Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, August 15, 2014

Tropical cyclone development is not anticipated across the Atlantic Basin on Friday, while the tropics will remain active over the eastern Pacific. Tropical Storm Karina is expected to gain strength as it drifts westward over the eastern Pacific. Karina is forecast to be upgraded to a category 1 hurricane, with wind speeds ranging between 74 to 95 mph (64 to 82 kts). This system will be located approximately 900 nautical miles west southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will be located roughly 1,200 nautical miles east southeast of the Big Island of Hawaii. This system will have a medium, 30% chance to develop into a tropical cyclone as it moves westward over the eastern Pacific. Monsoonal moisture will continue to initiate showers and thunderstorms over western, central and southern Mexico. The northeastern corner of the country will stay mostly clear of wet weather. Mexico City can expect afternoon and evening thunderstorms with a high of 74(F)/ 23(C). Cancun will have a chance of thunderstorms around midday with a high of 90(F)/ 32(C).
