Gusting to 70mph+ here & no high wind warning??

WOW. Just WOW! I'm feeling our little place rock and roll around me. We took Katie for a walk earlier and watched the trees bend and the wind-driven waves crash around by the inlet. I'm sure it's not quite as windy in Klawock, but it is HOWLING with trees down in Craig. Wild night. Nothing about a wind advisory or warning or anything. Rumor has it the ferry won't go in the morning, and the barge isn't going to make it in tomorrow (which is REALLY inconvenient, 'cause the store's been picked over and over and we miss things like bananas...) *sigh* At least the power's holding for now (flickering and scary earlier tonight). Have a safe night, everyone! I'll post pics of the aftermath (if my phone allows it)!

Hi, sunlakedude!

Still here, but so insanely busy...well... the library's going swimmingly. I've spent the last month going through Hell (and remember what Churchill said about that -- if you're going through Hell, keep going) because I got $ for some renovations. We gutted the library, pulled carpet, cleaned, painted, installed new carpet, and then put everything back IN to the library. *whew* Because I started this at the beginning of an unanticipated cold snap, pipes froze all over town and it was chaos, so I ended up with no City help. It was me working 14 hour days and whatever volunteers came by (and there were lots and I'm so fortunate to have them!)It was a beautiful thing that the public put the Public Library back together, but let's just say I'm a little on the tired side....

In November, I tried to go on vacation, but as I was walking onto the plane in Ketchikan (no lie), my cell phone rang, and it was the production company for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They wanted to come to Craig to shoot a video at the library. So, my vacation turned out to be 1 day in San Francisco, and then I turned around and headed back to Craig. The video shoot was LOTS of fun, and the video should be ready soon (and on the Gates Foundation website). I can't wait to see it (even though I was horrified when I realized they wanted to film ME -- I kept telling them I have a great look for radio, and couldn't I just do some enthusiastic voice-over while they panned around the library?? PLEASE???!?!)

Then I got sick (again). Well, I've had a fibro diagnosis since late-1993, and this time, nothing hurt. That's just it. NOTHING hurt. It attacked my skin this time and it was like aching, burning, searing fire. Oh, it was probably the worst it's ever been. BUT, I discovered, when my daughter put her hand on my arm and told me that she wished I didn't hurt so bad ... the pain went away. Yeah. Weird. Touching, grabbing, putting pressure on my arms made it NOT hurt. So...NOTHING (no contact) was what hurt.

Then, I got better. ^__^

Tomorrow is our video conferencing launch for the Alaska OWL project. I'm doing a Tweetup with an #AlaskaOWL hashtag on twitter. I'm jitterymoose over there, too. ^__^

I need to be better and hang out here. We've had a heckuva winter -- bitter cold, snow, ice, WICKED 100 mph winds that have howled and torqued the heck out of the place we've been living in.... We're just coming off a four-day stretch of sun and no wind. The wind came up last night, and now it's pounding rain and beginning to blow again (and it's cold). I'm heading to Fairbanks next week, and I'm actually looking forward to snow...and no rain.

Missed you all. I need to be better and hang out here. ^__^

JM-I haven't seen a post from you in months. Are you ok? Still on "The Island Where Nobody Goes"?

My mouth is watering right now!!!!

Several years ago (7 maybe) I became allergic to extoskeleton shellfish (shrimp, crab, etc) and can't eat any of it. Many years ago i did have Dungeness crag and it was GREAT ( with a roar)

Keep well and the best to family.

^___^ Freezer's nearly stuffed, but my new addiction is canning smoked salmon and halibut. Ooooo, we've had a great year fishing (and the coho and humpies are still running in Klawock -- 'cept it's blowin' 60mph and pounding down rain, and fishing's not AS fun like that! I JUST MADE smoked halibut chowder for supper (after an absolutely exciting day book and publication-wise -- I'm getting close!), and it's all sorts of really fantastically good! Shrimping starts on October 3rd, and my 'duck (geoduck) divers should be in just after that. Alaskan spot prawns. Man. They ROCK! ^__^ (and it's been a great year for Dungeness, too!)

Um... how FAR south of Maine? :D

Hey JM how full is your freezer (salmon, bear, etc)? Ready for winter or not? Lots of veggies in ours, but had a BIG battle with critters and bugs this year.

Wife retired this year so may be looking for a month or so waayyy south of here(Maine). Two cord of wood in and stacked in the greenhouse, pallet of bio-brick in, and generator cleaned. I guess were ready for one more year.
