Talking about the tropics when our current temps are dropping doesn't seem to make sense, but it is hurricane season. Fortunately/unfortunately, "Chris" was a bust, so on to other storms. Let me reiterate my policy on posting about the tropics: I only post about those storms which I feel have the potential to impact MD. I don't talk about all the storms, hence why you didn't hear me talk about "Chris" even though I wanted to. ... But, if any of you are travelling to a hurricane prone area let me know and I will give you a forecast.
Ok, on to the latest tropical issue, Debby. I only bring her up due to a slight; very slight, chance she will impact MD. I know the official path from the NHC has her headed toward TX and LA, but I am respectfully disagreeing with that track. Actually, in their latest update, the NHC has moved the track further to the east, more in line with what I am thinking. I see Debby either crossing FL and running along the Atlantic, or entering land between LA and AL with a possible inland track to MD. This latter path would bring us much needed rain! Given climatology in the area, I see Debby intensifying to hurricane status, being picked up by the trough in the area, and crossing FL. The probable track at that point would be out to sea, but with a slight chance for her to ride up the east coast toward MD.
Bottom line: Watch to see if the NHC continues to move Debby's track further to the east, then watch for either landfall around LA/AL, or for her to cross FL into the Atlantic. I will be keeping an eye on this, but again, it is a "slight" chance for her to impact MD. "IF" she does impact MD it would be around next weekend or so.
