Well I thought I was pretty well on the way to vacation yesterday. The new crew we have is just KICKING ASS. Doing things Saturday which normally do not get done until Monday. Not sure if I mentioned that we had to let another senior guy go a few weeks back, everyone is new. Including Gnu. It is a good thing.
So last night I had a cocktail and was doing some lazy packing, getting ready to watch Saturday Night Live. The phone rings just as the show was starting. A food order! Even when things slow down we get the random late / early calls that eliminate sleep time. They wanted the order in the morning. So I got up earlier than I wanted and called the gang to get going. They had it ready as needed, then the boat had to switch docks as the winds were too high at the one they usually used. So now we were talking mid afternoon.
Last night we had steady 50 mph winds, with blasts of rain hitting the window by my head. Normally I like it, but I was thinking work all night and doing it as I slept. The worst was I awoke to a phone ringing a couple times, ringing in my HEAD. One phantom ring.
This morning I talked GNU-R over the phone on how to ring up the order we needed to pull. Took about 40 minutes. He is THE CYBORG, going in at 7 AM every and any day. Even when nothing is scheduled. Today it helped.
Eventually I went in and finished ordering the basics for the next THREE weeks. The new guys will add on the additional surprise stuff as it comes up. I made notes and instructions, then I was done.
Around 5 PM I touched base with the folks in KY, and my phone was turned off.
The plane left as scheduled, although our weather was shaky all day. At times the sun came out through a hole in the clouds. The wind was pretty strong all night and into the morning.
Not a lot of scenery though. Above the clouds, then the sun set. I fell asleep for a while then woke just in time for landing in the dark in Anchorage. I stopped for dinner at a seafood place at the airport. The menu said there were various chowders available, and I asked for the WHALE. They said they only had the CLAM, so we had a friendly argument on the two types. I emphasized that if they caught just one whale -just ONE- they could serve many chowders. Not so much with the clams. The waitress did not seem to get the point, and refused to pass the word on to the cook. Plus, she seemed to make the issue that the whale was so beautiful. And I rebuked that the clams were NOT?
I moved on.
So I catch a 12:50 AM flight to Portland, then kill a few hours in the early AM until I get on that 9:05 AM flight to LA. Another layover, then I leave at 3:40 PM to Albuquerque.
Will get there in the dark. Then golf the next two days, including Black Mesa near Santa Fe.
I AM ON VACATION!

Keep us all posted as you can. We had a very light rain last week, 0.02". But we're back to warm dry weather again. The WU ten day forecast is for mild (low to mid 70s), dry weather through the 24th. Perfect golfing weather.
You should do some house hunting in New Mexico while your there. I would choose it over AZ most any day. That is my biased opinion.
Let's cross our fingers that the new people do okay while you are gone. We wouldn't want anyone to starve. :)
I'm glad everything is going well, Dave.
Well, as near normal as Joe can manage.
I'll bet those female staff that work the late shift at the airport concessions are well used to single male travellers FLIRTING with them. Though probably not quite in the way Joe does it. Unique.
He was wearing his Rainbow Warrior Greenpeace hat at the time.
He is positively in an endangered species category all of his own. Shortly we will be able to adopt him for $3 a month and in return will receive regular updates on what he's getting up to.
I know what you're all thinking, we get that much now - for free. But from next month he's offering glossy full colour recipe cards. If you complete the collection he'll also send out his advice on which remedies best neutralise E.coli infections of the lower intestine just prior to catching your next scheduled flight...
Morning, My Two bits... spent maybe 15 or 20 nights in ABQ,...... nice clean city and all that, but just didn't care for it !.... PHX wasn't a nice place, however I did spend 3 weeks in Chino Valley and loved it!....Chino is about 20 miles north of Presscot.
Looking forward to a couple of days with Joe. Black Mesa, Paa-Ko, whiskey and ribs. Should be good. We'll have the normal bets going:
Eagle: $10.00 (it will never happen)
Birdy: $5.00 (very rare)
Snake: $2.00 (last guy to three put per nine)
Hardware: $1.00 (hit the stick from off of the green)
Ace Hardware: $2.00 (hit the stick and go in the hole)
Hole winner: $1.00
Sandy: $1.00
It looks like lots of money but usually we end up fairly even. The main thing is that no one gets hurt. I've witnessed Joe swinging a club with one foot placed two feet above the other as he is trying to hit the buried golf ball out of the top lip of a sand trap. The result was a tumble back into the bottom of the trap. I will say he did get it out. There has been cart incident's. I will admit to rolling a cart outside of Cincinnati. How ever I did par the next hole and the bleeding was minor. It's all part of the game.
Regards,
Casa
Now Casa, would that be Joe tumbling back into the trap or the ball? Questions. Questions. Questions. Be careful - I don't want to have to bail anyone out of jail!
