fall progress in the mid atlantic

By: georgevandenberghe, 8:05 PM GMT on September 09, 2013

Cool late summer weather has been followed by warmer than normal early fall weather. Cool season crops are ahead of schedule but suffering from heat. Looks like the week of 9/9-9/13 will be hot, then cooling sharply which will be welcomed.

A woodchuck ate the broccoli and lettuce and swarms of crickets ate the carrots. But other transplants of these are growing out of reach of these pests and I'm still OK.

Big success this fall has been peas. Sugarsnaps the first week of september are two feet tall and it looks like finally I'll get decent fall peas if something doesn't happen. (Hail, locusts ..!!??)
