Stykkishólmur is a small village of 1,100 on the western coast of Iceland. Starting as a trading post in 1550, it has spent most of its existence as a fishing village, the main catch being scallops. however, in the past thirty years, it has transformed itself into a tourist destination, and as an environmental leader.

Starting in the 1980s, many old buildings have been renovated and restored to their former glory, and now house various shops and businesses geared toward tourism. Tours for bird watching, sea life, and glaciers and volcanoes start here; or, you can go on your own, and go to Snæfellsjökull National Park, and use the many trails there. Stykkishólmur also features a swimming pool with its geothermally heated water, said to treat skin conditions.

And it has a golf course!

Stykkishólmur also claims the distinction of being the first European town to be certified an Earth Check community. The community, along with the neighboring villages, sort all their waste, pump their used heating water back into the ground, and have began the process of removing invasive vegetation.

Hi Ylee, well it is winter, if there is a wind it will be straight off the Antarctic and biting but still many Adeladians will feel cold at that for sure (of course there are also those who have brought winter coats then need to wear them)!!!!!! lol

There is a "Travel Lift" on the dock at Martha's Vineyard.
Looks like they are getting ready to pick up a boat.

@Maria photo 075jsummer_zpsdff0f3bd.jpg

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.

Big party in Dunedin, perhaps? Sandi, don't they shut down roundabouts in MK for civic events? :' )

Dunedin is 12 hrs. ahead of GMT, so with the short days down there, I can see why it's always dark for you! If the time stamp in the center bottom of the cam isn't GMT+12, then refresh this page!

Good evening! Had a nice little storm blow through a couple of hours ago; lots of wind, rain, and a little bit of lightning! Very muggy at the moment, but since the sun's gone down, it's not too bad!

Cams all look OK; Nice evening in Martha's Vineyard and in Goat Haunt! Market's busy in Adelaide, not so in Krk!

Hi, Bogon! Maybe 61 is cold to Adelaideans? We'll have to ask Oz!

Hi, Sandi! I guess there's no World Cup matches being played at that time! :' )

Good to see you again, Trauma! Still working the night shift, I see!

Hi, Tony! Hope you had a nice day today!

WTS, I hope you copy/pasted Stykkishólmur, like I just did! :' )

Good to see you're getting along well, oz! Is 61F in Adelaide chilly to most natives?

Cal, the benefits of a hot shower and clean clothes can not be understated, particularly in summer! :' )

Hi Ylee, survived the Metro, made it to Sacre Coeur and Montmatre, one last visit to Boulangerie (raisin bread and tart citron) and on to the Eurostar and under the Channel. Very impressed with the train, smooth, clean and on time. Now at Lowestoft in East Anglia and the sun is shining!

Could the party in Krk be the fact their team beat Cameroon 4 -0 last night, in the World cup!!

Good morning! Another sunny, hot and muggy day in store for us, coditions are about the same as yesterday! Maybe a chance of a popup storm later in the afternoon.

Cams are showing lots of clouds, with Milos, Krk, and the feeder being the exceptions. Snow in the tops of the mountains at Goat Haunt!

Still partying in Krk, Briar! Maybe it's a holiday?

There's a big hoopla happening at the Vela Placa cam. Wonder what they are up to? It's 11:50pm there. Don't they have to get up early and go to work tomorrow?

Good morning! Another very warm day in the Bluegrass; Owensboro presently has a temp of 89, with a heat index of 96. Of course here in the plant, you can add about 15 degrees to the ambient outside temp to get what it is inside! :P Fortunately, the AC in the Shack is working well!

Cams all seem to be doing well; a mixture of sun and clouds, with Martha's Vineyard and Puchberg looking particularly nice today! Clouds up north.

Mornin', Todd!

Hi, WTS! It was a good morning for me; I was sleeping under air-conditioned comfort! ;' )

wab, I wonder of the air at Yichang is actually foggy, or is it pollution? Or bad camera optics? Can't tell, but it looks interesting! Good to see tourists in Milos!

Posting from Paris, oz? Cool! I'd probably go see Outer Harbor(and wave at the cam), and play with the dogs! :' )

Good one, Reno! Sounds like something our Sandiquiz could've done! :' )

Where there's a will, there's a way, Sandi! Never been in a Starbucks, so I couldn't pass judgement on how hard they work, or what hours they keep!

Good Morning. Hope you get some rest on your days off. There are three big deer at the feeder. They all look like they have been eating well so maybe that is why we are not seeing so many lately.

Good evening! This is my last night shift! Five nights in a row is tiring! We had our first day above 90 today; hopefully, they will remain as rare the rest of the summer as they have so far!

cams all are working; cute kids at the Adelaide market, two deer, lots of clouds elsewhere. The fog or whatever is finally lifting at Yichang.

Might be able to do some more work on Ch.#4 I think I may be halfway done with it.

Hi, Tony! Hope you got to go out with Abbey today!

Your right about the rain, we had 1.6 inches in the last 24 hours.

Nice sunrise over Goat Haunt!

I almost got to the point where I stopped last night. It's not exactly the same as before, as I changed some things in it, and I think it's better! ;' )

GG, Sandi: I do have a memory stick that I save my writing on. I wouldn't dare save anything on any version of the Glitchamatic, as they could die anytime, and I'd be toast for sure! I usually do make sure the file is saved properly by checking the update time in Windows Explorer, then clicking the file to see if whst I wrote that day is there. Last night, I saw Word save the file(or so I thought), and since I was in a bit of a hurry, left it at that without checking. I guess that's what I get!

My progress is saved for sure this time!

Time to go home! Be back tonight!
Member Since: February 3, 2011 Posts: 98 Comments: 16617
Oh, no... you poor soul!

I thought you had your memory stick? Was it that that didn't save it for you?

And here is "Your Grandma teaching you to suck eggs" .... remember to double check the saved "second version" before you log off!!

I'll second that AAAARRRRRGFHHH! That is really frustrating. Like I'm one to talk about backing up important files in a timely manner.... But in the do as I say not as I do department, keep a pocket flash drive and back up to that after you finish a chapter. Then we can hear ARRRGHHH I washed it!

Happy Father's Day, Ylee.

Bummer that you have to work but sometimes that's what it takes.

Nothing going on much on the cams. Some are dark or there's just a few people out and about on the others.
