On Friday, a meteor streaked across the Russian sky and crashed into the ground. Hundreds were injured, mostly by broken glass, according to reports. The Russian Academy of Sciences is estimating the meteor that streaked into the skies over the Ural Mountains and caused shock waves that injured more than 500 people weighed about 10 tons.

Wow! What a way to start your day! I am surprised that some of those drivers did not turn around and start driving in another direction. :)

Angela, thanks for posting!
What an incredible event witnessed by so many... and coincidence, happening within 24 hrs of asteroid 2012 DA14's close approach today.

Just a short matter of time before another Tunguska or similar event happens in wrong place with devastating consequences, considering there are now 7.1 billion of us - a seven-fold increase since 1908.

This meteor was about one third the size of the Tunguska meteor (estimated) and exploded about 5-10 times higher. I can imagine the shock wave across the countryside from the Tunguska event, based on the shockwave yesterday.
