Stay warm, everyone! 11 degrees out right now and I have a feeling it may be a few days before I even see anything that 'warm' again.
Ally is such a sweetie.
I'm looking forward to a photo of her new smile. :-)
I'm also looking forward to the subzeros this weekend! We won't be having any visits from Black Widow Spiders this year, and we may be more healthy next Winter as this cold snap kills some germs. Yeah!
I hope it comes with a good prognosis.
Prayers ensuing!
The colours on the forecast map kind of took me by surprise:
The Concord, NH area is expecting clear skies. Colder with lows 10 to 15 below. Light and variable winds. Wind chill values as low as 30 below. They have a Wind Chill Warning.
Up here in Vermont we are expecting clear skies and a frigid night. Patchy ice crystals after midnight. Near record lows around 27 below. Northwest winds around 10 mph until 10 PM...becoming light and variable. Wind chill in some places could flirt with -40. So we have a mere Wind Chill Advisory.
=Stay snug, everyone!=
We're still expecting record or near-record lows tonight.
I sure hope the homefires are burning at your house.
We set out extra food for the birds, and will not deter ANY creature, from deer to squirrel,
who happens by for a snack tonight and in the morning. Hoping for no bears this year.
You can bet that fire is stoked! We at -4 and still have a steady, bitter wind at 10-15 making it a cold -20 to -25. I even put up some foam insulation board for the chickens!
Keep warm yourself:)

Thanks so much for the b-day wishes Listener! that is so sweet! Sorry I havn't stopped by for a while. Just read about Ally's teeth surgery, I am glad it all went so well. Is she feeling less uncomfortable with it now or is she still on pain meds? She is off to NYC very soon now right? and her b-day is coming right up? What did she ask for? any special presents?
I have uploaded my rooster cake to my WU gallery. Another photo I put there weeks ago still says it is waiting to be submitted, so not sure what's up with that!? I think this is a link to my photo on WU, not sure though :0/
Snowmog! That is one fine Rooster cake! Mmmm! As a parent who has made many special cakes over the years I have a sense of how much work it was to frost that cake! Wow! You did great! I'll bet Tabitha was tickled! Your kitty in the snow photo totally rocks, too!! Where was it taken?
Sooo, as regards Ally. *As I was reading your query about Ally* I got a little pop up note telling me I had a new Ally update. Awesome. I'll post it in a moment...complete with photo! :-)

Ally is doing great! She woke up on Saturday morning and returned to her normal self. We gave her some regular Tylenol just a couple of times that day, and has not needed any sense. She is easing her way back into crunchy foods, and as a special treat we went to the Olive Garden for dinner tonight. She LOVES the cheese they put on everything! She even got a second helping of cheese on her pasta tonight.
Ally only has 2 days of preschool this week, and then, on Sunday Daddy and Ally head to New York for round four of 3f8.
We would like to say a special thank you to Ally’s Mommy’s side of the family. Their generous gift help offset the cost of this surgery, as we don't have dental insurance. Thank you so much. Ally's teeth and our peace of mind are indebted to you until the Tooth Fairy comes (which someone told Ally brings you $50 a tooth....WHAT?)
Presently we're at -8.3 and falling.
I don't know why, but weather like this excites me. :-)
Snowmog...I haven't heard of any special requests from Miss Ally for her birthday (which is the 30th). She will actually be spending it in NYC and likely in pain from the 3f8 treatments. So they're going to do a little cake this weekend, then a big party with little friends when she gets home and settled in.
*** Update on 2/26: Ally hasn't asked for anything in particular, but we hear she doesn't need books. And at least she only travels to NYC on her birthday. The painful treatments don't start until the next day.
It got down to around -20 in Middlebury where I was that night. My thermometer right at my window near the lake in Burlington read -15 but it reads a bit warm during cold snaps due to proximity to the window. So it probably got near -20 right down to the lake! It's still mostly unfrozen though. I guess it sure would take an intense cold to freeze the center of the lake, and I guess a milder summer too.
The fire story really hit home also. A place my friend was renting had a small house fire. Thankfully no one was home, no pets, the only living things that died were a few houseplants (temperatures hot enough to melt plastic, THEN -20 after the heat was turned off! Not many plants could survive that)... The place wasn't leveled but lots of smoke damage and we had to go through the ashes and move the non-destroyed items to a storage unit. Needless to say that home will be uninhabitable for a while.
Anyway, looks like fairly uneventful weather for the next week, but that's ok. It'll be cold though! Stay warm everyone.
Sooo sorry to hear about your friends' house fire! It's good to have supportive friends at a time like that.
Inyo, I agree with you about the purity of the air after such cold. I really like it! Here's a photo I took on that really cold morning.
Inyo, they say Burlington got down to -19 that night. We had at least -22.8 here. Sweet!
Nice pics Listener. That hawk(?) looks like it's unhappy about having its photo taken.
We managed -21.7F the other day. It was -19 when I walked up to wait for the bus with Katie (my 11 yr old). I had her wrapped tight, old fur coat, blankets, etc. After first telling me I was mean for making her go to school, she came around and saw it as an adventure.
Looks like a miss on this storm for us Listener. At least or friends in MA, CT get some. I don't want wet snow anyway. I'd rather keep the cold so the 14-16" on the ground stays nice and fluffy. A few inches are possible from a clipper on Sat.
Yes, that's the Sharp-shinned Hawk who occasionally thinks the feeders in my yard represent a delicatessen.
I started sneezing today, so I'm okay with foregoing this particular storm in favour of sitting by the fire.
There was a flock of about 20 of them in the trees by my mailbox today. The music they made was glorious!
Yesterday we sent a package off to Ally...
It's a 10' long floor puzzle that is an Alphabet Train; it has an animal with each letter, and one train car per animal. :-)
Plus! My eldest granddaughter is right now on her way to register for Kindergarten! ♥

Ally and Daddy are off to New York on Sunday. Tomorrow we will celebrate Ally's birthday with a cake, some gifts and a visit to a friend's house (mommy and daddy's friend...but whose keeping track? At least they have a brand new baby to entertain Ally!).
Someone from the New York office called. It turns out they are "overbooked" for 3f8 next week. This means Ally is on the afternoon schedule. It should start around noon, instead of 8:00. We are not sure what this will mean, as, in the past Ally would kind of snap out if it around 5 or 6, just in time for dinner. Daddy is confident he will figure it out. Thankfully, Auntie Kelly will be joining him half way through the week!
The injections we have to give Ally are causing her huge welts at the injection site. We have to give her Benadryl every 4 hours to keep them under control. She has been very sleepy the past couple of days. Luckily they are not bothering her too much.
That's about it for now. I will update at some point on Monday or Tuesday.
PS: Ally does not like the word "Awesome", she prefers "Radical".
I see some comments but the Comments Box was quite full, as though someone had tried to respond to the entire thread. And I hadn't done a thing. Weird glitch!
