Welcome Fall (well, the feel of Fall is already in the air) and welcome all the changes a new season brings.
Let's see where the winding road takes us in this blog. Thank you for stopping by to set a spell and take in life :)

Candles lit for all those in harms way, or who have perished by weather, volcanoes, earthquakes, political/religious unrest and illness or strife. May the changing of the seasons bring about a change of calm skies, peace and goodness to the world.

Hi Jus, well its spring but a little crazy at the moment! We went from 27 degrees last week to 15 degrees yesterday and back to 27 by the weekend apparently! Normally it might sprinkle with "snow" every couple of years but yesterday in the Hills it "really" snowed it doesnt last long but it makes great excitement for the kids who have never seen snow before.Mind you a couple of years ago there were 5 year old children who did not know what rain was so crazy weather! See you and my daughter might have interesting weather this weekend, take care.
I loved the "corncobs" buildings of Marina City but they reminded me of a wildflower seed here called a Banksia and have shown them to lots of friends who loved them especially the car parking bit!!!

Damaging wind event Sat. seems to be what are saying...

DAY 3 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0228 AM CDT THU OCT 11 2012

VALID 131200Z - 141200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS SAT INTO SAT NIGHT ACROSS PARTS
OF THE MID/UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY INTO THE UPPER GREAT
LAKES...SOUTHWARD INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS...

...SYNOPSIS...
MODELS INDICATE THAT SPLIT BELTS OF STRONGER WESTERLIES WILL BEGIN
TO CONSOLIDATE ACROSS NORTH AMERICA DURING THIS FORECAST PERIOD...AS
THE REMNANT SOUTHERN STREAM CLOSED LOW CONTINUES ITS EAST
NORTHEASTWARD ACCELERATION OUT OF THE SOUTHWEST. VARIABILITY IS
INCREASING AMONG THE MODEL DATA CONCERNING THE EVOLUTION OF THIS
FEATURE...FROM WHICH A COUPLE OF MORE DISTINCT SMALLER SCALE
IMPULSES COULD EMERGE AS IT PROGRESSES EAST OF THE ROCKIES INTO THE
PLAINS/MISSISSIPPI VALLEY REGION. NAM/SREF APPEAR TO MAINTAIN THE
INITIAL CIRCULATION FORECAST TO REACH THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS BY 12Z
SATURDAY AS THE PRIMARY UPPER IMPULSE...AND ACCELERATE IT EASTWARD
INTO THE UPPER GREAT LAKES BY 12Z SUNDAY...MUCH AS GENERALLY HAS
BEEN INDICATED BY MEDIUM RANGE GUIDANCE THE PAST FEW DAYS.
HOWEVER...THE GFS SUGGESTS THAT A DISTINCT SECONDARY
IMPULSE...TRAILING TO THE SOUTHWEST...MAY BECOME THE MORE PROMINENT
IMPULSE SATURDAY...AS IT LIFTS EAST OF THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES...ACROSS
THE SOUTH CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS INTO THE MIDDLE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY.
ECMWF ALSO NOW IS MORE SUGGESTIVE THAT STRONGER MID-LEVEL FORCING
MAY DEVELOP SOUTH OF THE INITIAL IMPULSE...BUT NORTH OF THAT OF THE
GFS.

REGARDLESS...ALL GUIDANCE INDICATES THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF A
SUB-1000 MB SURFACE LOW...GENERALLY EAST OF THE MIDDLE MISSOURI
VALLEY TOWARD THE GREAT LAKES REGION. WITHIN THE WARM SECTOR OF
THIS FEATURE...AND SOUTHWARD AHEAD OF THE TRAILING COLD FRONT/DRY
LINE ADVANCING EASTWARD THROUGH THE SOUTHERN PLAINS...A BROAD
SOUTHERLY 850 MB JET IS FORECAST TO STRENGTHEN FROM 50-70
KT...BENEATH A 70 KT SOUTHWESTERLY 500 MB JET. THIS WILL
CONTRIBUTE TO THE NORTHWARD ADVECTION OF SEASONABLY HIGH MOISTURE
CONTENT AIR /PRECIPITABLE WATER UP AROUND 1.5 INCHES/...WITH 60F
SURFACE DEW POINTS AS FAR NORTH AS PORTIONS OF THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI
VALLEY.

DESTABILIZATION SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT TO SUPPORT WIDESPREAD
CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT...INCLUDING PERHAPS CONSIDERABLE POTENTIAL
FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM PORTIONS OF THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI
VALLEY SOUTHWARD THROUGH THE SOUTHERN PLAINS.

...UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS...
GIVEN THE STRENGTH OF THE WARM SECTOR DEEP LAYER MEAN FLOW
FIELDS/SHEAR AND FORCING FOR UPWARD VERTICAL MOTION...SEVERE
POTENTIAL ON SATURDAY MAY ULTIMATELY BE HIGHER THAN CURRENTLY
INDICATED BY THE SLIGHT RISK CATEGORICAL OUTLOOK. CONDITIONS MOST
SUPPORTIVE OF THIS POTENTIAL STILL APPEAR MOST PROBABLE TO EVOLVE
FROM PARTS OF EASTERN NEBRASKA AND KANSAS THROUGH CENTRAL AND
NORTHERN MISSOURI...IOWA AND ADJACENT PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN
MINNESOTA...SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN AND NORTHWESTERN ILLINOIS.
HOWEVER...UNCERTAINTY LINGERS CONCERNING THE DEGREE OF WARM SECTOR
BOUNDARY LAYER DESTABILIZATION THAT MAY OCCUR...DUE TO THE
POSSIBILITY OF CONSIDERABLE EARLY PERIOD CONVECTION WHICH MAY SLOW
OR INHIBIT INSOLATION. COUPLED WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED MODEL
VARIABILITY...TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY STILL EXISTS FOR HIGHER SEVERE
PROBABILITIES. BUT A SIGNIFICANT CONVECTIVE DAMAGING WIND EVENT
APPEARS A POSSIBILITY. IT MAY NOT BE OUT OF THE QUESTION THAT
CONDITIONS COULD BECOME FAVORABLE FOR TORNADIC SUPERCELLS.

Dear OZ: Wait. Isn't it summer there? Why are you getting snow?

hmmm? Well I think I should look at your latitude. I'm shocked because you are supposed to be summer? Isn't that late for snow? Maybe just an interesting year.

Eh, I sort of had this happen. But my streets looked the same cause they were like in a 32,000 development of really nice houses.
So, Levitt developed some of the suburbs late after the row houses and the 50's.
We had mass retail, and mass housing. And, some of us made it cool.

So, anyway. We have some good looking burbs in Chicago where we have all grown up...if you have been here.

I was sad for a few things in 30 years roaming in and out. I think the concrete elevated bridges over Gilmer and 176 sometimes freak me out -- Where am I, lol

Ok, night all ships be safe at land or in port or moored :) Trains are going to bed. And, now for the weather:

Oh the debate:
Sort of did that today. I saw some parking lots and roads where they shouldn't have been. I'm ok with it. They did make it very pretty, and preserved some of the nicest stuff. Good job you people who work our public works and decide on behalf of us...Thank you for making so much pretty. Our National Parks.

Hi Jus, well after our first taste of spring here we are back in winter with possible SNOW for the Adelaide HIlls! South Australia does not get real snow but every now and again we get a sprinkle and apparently today it is possible! All I know is we've had good rains and its freezing!!!! Been out pulling up as many weeds as I could between showers but now have to knuckle down and get the chores done!

Severe potential in OK Fri/Sat may increase. Seemed that way this morning. Haven't looked since. We might have to do a "Storm Chasin' Mommas" special episode.

Ylee,I joke about it ,but I do get rather sad when I visit what use to be my neighborhood. Reminds me of the
Joni Mitchell song

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel *, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking

Actually, NEw's story struck me as sad. :( His story reminded me of my Great-Grandparents, who sold out their home in order to build an expansion to the hospital, which is now being replaced at a totally new location for the cost of $1/2 billion!

Brrrr.... it's cold up there!

Bwahahaha!!! Too funny NEw!

Had a good trip (Ylee :) It was very nice driving that way but sort of screwed me up on time and I was 10 minutes late. There's a lot more stop and go lights then there used to be, lol.
Turned out to be ok and the person I was meeting was running late as well :)

It really never warmed up very much. Chilly all day. Had a really nice lunch with my hubby who was running around without a coat on :0 Not sure if it even was 50 down by his work.

Ramble scramble to fix dinner. Will check on how the models are handling the end week storm a bit later. TTFN

Hey,Jus,I do the same thing and drive through my hometown when I get a chance,oh nostalgia(spelling?)
Anyway the only problem is where my street use to be,theres a mall now. I've figured it out,the house I grew up in is in the Loew's home and garden section.People look at me strange when I pull up a chair and sit with my feet up next to the tulip bulbs.
I just tell them I'm relaxing in my living room, and they slowly back away from me with a worried look on their face.Ah, they'll get over it.

Off to Des Plaines today and taking an old route past where I grew up :) Not the fastest way, but I know it well.
Partial Discussion of Sat/Sun weather coming in....

"...FOCUS THEN SHIFTS TO THE UPPER LOW CURRENTLY OFF THE COAST OF
CALIFORNIAN...WHICH GUIDANCE HAS BEEN PERSISTENTLY BRINGING EAST
INTO THE MIDWEST FOR THE WEEKEND. GUIDANCE REMAINS IN REASONABLY
GOOD AGREEMENT IN TAKING THIS DEEP SYSTEM FROM THE CENTRAL ROCKIES
FRIDAY NIGHT...TO THE UPPER MIDWEST BY EARLY SUNDAY. IN THE
PROCESS...A WARM FRONT IS EXPECTED TO LIFT NORTH INTO THE AREA
SATURDAY AS THE LOW MOVES INTO MINNESOTA. SHOWER/THUNDERSTORM
CHANCES APPEAR TO INCREASE BEGINNING AFTER MIDNIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT
ACROSS MAINLY WESTERN PARTS OF THE CWA AS STRONG LOW LEVEL JET IS
ORIENTED ACROSS IA INTO MN AND WESTERN WI BY 12Z SATURDAY. WOULD
EXPECT THE BULK OF THIS ACTIVITY TO LIFT ACROSS NORTHERN/NORTHWEST
IL AND INTO WI DURING THE DAY SATURDAY...WITH THE CWA THEN IN THE
WARM SECTOR LATER IN THE DAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. AM FAVORING THE
SLIGHTLY SLOWER GUIDANCE MEMBERS...NOTABLY THE GEM/ECMWF WHICH ARE A
LITTLE SLOWER WITH THE WARM FRONT SATURDAY...WHICH SEEMS REASONABLE
WITH SUCH A WOUND-UP LOW. WITH THIS IN MIND HAVE MAINTAINED A TEMP
GRADIENT FROM 70S SOUTH TO 60S NORTH SATURDAY...WITH THE ENTIRE AREA
STAYING IN THE 60S FOR THE MOST PART THROUGH THE NIGHT. THE COLD
FRONT THEN PUSHES EAST ACROSS THE AREA SUNDAY MORNING/EARLY
AFTERNOON WITH ADDITIONAL SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM THREAT.

AT THIS TIME...IT APPEARS THAT THERE WILL BE A THREAT OF SEVERE
WEATHER ACROSS PARTS OF THE MIDWEST SATURDAY/SUNDAY. THE GREATER
POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER WOULD LIKELY BE WEST OF OUR AREA ACROSS
MO/IA/MN SATURDAY...THOUGH THERE COULD BE A THREAT SUNDAY WITH
STORMS ALONG THE COLD FRONT IN OUR CWA. THE SPECIFICS OF THIS THREAT
WILL OBVIOUSLY BECOME MORE REFINED OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS MODELS
IMPROVE WITH THE DETAILS.

We are centered. Our fam. Though some may wander. Some may piss us off because they wander so much we just worry. And, there are shames and disappointments, and love, babies, and death. The center still comes spinning back- though more and more join our circle. Our circle can be the world. We love each other so much, that people just join us, and our circle becomes complete in the life, the love, the birth, the death, the center with the world.

Hi Jus, I think I'll support the smart dog theory! At a dog show one day a friend of mine commented that one of my dogs needed to go on a diet, (and she was right), I replied she is on one! Well its not working she said while the dog was eating the piece of fruit cake she had in her hand!!!!!! Everybody else was laughing.

I do want to be sure you see this. Today's Day 4-8. Maybe Tor potential Saturday up your way. Stuff could start in the middle Thursday night - probably. lol My brain is somewhere else.

DAY 4-8 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0353 AM CDT TUE OCT 09 2012

VALID 121200Z - 171200Z

...DISCUSSION...
MEDIUM RANGE MODELS CONTINUE TO INDICATE THAT A REMNANT CLOSED
LOW...OVER THE SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN AT THE START OF THIS PERIOD...
WILL FINALLY ACCELERATE MORE RAPIDLY NORTHEASTWARD...ACROSS THE
CENTRAL ROCKIES AND PLAINS BY LATE SATURDAY...BEFORE DE-AMPLIFYING
OVER THE GREAT LAKES REGION. AND CONFIDENCE IS INCREASING THAT THIS
WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY SIGNIFICANT LEE SURFACE CYCLOGENESIS
...INCLUDING A SUB-1000 MB SURFACE LOW CENTER. ALTHOUGH QUESTIONS
LINGER CONCERNING THE POTENTIAL MAGNITUDE OF DESTABILIZATION...
INSTABILITY...DEEP LAYER FLOW FIELDS/VERTICAL SHEAR AND FORCING FOR
UPWARD VERTICAL MOTION STILL APPEAR MOST SUPPORTIVE OF SEVERE
WEATHER POTENTIAL IN THE WARM SECTOR OF THIS SYSTEM ON SATURDAY.
THIS SEEMS MOST PROBABLE FROM PARTS OF EASTERN NEBRASKA AND KANSAS
NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS NORTHERN MISSOURI...IOWA...AND PARTS OF
SOUTHERN MINNESOTA...SOUTHWESTERN WISCONSIN...AND NORTHWESTERN
ILLINOIS. GIVEN THE SEVERE WIND AND TORNADO POTENTIAL POSSIBLE
WITHIN A KINEMATIC ENVIRONMENT NEAR A 70-90 KT SOUTHWESTERLY 500 MB
JET...AND 50-70 KT SOUTHERLY 850 MB JET...A REGIONAL SEVERE OUTLOOK
APPEARS WARRANTED...AS THE POTENTIAL EVENT BEGINS TO COME WITHIN A
MORE PREDICTABLE TIME FRAME.

Did I mention today was BOAT DAY 2012??? Yes! Hubby did boat day with his buddy who also was supposed to take out his Queen Mary (90's 26ft Carver he bought on ebay for 5k LOL! Ha ha and it worked!!!) Anyhooo...I was at work and didn't have to do anything ;)
But, it was windy for the guys bringing them in. They power-washed and will do the rest of the winterizing some other day.

Winds to 30k tomorrow again, too. Hmmmm and a pretty impressive feature heading out of California our way according to the Chitown discussion -

NEw, Hi! How bout NE and Da Bears yesterday! Wow. That did feel rather awesome coming to work on a Monday and not already being depressed.
Thank you for bringing by the gale warnings and such. You should have seen Lake Michigan yesterday. It was just soooooo beautiful. And, to be walking around a 6mil house was pretty amazing. I will have to go do a photo shoot in that whole area. Maybe Wednesday. The homes are just amazing.

Hiya Rob!
Thank you for checking in on me :) and thanks for your support last week for my son.
Trying to think of a good tune to play...it will come to me. May play some tonight.

Hi BF! You too yooo hooooo! We're good but it was busy. Hey, my client agreed to go look at that Frank Lloyd Wright overlooking Pistakee. I am so excited! Hope we can go while the collahs are full. I saw some new collahs on your maps over there by your blog. Did you get a new mapping program from your NWS? Very nice.

I'll add tunes {HERE} later as some sort of inspiration comes to mind.

For now, I'll leave with a pic of the 6mil view... Night all ships (who don't come back for tunes) be safe in port or at sea or where ever you may be!

Bad dog! Bad, bad, dog! I thought Fatso(our cat) was bad when she tried to paw a piece of chicken that was in my son's hand! I would wish that he would get a tummyache from the pizza, but then you would have to clean that up too! :(

You and hubby must be jazzed to know the pyro expert, and to see his handiwork on TV!

Don't get blown away! :)

Alrighty then, yes. I decided against any more cold pizza. I'm just going to 'hydrate'. I had one piece and left because hubby said strange things had happened here while we were gone. The door to the basement was open when he came home and Meatloaf was wandering aimless in the yard. The front door was wide open, and kitty was out of the bedroom???
So, I went to check on valuables (like my seiko watch, uhm yeah lol)...Meatloaf had set me up! He grabbed my pizza. He's a smart dog, that one...:(
So, then you all explained it with the wind warnings. Ok. That makes sense now. It's either Meatloaf the highly intelligent Lab or the Windy City. I'm really guessing the latter.
I guess I did notice the winds today and yesterday.

Just really busy showing houses and writing contracts etc...hopefully people will be in their happy homes by the holidays.

And Now For the Shameless Plug!!!
Our friend works the special effects and fire (pyrotechnics) for Chicago Fire (on NBC debuting Wednesday!) My husband met Ron Howard once because the guy also worked on Backdraft and many other movies. (Well, he's like REALLY GOOD!) We are all excited he is working here in Chicago and are hearing such exciting details about this new show! (Hey, He's a McHenry HS alum w/hubby and all) Can't wait til Wednesday when it airs!

Going to get my sweats on, unwind a bit and then will catch up on Wu happenins...bbs (again ;)

This doesn't look good for your area.

Gale Watches and Warnings in Effect Monday into Tuesday for Portions of the Upper Great Lakes

Strong winds starting on Monday and persisting into Tuesday will lead to significant waves across portions of the Upper Great Lakes. Waves of 12 to 18 feet with occasional waves up to 24 feet will be common, especially on Lake Michigan, creating hazardous weather conditions. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

Yeah, Ylee, just not the day for it. Apparently, some very large Uncles spoke to the pastor after the incident. He read very quietly from the Bible at the grave side, and left quickly afterwards.

The kids came over and had dinner last night. Son looked completely worn out. I think they had a bonfire every night since it happened and he's had people over at his house (buddies) every night. Plus, last night they erected the cross on the tree where it happened. And, he's been over at the family's house as much as possible too. One yewt friend goes back to Colorado today. So, it's winding down.

We took the dogs overnight. Boomer is so huge! His head looks like the head of a St. Bernard, lol! He is NOT comfortable to sleep on the bed ugh!

Chilly but a beautiful Fall day in Chiland. Last night, taking the dogs out late, it smelled like snow!

Have a good Saturday all, sounds like we may be going to watch the Northwestern game and then going to a cookout.

I can imagine what that preacher said, probably somewhere in the lines of that boy is burning in hell, and you all need to get right with the Lord before it'll be your turn. Seen one of those before.

Hi Wab, we didn't hardly get anything up here for some reason. But that temperature drop was amazing! Glad you got some good rain. Frost warning at your door step, huh?

Yes, NEw, IKR -- WG was just completely in shock. Then people just started walking out and she and my son got up and walked out, too. An elderly woman even said, 'Is that crazy guy done talking yet?' Apparently he started to raise his voice while the people were leaving.

I have asked all my children to come over for dinner tonight. We need to be together and get away from all this madness.

Going to show houses bbl. Hope you have a good weekend.

Wow,Jus,thats unbelievable. So good to see a pastor helping a family and friends ease their grief.Hard to imagine someone so insensitive and uncaring. These are people are suppose to be giving support to people.

We are approaching 80,going golfing in shorts, figure it will probably be the last time I wear shorts this year.

Thanks NEw, hi. (and hi to anyone I may have missed)

So, apparently the Pastor at this morning's service for the kid's friend insulted everyone and over 30 people walked out of the funeral. The funeral home apologized to the family for the Pastor's behavior.

I had to work so I did not go. WG texted me in shock saying 'I cannot believe what just happened'.

We talked a little while later and apparently this Pastor went off his rocker.

Nice. Nice job. Way to influence the youth and bring them closer to God. Way to give the grieving more to grieve about. What happened to forgiveness and caring?
The poor family. This was not the time to do this. It was a time to be there for the family. What a shame.

Gorgeous day today, may hit 80,before the roof caves in on Sunday and temps plunge and rain moves in.People going to the Patriots and Denver game to see Tom vs Peyton, will be miserable. Rain possibly heavy at times with temps in the 50's,ahhhh,the comfort of my warm living room sounds so nice.

Discussion.
{What an absolutely beautiful Fall.
Even the front today was like such fresh air. Can't describe it...but if I smell it again, I will remember}

Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville Illinois
1007 PM CDT Thursday Oct 4 2012

Discussion...
848 PM CDT

Frontal boundary arrived earlier this afternoon and quickly pushed
east across the area...with much cooler air filling in behind.
Temperatures rapidly fell into the middle 50s before sunset...and will
continue to fall through the remainder of the overnight into the
low/middle 40s away from Lake Michigan. Closer to Lake Michigan temperatures
will linger in the middle to possibly upper 40s in a few locations. Across
far northwest Illinois and including locations such as
Rockford...could see temperatures bottom out in the middle/upper 30s. Dew points
have already pushed into the low/middle 30s in some of these
locations.

Infrared imagery continues to show cooler clouds located south of
Chicago along the backside of the frontal boundary...with a slug
of precipitation stretching along and east of a Gibson City Illinois to
Rensselaer in. This area of precipitation is expected to continue over
these locations through the overnight hours...with possibly
another period of showers during the pre-dawn hours Friday. Elsewhere
have trimmed probability of precipitation to dry for the remainder of the overnight.
