Young Male Cardinal (icmoore)
He is a little bit younger than the one that I started posting right after Mother's Day and his parents are the regulars in my backyard that I post a lot of.

Noticed you been posting in DocM's recently and that you're on/near the water at Madeira Beach.

You better be popping back up when you can, so we know all's well at your place.

Dear Ms. Moore -

I am giving a lecture in New Zealand later this month that includes a discussion of birds' vision. It is free and open to the public (see http://bit.ly/K0a1a ) I should like to use your photo "Male and female cardinal" (1788) as an illustration in the lecture and in the local publicity materials. If you consent to this, would you please tell me the appropriate way to credit the photo, e.g. "Photo credit: Full name"

Best regards -

Cathy, the photos of the birds are fabulous! Amazing that you have so many varieties visit your backyard. What do you do to attract them to your yard? I am impressed.

Thank you Patti and hiya Todd!! Thank you so much Juslivn, for sharing your first signs of spring with me, BEAUTIFUL, and for the compliments on my pics. I hope to finish a lot of projects that need to get done at home and one day have the time and inspiration again to enjoy my backyard birds and share them. This year is the first time in 3 or 4 years that I have Robins in the yard..oh well they will hopefully come back again next year. Thank you everyone here at WU!

Thank you, Gams! You probably understand more now why I always take such great pleasure in your family pictures.
Our Mom was the glue that held our family together and when she died the grief and differences took over. I am so happy to have my big sister back again..We are both old enough now to know that life is not forever and we have missed so much..like our children growing up and her having Grandchildren..and so much more but I don't want to dwell on those things I want to rejoice in the time we have left to be together :) even though we live in different states.
Spring will come but not tonight. We are suppose to see 25 degrees here tonight!!!
I don't have much time lately for networking anywhere and I held out for a long time going to Facebook but having all of my family members scattered around the country it has been a godsend. It is very different but I'm so glad I finally went for it but my first love will always be WU!!!

Hi Cathy,

I am so sorry I am so late getting here.
First of all I want to say I'm sorry about the death of your Father. It is always hard to lose a parent.

Then I want to say Wonderful! that you and your siblings are talking again and you and your sister have become so close. That is great.

Familes are sometimes difficult relations, especially sisters.. my sister and I hardly spoke for several years but finally had to when Mother got sick. We still live in very different worlds but have learned to just get along when we need to for family's sake.

And this winter, especially Jan and Feb have been horrible but surely spring will eventually come! I have not even been able to get out in my back yard; it really needs a lot of work.

Anyway, cannot wait for you to get back out taking photos again.

As for Facebook, my kids are all there and a lot of family and friends, but I just do not have the time for any other networking....
it is hard enough for me to keep up here on WU! And I love this place.

Take care and come back soon!

Surfmom, thank you and you should definitely keep the faith! I had given up and never, ever thought that this would happen to me!! I am amazed at the bond that was still between us after all these years. She is so sweet! I don't know how we could all have let so much time go by. Petty differences, youth, stubborness, and then the fear of being hurt again probably all played a part. The thing is I'm not sure it would have ever happened without Facebook. It was a safe place for each of us to get reacquainted slowly one by one until we were ready to see each other again. My oldest brother really gets all of the credit. He was the bridge that brought us all together. Someone had to stick their neck out and risk being rejected and I couldn't make myself do it. It is so wonderful to be in touch with people that share my early memories again.
Linda, you were so right spring is coming! I just came in from taking my dogs out and while I was outside I heard a Mourning Dove cooing, Cardinals cheeping, and a Woodpecker pecking :)
If any others of you join Facebook please look me up (Cathy Pinholster Moore)and send me a friend request. I even have a friend that was in my 1st grade class but moved away sometime afterwards. It's still all pretty amazing to me the power of the Internet and the power of love!

Thank you Code, Surfmom, Juslivin, Ally, and Linda! Surfmom that is such a beautiful and moving video. Juslivin, I'm with you, hurry up spring! I hope to catch spring fever and get back into taking pictures and when I do I will start a new blog. Linda, what a beautiful picture and beautiful words! After 26 years of being without my siblings and other family members I can now say I have lots of new loveshine in my life and the sun is shining here today, too! My big sister and I can not go a day now without checking on each other which is special to me beyond words. I was totally unprepared for how I would feel when I saw her for the first time, tears of joy just started flowing...Then when I got home and looked at the two pictures that were taken of us I cried again, happy tears. I hope you all have special people in your lives and thank you for being in mine. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you here at WU!!

My condolences IC. Am pleased to read you connected with family not seen for a while, and some never seen. Sad that it takes death sometimes to bring it about though. Will look forward to your backyard birds again when you feel up to it. Take care you!

Good morning to all of you and thank you to those that came by and posted. I'm sorry it has been so long since I checked in here.
On New Years Eve my Dad passed away suddenly. He had been hospitalized to clear up a kidney infection but he had congestive heart failure too and I think the meds proved to be too much for him and he went into kidney failure. It happened fast as they were trying to get him into a room at a Hospice. Then his Dr went on a New Year's weekend trip away and didn't sign his death certificate which was the first of many screw ups to follow. The only good thing out of all of it was that all 4 of us siblings were together for the first time in 26 years as he was laid to rest next to our Mother. Even though he was remarried his wife was a widow too and they both had plots next to their first spouses and decided years ago that they would be buried next to them. I'm still trying to sort out a lot of feelings and get use to having an extended family too. Seeing my sister again was priceless. I also saw my Aunt and Uncle too (my Mom's sister), some cousins, and met for the first time a Great Niece and Great Nephew.
I haven't taken any pictures since before Thanksgiving so nothing new to share about my backyard birds. Gams how exciting about you getting to see another Painted Bunting!
Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I hope you all have a great day.

I love the pic of the Eastern Bluebird and the Cardinal. They look like pals! Haven't been here for a while so I popped in to say hello! I didn't post the little kitty graphic so it wouldn't scare off the birds. Beautiful pics. Can you come take pics of my menagerie someday? Some of the same cast of characters in IL but I can't get them like you do! Hope all is well.

Happy afternoon IC. Got two new bird feeders for Christmas. My birds have kind of disappeared again. I think I still have my 2 pair of resident red birds and my doves but that is about it. Hope you and hubby have a wonderful NYE.

Hi Amy!!

Help my belly is starting to resemble the hippo's! I think I'll start my diet Jan. 2nd otherwise I'm probably setting myself up for failure. So that gives me a few more days to pack it in YEA! Now pass me those brownies :)
