Snow! Beautiful snow!

...and we were only supposed to get about an inch of snow, but there's at least 3" stacking up over the ridge at the moment, and it's coming down heavily! Hooray! This is the first real snow since November 17th. It's been awful for snow. Katie and I did a walk yesterday on the Secret Trail up on the Skyline Ridge system, and it was patchy packed ice and BARE GROUND all along the way. Completely strange.

Wolves near the neighborhood. Everyone in Fairbanks probably knows about the wolf pack that's been "commuting" and "snacking on pet dogs" (according to the News-Miner) between North Pole and the Chena Hot Springs Road. The paper had an interview with Aily Zirkle today out in Two Rivers--the wolves have been dropping by around 3am to have a look at her sled dogs, it seems. Katie and I HEARD them on our walk on Wednesday. We were walking back from the trail along Noel Road, when Katie just stopped, every bit of fur on her rose up, and she didn't move a muscle. It was so faint--so in the distance, but there it was. Dogs don't sound like that. I'm guessing we would be able to hear them from the ridge--Chena Hot Springs Road isn't so far away as the Raven flies..... Creepy beyond belief.

No word from our favorite mom-to-be! C'm on, honey--due date +2 at this point, eh? :-) Thoughts and hugs and prayers going out to you!

Hope everyone is having a great day! Gotta run out and fill the feeder before the chickadees revolt (which, I'm guessing, would not be pretty). Anyway, weird bird observation from the ridge--this time last year, I was up to my eyeballs in red polls with only 2-3 chickadees that would stop by every so often. THIS YEAR, I'm up to my armpits in chickadees and have YET to see a red poll in the neighborhood. Weird. :-)

have a great day! JM

Remember Pearl Harbor Day:
Hay Jit , here in Maine its the eastern blue jay and the chickadees that wipe out my bird food a few squirrels may have a hand or two in it.
There are a few hybred gray wolfs it northern Maine but our big problem is the eastern cyote [?] in the lower parts of the state.
