DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- Authorities say the winner of a roach-eating contest in South Florida died shortly after downing dozens of the live bugs as well as worms. The grand prize in Friday night's contest was a live python.
The Broward County sheriff's office says in a news release that it is waiting for an autopsy to give the official cause of death.
However, the news release Monday says 32-year-old Edward Archbold became ill soon after winning and collapsed in front of the Ben Siegel Reptile Store where the contest was held. The store is in Deerfield Beach about 40 miles north of Miami. Archbold was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say several contestants ate insects but no one else became ill.

Any insect eater will tell you not to eat roaches and worms at the same time. They hate each other !

Sorry I missed your impromptu WU reunion on Sunday! Lately, I've been so busy with chores, appointments and sudden chauffering duties for my hubby and 91 yr old F-I-L that I haven't had the time to sit down or get online.
Nevertheless, don't give up on us remaining Wubers just yet, as time and circumstances are bound to open up and connect us together again sometime in the very near future .... hopefully, before and/or during Halloween! In the meantime, keep the reunion blogsite open, in the weeks ahead, for those current WU laggards like me!
I could have sworn I did post here. Guess I missed the send button!
Nice up that way!!
Will be busy this weekend, but will try to stop by.
Traveling this weekend so can't check in then. Hope all are well.
Did my namesake put a damper on the party spirit?
Perhaps another weekend might be a better idea!
How are ya doing Aubie? Hope all is going well for you and the family....whooooo hoooooo!!!
I think Sandy kinda stole the show this weekend.
I know I didn't remember until I noticed your blog pop up on the list.
Hope you are all doing well and stay safe.
I think your right about Sandy..was just a bad week end..but I love all of the ones that did stop in..thanks!
It's a good idea!
Sandy interfered with it this week-end..we will try again some time..
To be honest, I thought this blog was a throw back to the other one you did a long time ago!! You should have named it pre-Halloween party blog or something so people know its new.
Sandy isn't affecting us at all, of course, we're on the tail end of another heat wave. Hope to see some 70 degrees this week! Hope everyone is well.
WUnderground will always be home!!!
Anyone dressing up for Halloween?
Guess I'm late for the festivities again. Unfortunately, parts of Hurricane Sandy got in the way, but thankfully we made out A-Okay with only a 9 hr power outage, plenty of emergency supplies and outside temps warm enough to keep the interior of home a pleasant 70F without a generator. Wish these back to back pre-Halloween catastrophies (2 yrs in a row) would subside around here, so we could go back to enjoying some of our old fashioned traditions, but the times and climate are a-changin'. Nevertheless, hope you and yours have enjoyed a safe and pleasant Halloween evening at your home! Let's hope the coming months and holidays will be better and more hopeful!
Thought I'd bring back the Halloween Doghouse of yesteryear. ENJOY!
