Current radar image shows many storm cells in the area capable of producing hail and strong winds. Rotation is indicated in many of these cells, so stay tuned to local reports. This system will stay in the area for another couple hours and is stronger and longer-lived then expected.
Looks like we are in for some severe weather on Sunday. The components for this weather is a warm front stalling and a low pressure system moving in. Wind shear will be strong.
Here's how I see things shaping up later today into Sunday. For most of us we will see rain beginning after 6:00 today, remaining steady throughout the evening and into the morning hours. Heavier rains will be felt after 10:00 or so tonight. Come Sunday morning the rain will continue through the day, but no real threat of flooding is expected.
The severe weather will begin in the later morning hours, first in Southern MD. Actually, it appears Southern MD will experience the worst of the storms with strong winds, lightning and hail all possible. I do not expect to see tornadic activity, but at the same time, if a small one were to form it would not surprise me either. Those in Central MD and Southern PA will see storm activity in the afternoon hours. Storms will not be as severe as in Southern MD, but you can still expect to see strong wind and lightning. As the sun sets the storm activity will diminish. After Sunday the temps will cool and it will rain through Tuesday, but no storms.
I have no doubt there will be watches and warnings issued Sunday. Expect these to be for wind and thunderstorms.
It is about time for us to have storms, for a comparison to last Spring up until April 24, 2009, reveals we had 8 severe weather days.
***NOTE: unfortunately, during this stormy activity I will not have access to technology, therefore I will not be able to update you on conditions. This includes no updates to my blog or weather phone. I apologize for the inconvenience and poor timing of the storms, but it cannot be helped. Please monitor the conditions of the skies in your area tomorrow to be aware of your surroundings and thus safe. I will be back online Sunday night.
Comments will take a few seconds to appear.
