So far mild...

-18F in Fairbanks, and +6.3F up here on the ridge (I LOVE the temperature inversion!). So far, so good for January, and it's almost over. This is usually the worst week. Last year, temperatures plummeted well past -50F, and historically, this is one of the worst -60F times. I've always disliked the last three weeks of January (probably because that was the -40s time when we first moved into the house in Copper Center) here, but this year hasn't been so bad. I can only hope February doesn't decide to slap us around (I remember something like -36F on March 1st last year, and I think the photo of the thermometer is somewhere in my blog photos, so it can happen!). Dave Sawatzky withdrew from the Yukon Quest yesterday for personal reasons, and our thoughts and prayers go with him and his family. Our field is down to 30, but it's a really strong field. Check out for more info (and be sure to check out the calendar of events because I'm updating it like crazy!). February 10th is getting closer....and closer... and closer! :-) Have a great day! JM
