Stykkishólmur is a small village of 1,100 on the western coast of Iceland. Starting as a trading post in 1550, it has spent most of its existence as a fishing village, the main catch being scallops. however, in the past thirty years, it has transformed itself into a tourist destination, and as an environmental leader.

Starting in the 1980s, many old buildings have been renovated and restored to their former glory, and now house various shops and businesses geared toward tourism. Tours for bird watching, sea life, and glaciers and volcanoes start here; or, you can go on your own, and go to Snæfellsjökull National Park, and use the many trails there. Stykkishólmur also features a swimming pool with its geothermally heated water, said to treat skin conditions.

And it has a golf course!

Stykkishólmur also claims the distinction of being the first European town to be certified an Earth Check community. The community, along with the neighboring villages, sort all their waste, pump their used heating water back into the ground, and have began the process of removing invasive vegetation.

Stuff is creeping up on the radar.....

wab, we haven't had as much rain as you, maybe about 4"? Most of our stuff has been hit and miss, instead of organized.

ycd, according to Krk's website, a brass band plays at the plaza. Can't see them, though! :(

Good morning! It was foggy earlier, but the sun has since burned it off! A 40% chance of showers and storms this afternoon. Looks like it'll keep this weather pattern indefinitely, as the forecast is more or less the same for the next week!

Cams look mostly OK; I think one of the Iceland images isn't working, but the other two are! A mixture of sun and clouds elsewhere!

I've ended my research phase for the next blog, and I've come up short uin the Far East region, so I have to find some substitute cams in their place! Not too big a deal, just that not all cams won't fit the theme!

Sandi, I didn't mean the aircraft carrier, I meant a yacht owned by a Kennedy, lol! Apparently, the blackbird doesn't understand the meaning of "Up with the apples!"

Hi, Dave! There's a lot more info if you click the link; I just try to bring some general information. Wouldn't want to put folks to sleep! :' )

No, Ylee, not quite as big as the Kennedy! Lol

All the cams are quiet, except Adelaide, which is full of shoppers.
The only movement in Krk is a cat walking across the square, watching a pigeon on the monument thingy! What is that? A disused fountain, perhaps?
There is that strange orange glow in the sky at Yichang again. It is almost sulphurous!!

And yes, I am awake at 4am - blame a blackbird that sang its morning aria from the top of the apple tree!

Cloudy here now, but no rain, yet. Blobs are all around, but they're not moving much. No telling how much Livermore's getting.

Briar, around here, the usual way to correct another shift's misdeeds is to make a bigger mess for them when they return, if possible. However, I'm not wired like that. The price of being a pro, I guess... ;' )

Half the screen, Sandi? Must've been a Kennedy...... :' )

Rainy at Stykkishólmur.
Foggy at Qingjiang Gallery.
Rainy at Goat Haunt.
Rainy at Martha's Vineyard.
Rainy at Denali.
Rainy here.
But wait! There's sun at the Octagon and at the Feeder, so it's not an entirely gray day.

Briar, the "messes" the previous shift left are not the result of not picking up after themselves, but leaving work for me that they had time to do on their own shift! Perhaps I need to get their fathers to give them a good talking to! :' )
There ya go, Ylee, and even though you're not their father, I'll bet you've got that "give them a good talking to" business down pat. Too bad you can't actually do that, but maybe you can have some fun thinking about it.

Good morning Ylee.
Abbey caught her first gopher of the year yesterday.
She was still on the leash when she spotted the critter. It must have been a young one, a couple of shakes and it was no more.
have a good one while we suck up more rain.

Good morning! Had a couple of days off; can't say I got much accomplished, but things didn't get worse! ;' ) Presently, it's 73 and muggy; chance of showers and storms starting this afternoon, and lingering for the next few days! This weather pattern is making the grass grow to the point I may have to invest in a lot of sheep and goats!

Goat Haunt cam is wonky, just showing the time stamp strip! Lots of clouds and rain elsewhere, Milos and Kuredu being the exception!

Expect a new blog this week!

GG, I was think more of orange day-glo.... :' ) I wonder if the lady with the stroller in Krk would freak out if she knew there was a woman in Texas looking for her when she's in the town squarde? ;' )

Hi, cal! Due to the cold and wet spring, I limited my garden to tomatoes, and squash this year. I have one half-ripened tomato at present! ;' ) You want snow? You really need a trip to the Northern Rockies!

Good morning, Tony! Hope you are able to get out for your walks! It's been raining here just enough to really slow down the outdoor projects!

sandi, I hadn't seen the ferry yet, just sailing ships! Did it look like this?

Hi, wab! Yup, same 'ol, same 'ol, for at least another week!

Oz, I hope you're having a good time at the family reunion! Will England be ready for you and Sandi together? LOL!

Were you able to put in a veggie garden this year? Early harvest year for us as I have already gotten several nice tomatoes! Pesto sounds good tonight!!

Hi Ylee, bambi is heading to the woods and I have realized that deer, bunnies and corgis all have similar backsides. And then I realized the conclusions running through my head might not be considered funny by a lot of people. Oh well. I'm laughing,

Btw " I'll pass on outerwear that can double between a school crossing guard, and going out on the town, lol!" Is that the outfit that could be Bootsy Collins rainwear or on some people a baked potato?

So, if bad comes in 3s, the most you should have is one more before smooth sailing??

At least you are getting some rain - though the muggies is not quite so good ;P

Good morning! Things are about as messed up as the other night; fortunately, I've done all I can do, so here I am! :' ) Muggy day forecast, with a chance of showers and storms, temps in the low 90s. Potentially wet period for the next couple of days.

Cams look great this morning, particularly Denali! Cow at the feeder!

Your weather is similar to ours, bug! We're getting just enough rain, in addition to the heat, to make the grass grow like crazy! At least I don't have to water the tomatoes!

Even though I live only a few miles from the Ohio River, boating never grew on me, ycd! I've always liked being aon a boat the few times that I've been on one, just preferred driving a car for recreation!

Briar, the "messes" the previous shift left are not the result of not picking up after themselves, but leaving work for me that they had time to do on their own shift! Perhaps I need to get their fathers to give them a good talking to! :' )

Quoting 90. sandiquiz:

Krk is empty except for a car sitting washing itself!!
I also got to see Dunedin in daylight, just.... But I've worked out why it always seemed dark..it is a black and white cam!! Lol
Hope today at work is better than yesterday.

Lightning McQueen, perhaps? :' ) Was it raining there? Maybe it's early, and I'm a bit dense, but I don't get it!

Refresh the page for the latest from Dunedin, Sandi! Trust me, it's not a black and white cam! :' )

The fact that I'm here this early means it's already better, GG! I'll pass on outerwear that can double between a school crossing guard, and going out on the town, lol!

Sorry that last night sucked for you. You oughtta tell the other shift that they need to pick up after themselves, cuz their mommy doesn't work here. At least that's what I used to hear people say to their messy co-workers.

Did you ever spend much time on wind powered craft?
Yes I have but never as captain.
Dad built a couple of small sailing Catamarans (about 20' LOA) when I was a kid - he knew a bit about sail but it did not take on me. Had some good times on those boats.
Built - with his help - my first speedboat at 14 years old:

Have a good rest-up, Ylee. I hate workdays like that.

Stykkishólmur is very blue at the moment. Both the water and sky. Nice.

We got a bit of rain yesterday. A little lightning and thunder. It didn't last long and we only got about 1/3 inch of rain. We might get some more this week; the forecast is for about 30% every day.

It drops the temps a bit but, boy, is it muggy out there.

Well, I made it. Last night how do I put it delicately? Sucked. Combination of extra work, plus the previous shift's mess, made for a long night. :P I'm ready for a hot shower, and a cool bed!

Lots a sunshine on the cams, with a couple of deer at the feeder!

Nice poem, Pros! Rest would be nice! So would idleness! :' )

Glad you got to see some action at the dock, ycd! Did you ever spend much time on wind powered craft?

I forgot to take account of the wind, oz! Wind off cold water always makes it worse!

Denali is still the same, GG! I'm just happy it's still working. That cam historically has not been reliable!

Well, now that I finally made it here, it's about time to go home! Be back tomorrow!
