Cloudy. Light snow flurries during the night. The sun was just around off and and again during the early part of the day and until around noon. Mostly cloudy for the afternoon with some heavy snow falling for a time early in the evening. This is the price we pay for warmer temperatures!

Mostly cloudy with light snow flurries from time to time today. Just a slight look at filtered sunlight, but no real tanning sunshine today.

The clear sky overnight did allow the temperature to find a nice low at around five in the morning. Clouds must have drifted in at that time, and the temperature began to rise. Just a narrow band of clear sky allowed the sunrise to appear, briefly, before the clouds closed the remaining opening. With a slow increase, above zero temperatures are on the way to double digits once again today.

Mostly clear and cold. Sunny day with the temperature managing to get into double digits above zero. It is possible that the clear sky may bring double digit below zero temperatures tonight.

The wind continued to blow overnight and ended up bringing a new four inches or so of snow for this event. It was mostly cloudy, with just some hints of the moon overnight and as the day began some hints of sun also appeared. It continued to be cold through the day today with a single digit value for the high.

The full winter jacket look again today. Cloudy with snow overnight (about two inches) and additional light fine grained snow falling through much of the day. Snow continued to fall and the wind was strong during the last animal check late today.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011
A typical mixed weather day today. So, depending upon your timing, it was either a pleasant, partly sunny day, or a blustery winter day with blowing snow, windy conditions, and cold temperatures. Timing is everything!

Partly cloudy again early in the day. As has often been the winter daily trend, clouds formed during the afternoon just allowing the sun to filter through as a bright circle as it moved across the sky.

Partly cloudy overnight. The sun was able to shine a bit through high clouds this morning and into the early afternoon. By late afternoon, more clouds moved in and the sun disappeared for the day.

Clouds and light snow overnight. Periods of sun, and the snow melted and slid from roofs again. Colder temperatures moved into the area during the late afternoon and early evening.

Thursday, February 17, 2011
Mostly cloudy with a trace of snow overnight. A mix of clouds and sun during the morning was replaced by mostly cloudy conditions around noon. Periods of snowfall took place during periods of sunshine from time to time during the afternoon. A nice assortment of clouds drifted by during the late afternoon.

Cloudy and windy overnight. There was a sun and cloud mix for most of the day and it became mostly clear late in the evening.

Mostly cloudy with filtered sunlight through those clouds. Mild temperatures are resulting in the snow slowly melting. Conditions from yesterday caused a bit of icy footing today. It was windy overnight, but fairly calm during the morning, and then windy again during the afternoon today.

Friday, February 11, 2011
Mostly cloudy during the morning. Some hints of sunshine dropped behind the cloud layer as filtered sun through most of the afternoon and evening. Even though the periods of sunshine were short, the warming air resulted in most of the recent snow again sliding off of the metal roofs of the arena and the barn. It was a bit breezy during the late afternoon and evening.

Mostly cloudy but there were some brief glimpses at the sun during the morning and again off and on during the afternoon. Warmer, (almost mild!) temperatures during the day compared to the cold of the last several days.

Clouds overnight but clear during the middle of the day. Then, there were clouds again for the late afternoon but the sky cleared late in the day showing stars at the time of animal check. I've never figured out if it is good or bad with the ground hog seeing his shadow. Is six weeks more of winter considered good, or bad? I suppose it depends on where you are! And, how about that shadow viewing too. Is there a time period restriction? Or if the sun appears at any time during the day, does that count? Important questions looking for answers!

juslivn: Exactly! I like winter as much as the next person, but, enough already! I would even take a "wimpy winter" next year!

I really like the pic of the horses in the new snow. Very, very nice!!!

Thank you! They sometimes line up nicely for photographs! In just a few weeks, they will be able to have their coats off again. I always look forward to that!

@shore: Yes, it is interesting how the other animals have reacted. When we brought Cinnamon home, I had him in a box on a blanket and with his favorite stuffed bear. I put the box down so the other dogs could see him, sniff around, and maybe understand what had happened. Interestingly enough, his half-sister, Ginger did sniff around the most. Scamp, one of the cats that is often in the house and who has been lying on a pillow with Cinnamon for the last few weeks did not see Cinnamon. And in the time since Cinnamon has gone, is seldom lying on the pillow. A second cat, Vincent, who also spends most days in the house, did lie on the pillow for several hours today.

And yes, no replacement pet will ever be the just like a pet that has passed away. Cinnamon, as it happened, was born on or about the same day our previous dog, Gulliver, had died. I always said Cinnamon carried the spirit of Gulliver back into our lives, but Cinnamon and Gulliver were actually very different from each other. And although Ginger is a half-sister to Cinnamon, she and Cinnamon were very different from each other in how they played and in other ways. Each animal is unique and brings that uniqueness into the life of those who share that life and time together.

Dan,

I'm so sorry to hear about Cinnamon. I know the other dogs will miss him as much as you do.

Calpoppy's right. Each of them is unique and not at all interchangeable. The woman who heads up volunteers at the local animal shelter makes a point of helping volunteers deal gracefully with folks who want to "replace" a beloved pet. As she puts it, we can't replace them, we only honor them by beginning a new relationship with another of their kind.

That's pretty darned insightful.

All: Thank you! Cinnamon was a good pup! He (I know, he had a girls name, kind of like Vivien Thomas) and started with us as a city animal. He became a great ranch animal and enjoyed his life here at the farm. Cinnamon will never be forgotten.
