washington... Ozaukee... Dane...
Jefferson... Waukesha... Milwaukee... rock... Walworth... Racine and
Kenosha

The Wisconsin department of natural resources has issued an air
quality advisory for particle pollution that affects people
living in the Wisconsin counties of Fond Du Lac ... Sheboygan ...
Dodge... Washington... Ozaukee... Dane... Jefferson... Waukesha ...
Milwaukee... rock... Walworth... Racine and Kenosha

This advisory will be in effect until 12:00 PM noon Monday.

For the advisory region - the air quality index is already
exceeding or expected to soon exceed the Orange level which is
considered to be unhealthy for people in sensitive groups
including children... elderly people... individuals with
respiratory and cardiac problems... or anyone engaged in strenuous
outdoor activities for a prolonged period of time.

For current information on air quality readings please call the
daily air hotline at 1-866-dailyair... 1-866-324-5924.

Pros- Thank you so much for the beautiful post! Your collage is amazing!

Well, it was an incredibly busy weekend with getting everything ready for Thanksgiving.

Watched Ken Burns, The Dust Bowl (twice--watching it again) and it was really good, but sad at some points and brought tears to my eyes. Tomorrow is the second half. Hope it's not too busy and I can catch that, too.

Son comes home from Colorado tomorrow. Looks like the weather will be good for his flight.

Forecast for Thanksgiving looks like we'll have no horse drawn sleighs carrying folk over the river and through the woods...lol
It is forecast to be 61 degrees!

First glimpse of snow looks like it may be a week from Wednesday (Nov. 28th) when the pattern shifts to cold like all the models are showing.

Well, yup. That's about all. Pretty quiet, sorry...
Hmmmm should post a picture or a song to liven this place up a tad...

Oh ok...here's one from last night my son's girlfriend took of the dogs. It's hysterical!

BF,now you've got me going.
Thats a whole subject I try to impart to guys who have just got married.
I give them this I printed off the web,and I tell them you better study this very carefully.

What Women Really Mean, When They Say

(1) Fine:
This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes:
If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3) Nothing:
This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in “Fine.”

4) Go Ahead:
This is a dare, not permission. Don’t Do It!

5) Loud Sigh:
This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That’s Okay:
This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That’s okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks:
A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you’re welcome. (I want to add in a clause here – This is true, unless she says ‘Thanks a lot’ – that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say ‘you’re welcome’ . that will bring on a ‘whatever’).

(8) Whatever:
Is a woman’s way of saying F–YOU!

(9) Don’t worry about it, I got it:
Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking ‘What’s wrong?’ For the woman’s response refer to # 3.

Hi jus,
Any good man knows "wait" means stay there until I call you - no matter how long it takes. lol Females may not see it the same way.

Heard this song on the car radio yesterday and thought of road music. I may be crazy...
You may be right.

Hi again NEw, isn't that awful? I need to read if they found out what prompted that attack. Just tragic and she gave so much to the community.

Ozgalah, Teenage boy is right! LOL. I do think I need hand signals because I use the wrong commands out of habit of just having them raised by me in the house. The real commands aren't the same as what I use, but close and all jumbled. 'Wait' means something completely different here. It means wait for me to exit the door before they bolt. Or 'wait' for me to go down the stairs first. Not quite.
Ohhh Howling boys... Of course you have to have something rather exciting happening all at once at the holidays! Ohh, I forgot to run a google search on Boomer's lineage. Thanks for reminding me.

Wings tonight! No cooking required :)

P.S.add: 60 degrees? Thanksgiving? Wow!!! I'll take it, but how strange is that for Chicago???

disturbing story from your city.

HICAGO -- A far west suburban firefighter and paramedic who was found dead in her home died as a result of an attack by one of her own dogs, the Kane County sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

Dawn Brown, 44, of the 400 block of Jefferson Street in Big Rock, was found dead by her husband at the bottom of the stairs in her home Monday afternoon. The paramedics who responded were her co-workers.

Hi Jus, persistance, persistance and you know the rest! Just do little bits at a time and it WILL come together, my old girl who is now in the house is deaf as a post (or rather seems to be) but still recognises the recall when I wave my arms in the air and she hasn't done any real training for years so its suprising how much does sink in, and think teenage boy when you get frustrated, it may help!!!!!
My guys have all howled about 4am for the last two days not good with visitors due on Monday, usually means one of the girls is coming into season....... oh joy.......puppies for Christmas, no puppies for Christmas uuuuum!

Wow, seems like I just get here for brief glimses of the blogs lately! Just time for click and run, or maybe reading a few posts here and there.

Hi NEw, just left you a post and it's good to see the storm trending more East! Whew...we'll keep our fingers crossed for seven days though.

Sandi, that is one very cool name for a cat! And it is very appropriate for Mr. Blue, too I think. My lil kitty was attacked again outside. We were working in the yard a lot on Sunday and she kept waiting by the door to zoom out. Then she did it again on Tuesday (my fault) and I had to go to work. I was gone 3 hours and she came in injured. I rushed her to the vet and she had another course of antibiotics for a cat bite. Rough neighborhood! So, now we will only go in and out the garage door and through the landing of the back screen porch, so if she is waiting, she can't get all the way out. :( She is doing much better after two days though.
Need to visit you to see what's up across the pond. Take care!

Ozgalah, 21 options! and ha haaaa the one which sticks is the one your hubby didn't want, lol. That IS fate for you. Redhedz is such a great name.
Oz I am terrible at training. I need lessons like 3 times a week. Poor Boomer is so confused. I am saying 'watch' me for our lesson this week, and he is laying down. He seemed to have the 'down' command learned very well last week, and now he doesn't really know what it means again and is doing it for everything except sit. UGH but he is still going through the puppy thing. He'll be 10 mos on the 22nd.

Hope your dau arrives safely! Have fun :)

Ylee, why Rawhide? lol? Maybe my brain is fried...it's been a long week. Are you traveling for Thanksgiving? Hope you will have a few days/nights off. I'll stop in to say hi soon. Hold down the fort til I get back.

Did anyone see Chicago Fire last night? One of the characters kept saying he wanted to move away from the city up to 'Chain O Lakes' LOLOL!!! (this is where I live, but it's not a town, it's an area, usually called The Chain) But, since it's a National Show it was too funny! It cracked me up each time he said it :) Our friend works on all the pyrotechnics for the show. It is going great and what a wonderful job they are doing making it realistic. They work very closely with consultants from the Fire Dept., too.
Ramble, ramble Back to work for me. Stay warm all. Actually, it's very calm mild weather here in Chiland today, and expected to be a mild and warmer weekend, too :)

Hi Jus, there are some really wierd names for pedigree dogs, Boomers good! When we applied for our kennel reigistration we had to nominate 21 options, I wanted Redhedz as the dogs are red but H, who has red hair hated it! Put in the nominations with Redhedz at number 20 and waited...... yep we are Redhedz WSS! Told H it was fate, and so many people have loved it ever since I think he is coming round to it, slowly, after 14 years!!!!!!!!

lol, that is a pic of two very relaxed dogs.I wanna come back as a dog.Just hangin out.
Models still over the place with what our nor'easter is going to do.Should have a pretty good idea by the weekend. In fact winds start to pick up on Sunday way before the storm moves north.Strong high pressure over the maritimes, low to the south, means strong winds.

late night confession: (yes bless me Wuba's, it's been at least __ mos since my last rant?)

Actually, this will be pretty interesting.
It seems Boomer's new official REGISTERED name is now Stella Blue's Boomer (see #2 for pic of da Boomer).

Ok. Alrighty then. So, my confession is: that when my goof ball (amazingly interesting ;) son named him, and picked his 'Kennel' name, I had no idea what my son was talking about and just went ahead with the name on the application.
KK. Well, I am happy to now say that Boomer's papers have come and he is officially an American Bulldog of the Greatful Dead.

What can ya say? Kewl. Now he just needs to work on his cult following.

(I am going to post this. It is THE first time I have ever even heard this song. I know. I'm sorry. I led a very sheltered life until I had kids, lol)

For Boomer--(Not one title on that three generation pedigree ;) OY we truly need to believe in this boy and go for it. There's always a first)
Night all ships. Keep that ghost storm away from the East Coast with all our might! Turn the fans!

Ha ha, you two oughta take this on the road, NEw and Ylee, lol!

Long day...they made it and it was a very smooth trip! Yay. Success. (19 hours? I think, but they went to Ft. Collins to see a friend first).

Anyhooo, NEw, I am seeing more chatter about that storm now. Still pretty far out there in time though. But no one can afford to take chances. If it doesn't happen, great! But if it does, uh oh...:(

Still cleaning and such. I'll check back before I hit the hay for any more evidence in the models.

Have a good night all!

A 12 hour drive to nowhere sounds a lot of fun, until my wife and I try to get out of the vehicle!

I...can't.....move!
Me....either! :)

Kids make it yet?

Dierks Bentley song should be directed to Gen. Petreus and all involved in the laughable scandal going on.

Anyway, miserable cold rainy day here, but should get better into the weekend, then we're back to another strong nor'easter for the holiday week, lets hope its over by Thanksgiving, another slow mover.

Awe, no problem Sandi :) LOL on Blue's amazing tricks.

WG and Bro were at N. Platte about an hour ago. Making good time. They did not hit the black ice which caused trouble here in Illinois last night. The Elgin Ohare expressway was even closed down for a little while, I heard.

Off to look at some decorating ideas, then go to work. Happy Tuesday all.

Quoting Ylee:
My cat is food trained, sort of; if I want her to come, I just turn on the can opener! :)

Lol - all I have to do is open the cupboard that holds his food. How he knows I have no idea. Surely all the cupboards in the kitchen sound the same ....but no, he only comes running when that cupboard is opened!!

Thanks for the good wishes and the 'luv' from Chicago!

Ok I have that logged Wab. That would be par for the course eh? And, thank you we see this ghost storm ravaging the East with 992 ? oh my...but we can't put our finger on it. And, any other sunday, it would be a non-issue that far out...

Thanks for stopping in Wab.
