...no more pictures from the old SONY Cybershot 5.1. It looks like it slid out of the truck in Casper, WY at the Walgreens/Wendy's parking lot, and someone must have picked it up. While it was an old camera, the memory card is all I want back. I'm pretty sure it landed next to the truck, so I'm bummed that someone didn't pick it up and just put it on the truck. Oh, well. Not a good first impression of Wyoming. That, and the wind was just HOOOOOWWWLLLLIIINNNGGG and there was the lady at Wal-Mart who said that Rawlins is the "armpit" of Wyoming. Well, we're here, and it's not that bad. I think it'll all be okay (and the wind wasn't whipping around like a son-of-a-gun, either).
The kids got to go to the water park at the West Edmonton Mall, and then we drove (the next day) to Great Falls and stayed at a GREAT Hampton Inn (***** stars, and a really great staff!). Went and had the tires changed out, the oil changed, and then headed towards Billings. Stupidly, I didn't download the camera last night. :-(
Today, crossed into Wyoming (and saw a Lynden Transport (Alaska) truck stopped at the K-Mart in Sheridan, WY!), got to Casper, horror of the camera (I just cried and cried because it's the camera we'd bought to take to Ireland years ago, and while it was quite old and we needed to buy a new one, I really feel horribly about the memory card...and remember, it's been an incredibly long trip and we're all exhausted!)
Then....Rawlins. It was dusk so we didn't see much, but we're staying at a very nice hotel for a couple of days until we get the lay of the land and try to figure out what to do next.
Hope everyone's having a WONDERFUL evening! Hope my friends in Fairbanks are doing well (e-mail me if you have news about the Kenya Mission Trip from the church--are they all okay??).
Take Care everyone! JM and family (and now it's just the WIND that's making me "Jittery")

On our way from Vegas to Alaska we stopped up and visited my wife's mom in Sheridan after a stay over in Rawlins. Sad to say, but Sheridan I think is bigger then Rawlins. If my memory serves me correctly, Rawlins doesn't have a Wal-Mart and you are 100+ miles from the next town. Oh and about the armpit of Wyoming comment that woman made, we heard the exact same thing about Fairbanks when we spent a little while down in Anchorage.
Also hope you kept your mosquito repellent from Alaska. They swarm there like they do here, just don't think they're as big.
what a journey you are on and still a positive blog(attitude)...WOW!
The blogs were alive tonite with the HORROR of the Southern Freeze(FL,GA,MI,SC,TX, all coastal. all whining! LOL))...Seems minor...when I read your blog, but I do like to whine with the rest of them-and i did! LOL Its all relative. How are you finding wifi? Guess you have a laptop along the way?
Are we there yet??

Our May trip to Alaska was one of those guided tours but it was all on land. I did not want to take a cruise. We flew into Fairbanks where it got up to 70 degrees. It was fantastic as the sun set around 11:40 PM and rose at 3:30 AM. We traveled by bus to Denali and saw Mt McKinley with no clouds. We took a guided 7.5 hour bus tour into Denali park and saw wild bears and caribu. Then we rode the Alaska RR to Anchorage for a couple of days. What wonderful sites. Our trip ended in Seward where we took a another 7.5 hour boat tour via Resurrection Bay to Holgate glacier.
Anyway I hope you have safe travel and maybe get back your camera or acquire a new one to show more pictures. PS; I backed up my pictures onto a jump drive every day so I was lucky for I took over 500 pictures of beautiful Alaska.

You might try calling the Wal Mart in Casper to see if someone turned in your camera. Sometimes people take those into the store when they find them in the lot.
Someone asked why Laramie had the university and Rawlins had the prison. They were told that Rawlins got first choice.
When you get settled you will like the country around Rawlins. The Snowy Range is great. It isn't too far to the Wind River mountains up around Lander.
There are quite a few people in Wyoming that have lived in Alaska. Hope you enjoy it.
