GardenGrrl & Shore: Thank you for the Valentine's Day greetings. It looks like I have fallen way behind in my image processing again! With February more than half over, I need to get busy in the next day or two to catch up!

Shore: I have not noticed a moth like the one noted. But, like you said, if it is rather small, it probably flutters through without catching my eye.

The skinny bird in the tree is a wild turkey. Since we are feeding a couple of the horses grain, a large rafter of turkeys has been around the ranch this winter. They are staying skinny in-spite of the grain since the dogs have found great sport in making them fly!

Morning, Dan,

My other "Montana friend" had an amazing photo of a moth native to your area on his site. Have you ever seen one of these? From the various insect sites, I see it's not rare, but it's rarely noticed because it's so tiny, and prefers hiding under bark and such.

I just can't get over those fancy wings! Looks like a "flapper", all fringed up. ;)

I've just enjoyed your new photos, too. The one of the dogs "walking the line" made me laugh, and the horses in snow is just beautiful. But what the dickens is that bird up in the tree? It doesn't look like a hawk - in fact, it looks more like a pheasant. Skinny eagle?

My nursery cats are brother and sister the girl Taz looks like your Scamp 2, her brother is a grey bob tail with the name....... Bobbie.

That's pretty amazing! (Or, maybe our naming conventions are not very unique!)

msmontana: Thank you! The cats are great fun to photograph, but, many shots do not make it through the editing process because often they do not hold still for the photograph!

Yes, the mild winter continues (even well into February as I post this response). There has been some more occasional snow, but still a bit below the seasonal normal, that is for sure!

Loved the cat photos, Dan! You always catch their personalities so well! Am loving the mild winter here this year, but am a little worried about fires this summer.... Hope we do get some more snow soon...

Ginger looks very Montana fashionable with the camo jacket!:)) My son's boxer who was a Florida dog and now a Kodiak, AK dog is now wearing a coat. He wasn't to sure of the snow at first and now thinks it is terrific.

Tinsel is quite striking with the light grey fur and green eyes.

Thank you for the comments. I should also get a little ammunition belt for Ginger's outfit. That would certainly complete the picture!

The gray cats are pretty good looking. They got that from their dad Wherever he went! and most carry some of the Calico from their mom, Hootie. The one that we just don't know where he came from is Scampy II! He looks just like the original ranch cat, Scamp. But Scamp, being "fixed" is not responsible for the coloring! Perhaps the daddy, we called him Bobbie ... but obviously HE was actually ROBERT! Must have somehow carried the black-and-white color gene ... perhaps he was a gray bob cat in a litter that included Scamp's mother! Some gene tracker could probably explain how that color trait works!

I love the second and fourth photos, especially. They're really unusual - which only goes to show that even with as many photos as you've taken, there's always something new to see! (bionicdan note: I'm editing the blog and changing photo positions : Photos of January 22nd?; and January 2nd? -- Can't tell anymore, I added photos in between and might have accidentally deleted a posting. You can edit or re-post which images you meant)

Interesting to see the green foliage by the stump with the snow in the background. I think sometimes we tend to forget that the world transitions into winter, too. Long before there are all those photos of six feet of the white stuff all over everything, there's plenty of time for green-and-white mixes!

I'm slowly getting myself into Flickr, too, and made you a contact over there. It'll give me another way to keep up with your fun, and especially to see things I've missed in the past!

Shore: Yes, exactly, each photo can be quite different even though when I checked my photo count for 2011 it was somewhere around 9,000 images! Many repeats, but always something different in my eye.

The resiliency of the flora and fauna is pretty amazing. When the snow melts away in the spring it reveals the low growing leaves were there all the while, just waiting to see the sun again.

I need to visit some of my other photo links more often, too. I see that I could certainly update the horses and ranch animals albums back there at Flickr. Another place that sometimes gets unique photos is facebook. Although I am not a fan of posting game playing and various chain status postings, I do visit and post there from time to time. Amazingly, most of my people in my "friends" list are actually people I know! (That isn't the case with many facebook users, I expect).
