Our First Significant Snow Squalls

Today, we have had our first real snowfall of the year. None is sticking but a few times, it looked like a snow globe. With the warm temps, it changed to drizzle a few times then back to snow. Once this afternoon it started to accumulate on the bushes but soon melted after the snow shower ceased.

I finally got my bird feeders outdoors and was surprised at how many birds I had already. I guess I figured that since there was no snow that they had plenty of food. . . .but seems that wasn't so. I have had many birds congregating in my trees like in the picture and my woodpeckers have been very happy that I put a suet cake out for them. After a while, they just expect it. I think that they know me. I have to walk up very close before they will fly to a higher branch. Then they'll just sit there and watch until I walk away. A few years ago after the suet cake was gone, one woodpecker kept flying between me and the tree where the suet cake was hanging. He kept it up until I finally got another for him. Spoiled Birds! They have me well trained.

Our temps today only reached the upper 30's and there won't be much improvement over the next few days, at least not where the temps are concerned. We should see quite a bit of sun on Tuesday and that should make it feel a little warmer. We always seem to get a brisk wind on the sunny days which still makes it unpleasant to be outdoors, but I'll just be happy to see the sun again. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
