An isolated cyclone off the Portuguese coast will finally move east over Iberia today. Although its upper level dynamics and jet streak are not strong, they are aimed directly at Andalucía. Because the cyclone is isolated from the main polar jet stream, it will be slow-moving. Combine this with an ample supply of moisture from the south, and the threat of heavy rain is definitely present.
Rain bands will move in with the initial front in the west today. AEMET has already hoisted a yellow alert for rain accumulation there. However, the heaviest and most widespread rain (area-wide) will be tomorrow, with an orange alert for the Málaga coast (80 mm accumulation over 12 hours). Thunderstorms are a good bet, especially in the afternoons. So be on the alert for flash flooding!
Precipitation will decrease but persist on Friday. Gradual improvement will ensue on Saturday.
