Good News! The Digital Path wireless guys were here this morning, one tree climber and one DP tech. Turned out they are brothers.

So, as of about 12:15 pm the antenna was installed and receiving/transmitting the signal from/to Mt. Dyer. The signal strength is good and hopefully will remain so thru the coming winter and beyond. KCAALMAN1 is back reporting the weather at Prattville. :-)

1/23/2012Our PWS, KCAALMAN1, has been down since Friday, 1/6/12, when the Digital Path (high speed wireless service) antenna was removed from its site in a fir tree. That tree, along with 2 others, had to be removed to allow the installation of a new septic system, which has now been accomplished. We have an appointment with DP to get the antenna re-installed in another tree on Friday, 1/27, so hopefully this PWS data will again be available thereafter. Over the we...

Last month the desktop computer we have been using with the PWS for several years began having mysterious crashes and the MS "Blue Screen of Death" syndrome. So far, we haven't found the cause or the cure. So, I bought a little Toshiba NB505 Netbook computer and it has now been set up to run the Virtual Weather Station software. After some initial teething problems with it putting itself into hibernation when left alone, it now seems content to do the required da...

Today, 4/29/11, the troops from Digital Path (DP) got our wireless broadband connection back on the air after nearly 2 1/2 months down. We lost the system on 2/15 during a heavy snowstorm that loaded all the trees in the area and for whatever reason, the transponder went down. Today, they replaced the CPE with the latest dish version and added a new down cable and lightning protector. So, the PWS is back on the Wunderground and updating every 10 minutes again with ...

Dear Weather Enthusiasts,I apologize for the current lack of data on our PWS site. Our Lake Almanor PWS is currently off the air due to an extended power outage from our utility, the Pacific Gas and Electric Corp. (PG&E). The power originally went out on Wed. (1/20/2010) afternoon at about 5 pm. I have an auxiliary generator so fired it up and continued in that fashion during my waking hours for 2 days. The data would update and catch up each time we re-powered ...
