Hi, huri!

Yes'm, it's me! And bug explained it perfectly. I discovered that, because of the "reach" of WU, anyone who googled for "shoreacres" to find my Wordpress blog was landing here instead - at least a good bit of the time.

So, I just picked another name and put up The Back Forty as my new page here. Other than that, it's just the same old me!

I'm sure glad to see you. I'll have to do a few chores and then see how the weather is treating you and Bug. I was able to go to work today, and my goodness, it felt good!

It's a toss up, Huri. I hate both of them! Both stress me out, each with a different set of worries.

I'm a happy medium type of gal. Not too hot, not too cold, not too windy, not too rainy.

You do know Thoughtsteader is shoreacres' new handle? She'll continue to hang out here, visit and blog but wanted to do her serious writing over on WP. She wanted search engine results for 'shoreacres' to point readers to WP, rather than to WU.

Huri, Your map colors are rather pretty, even if it puts me in the pink zone. We've had steady ice for a couple of hours so it is visible in the trees and that is a very unusual sight around here. I am not seeing some tiny snow flurries mixed in, so hopefully the changeover will be soon.
Take care!

We may actually get some sunshine tomorrow afternoon. I am counting on it. Looks like we may end up with a foot of snow! By Friday our temps should be in upper 40s I think, but I have listened to so many digits of snow total estimates and temps that I really don't know anymore.

I don't know about you, Bug, but as rough as snow and ice are, it's still better than a hurricane in my opinion.

What did you cook for suppa?

We've got an 80% chance of precip forecast for tomorrow and the high is only going to be about 30F. No sun for us until Thursday. :-(

WOW Bug. I am so thankful that you got off early and are off tomorrow. My plan is similar to yours; although I may venture out for a walk in the snow tomorrow if I can find my boots and if the sun comes out.

I just saw Cantore on TWC (he's in town - ye gads!) and he was saying that the Ravenel bridge is now shut down.

I think the fact that most places either closed today or closed early, before the rain started around 4:30, has been a big help. Almost everyone is home or where they're going to weather this storm.

I still see a fair number of vehicles on the road. Not a lot but one or two go by, every few minutes. They're not police or official vehicles, that I can see. Why are those people on the road? Sheesh....

I got home from work around 12:30 and I have no intention of going anywhere until Thursday.

Hi Bug,
Thanks for your report from Charleston. I love the way you say
We're getting nothing so far but freezing rain and ice.

I'm sure you will keep your sense of humour and calm demeanor through this. You know I am wishing for a warm bubble around you to protect you for any harm.

Hello! Take care. It was strange to be so warm yesterday and be expecting winter to abruptly return.

For our area, there are tons of differing prediction totals being tossed around, updated, and updated again. It will be interesting to see what we actually get. Personally, I'd like to see some of the original forecast that called for snow, but the concensus now seems that we are to expect an ice storm. Nobody agrees on how much ice.

See that blue line of snow from western Virginia into Georgia (as of 0738 Tue)? THAT was not in the models and I wonder what affect it will have in the progress of this storm. We have gone from lower sixties yesterday, which melted all the snow, to mid twenties this AM. Predictions are 5-7 inches of snow. One forecaster bravely forecasted neighborhood totals. Today's upper range is 7 vs 8 last night. I use the word bravely optimistically as this may be a new marketing technique replacing the as we told you days ago
script.

Forecast Discussion. 606 AM EST MON JAN 27 2014

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
WINTER STORM WATCHES HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR FAR SERN VA AND ALL OF
NE NC. DRY WX FOR AT LEAST THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY TUE AS SFC LO
PRES DEVELOPS OFF THE SE CST IN RESPONSE TO A STRONG LO-LEVEL
THERMAL GRADIENT AND APPROACHING MID-LEVEL ENERGY. THIS LO WILL
TRACK NEWRD THRU THE DAY WITH PRECIP OVERSPREADING ERN NC. ASIDE
FRM SOME SLEET PSBLY MIXING IN NEAR THE CST...EXPECT ALL PRECIP TO
BE SNOW WITH THIS EVENT. THE WATCH STARTS AT 18Z FOR NE NC AND 21Z
FOR SE VA. ONE ISSUE AT THE ONSET WILL BE DRY AIR IN PLACE (E.G.
DEWPTS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS TO LWR TEENS).

ALL MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGESTS A SHARP CUTOFF ON THE NW EDGE OF THE
SNOW SHIELD AS THE LO PULLS EAST OF THE AREA. THEREFORE EXPECT A
TIGHT GRADIENT IN SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WITH THIS SYSTM. WHILE
00Z GUIDANCE TRENDED NORTH AND WEST WITH THE PRECIP
SHIELD...ALL MODELS STILL KEEP THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS
OVER THE SE QUADRANT OF THE FA...AND PSBLY UP THE VA ERN SHORE.
CONFIDENCE IS ABOUT 75% FOR WARNG-LEVEL SNOWFALL (3"+) OVER SERN
PORTIONS OF THE WATCH AREA WHERE OVR HALF A FOOT IS PSBL...AND
ABOUT 50% AT ITS WRN EXTENT (NORTHAMPTON NC AND SOUTHAMPTON VA).
CHANCE FOR SNOW ALSO EXTENDS UP INTO THE RIC AREA BUT CONFIDENCE
IN A WARNG-LEVEL SNOW THERE IS VERY LO...SO NO HAZARDS NEC ATTM.
WILL UPDATE ALL HAZARDS ACCORDINGLY TDY/TNGT. THE SNOW WILL END
FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE AREA ON WED.

AS FOR TEMPS...BLO NORMAL READINGS CONTINUE...WITH HIGHS RANGING
THRU THE 20S ON TUE..AND UPR 20S/LWR 30S ON WED. OVRNGT LOWS STILL
IN THE TEENS IN MOST AREAS. WIND CHILL READINGS IN THE SINGLE
DIGITS.

Hi WCF,
Thanks for the info on your weather. Seems to me what you get, I get a couple days later, to a lesser or greater degree. This one has me anxious.

Dear ECF,
No question this is an um... butt-kicking arctic system. Temp in central OK dropped from 70 at 4 p.m. Sunday to 22 by 8 a.m. today. Not to mention sustained N winds at 20-30 mph gusting as high as 50. Looking at what is and will be happening elsewhere, I feel fortunate a couple days of cold temps and wind chill is all I will get from this storm.

Sounds like ice is a concern, especially along SE Atlantic coast, like where Bug is. Ice storms are the worst. Hope things aren't too bad for anyone.

Please take care.

Hi Sandi-Across-The-Atlantic,
Thank you for dropping in. We still have snow on the ground though most of the ice has melted. There is another storm predicted for Tuesday-Wednesday. It has been a little rough. I want to check in on Bug to see if she is going to get snow. I don't think she would like that. It's gotten so it is not a fun novelty anymore, for me at least.

What a relief. The storm system has moved through and we are okay. Heard from hubby who was working at the beach. He was able to secure his area and take shelter in a guest house. At our home, I was able to secure some of the furniture and things on the decks and clean out the deck drains prior to the storm coming through. There was very strong wind, but only for a short period of time--less than a minute(?). On the first floor I heard crashes and hoped for best. All the chairs on the south-facing deck toppled over, with one chair crashing through some clay pots. Glass topped round table and smaller side table still standing. On the back-end of the storm there was some lightning, very little of it. Surrounding roads are not flooded. Lou (meow) is fine, he slept through it on second floor. Very thankful.
