Shinkyo, or "the sacred bridge", is known as one of the three most beautiful bridges in Japan. Lacquered in vermilion and black, and decorated on top of its' pillars, the bridge crosses the Daiya river. Historically, it was the path for imperial generals and messengers to the Futarasan shrine, a Shinto shrine that is part of the Nikko sanctuary. A UNESCO Heritage Site, the bridge remained off limits to the general public until 1973. Since then, it has gone through several renovations, and now tourists can cross it for a fee of 300 yen.

It is not known when the original bridge was built. From wikipedia: "According to legend, a priest named Shōdō and his followers climbed Mt. Nantai in the year 766 to pray for national prosperity. However, they could not cross the fast flowing Daiya River. Shōdō prayed and a 10 foot tall god named Jinja-Daiou appeared with two snakes twisted around his right arm. Jinja-Daiou released the blue and red snakes and they transformed themselves into a rainbow-like bridge covered with sedge, which Shōdō and his followers could use to cross the river. That is why this bridge is sometimes called Yamasugeno-jabashi, which means the "Snake Bridge of Sedge".

Earliest records show a bridge here was being used in 1486. Originally a drawbridge, Shinkyo became fixed, with stone piers, in 1636. It first was decorated in 1792. During a 1902 repair, the bridge was washed away. However, the bridge was rebuilt as it was in 1904.

Awww mama or papa stork is being babies umbrella :D

Commodore 64, oh dear, you are going to have to dig out the DOS family tree.

I wonder if 50 years from now if there will be a fairly common school course called "Early Computer Language" that will do the basics of DOS, html etc as a prerequisite to "common programming" that all school kids will be required to know.

Oh, dear, I did laugh when I saw your next computer might be a Commodore 64!!
I remember using those with the kids way back in the mid 80's.... Oh, boy, it was the latest gadget then, and we thought it was GREAT! Looking back, it was nearer to the "Colossus" than it is to the latest smart phone!

I am beginning a 'Creative programming' course next week for six weeks, although there is no specified finish date, and you can take twice that long if you wish. Once complete you can apply for a presentation certificate to add to your CPD - "Continuing Professional Development"! Think my career has developed far enough!!
I am only doing it to keep my mind active and also to be useful, maybe, when I am editing photos.

Good evening! Warm and humid today, with scattered showers about, with a little thunder! Some stuff on the radar presently, but it seems to be dissipating.

Cams seem to be doing OK; the Lofoten is outside of Trondheim, presently. One coon, sunshine in Japan, cloudy most everywhere else!

A new blog either tonight or tomorrow night!

GG, I think the stork was the papa, as it looked a lot bigger than the mama!

WTS, they replaced Glitchy 1 with an older, slower computer, so I'm kinda concerned what they would bring me if this one died. A Commodore 64? :' )

Squirrels in the tree are pretty rare, oz! Looks cloudy your way today!

Coon must've run it off, wab! :' )

Good Morning. Two Storks! That had to have been cool. Have only seen Mama stork so far. She sure does like to preen the baby.
Hope today is better than yesterday for you. Shame we can't use the rubber hammer field adjustment on our computers.

Good morning to you all! For me, not so much! :P Walked into a huge mess that'll take hours to clean up! :(( Anyways, it's going to be warm and humid today; temps are forecast to be in the upper 80s, and I wouldn't be surprised if we had a little heat index action later!

Cams are all doing well; the Lofoten is presently near Stokmarknes, about 3/4 the way up the coast of Norway, headed south. Perfect afternoon in Milos, with the little boat out in the harbor, beckoning me! If I could, I would be soooooo gone!

Hi again, cal! :' )

GG, as you can probably guess, I have a lot of material to work with in creating those two, particularly Ralph! :' )

Sandi, if you are going to go that far, you might as well have Patrick Stewart be your gardener! :' )

A tornado is definitely something I don't wan't to see through your cam, Tony! :' )

Two squirrels and three does at the feeder, and it is raining in Panama!

Yeah, but the pharmacy isn't open that early. Which is what I need to hit today.

Boy, the Canal has been busy this morning. I've seen at least 4, maybe 5 ships going thru.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ylee! Walmart People are the LAST thing I need to see here!

It blows my mind that so many people apparently don't care what they look like in public. Or even worse, think they look fabulous. shudder...... Every time I think I've seen it all, someone emails me more.

I thank my lucky stars that I've never run into any of them in my local Wally World. Or maybe they only come out after midnight, when I'm safely in bed!

Morning, Ylee.

Crows at the feeder cam and the Vega Aquarius coming through the lock. The stork chick is getting big. I think the other egg (or eggs - I KNOW I saw two yesterday) must not be viable. They should have hatched by now.

You're nice and cool this morning. We're already up to 77F. The humidity is getting up there, too. Oh, joy.

ADD: Dear God, no. Not Walmart People!

Good morning! Cloudy day so far, with scattered showers on the radar headed this way! Supposed to be in the low 80s today!

Cams are offering mostly cloudy skies, although Sant'Antonio has beautiful blue skies! The Lofoten is almost to
Øksfjord, headed south!

Probably a new blog before the week is out!

Tony, as long as the flowers are growing and blooming, I'm happy! :' )

Oz, enjoy your rain! We maight get some today, as well!

GG, I thought for a minute that a Wal-Mart cam would be cool, but that might violate the aesthetics of this blog! :' )

Busy day today! It would've been a nice day to be off; I don't think it hit 80!

Sunny day in Japan, with clouds in Adelaide. Water volume's really dropped at Yosemite falls!

Bug, I only saw one egg, but the chick has been hatched for over a week, so I'm not holding my breath with the eggs! :(

Briar, I generally hated those years, so that's why I surprised myself. Maybe a second chance, in some weird way? Who knows? :' )

It's got to be after dark at the Stork Cam right now, but it has a great overnight image of momma and baby.

The weather at Dungeness is not much different than here. Cloudy. Not raining. But our clouds are higher than theirs. Don't laugh. It does make a difference.

Lots of raindrops on the Lofoten cam's lens.

Over at Raca Baka, in a comment, you seemed to be apologizing for writing a coming-of-age story. Don't! Some of the best stories and movies are about the challenges of surviving the teenage years. A wonderful movie I recently saw on TV comes to mind, with Steve Carell as a bad guy, no less. Watch "The Way Way Back" when you get the chance. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1727388/

Hi, Ylee.

There's a horde of limb rats at the feeder cam. I don't think I've ever seen that many.

I see two unhatched eggs and one large chick in the stork nest. I wonder if those eggs are viable or not? It seems like they'd all hatch around the same time but I don't know that much about storks.

Good morning! A perfect morning, weather-wise, forecast to be a perfect day, sunny and 78!

Cams are all working properly; The Lofoten is experiencing rain, and is between Vardo and Vadso, on the way back to Bergen! A small gathering at the basilica, another nice day in Milos, and one ruffled stork, drying to keep dry, I guess!

The same goes for harvest time too, wab, as you well know!

Sandi, maybe you'll get some nice weather soon; it's finally our turn, I'm happy to say!

Good morning! Had a little thunder last last night, but no rain to speak of; very nice morning, on the way to a high of 80 today.

Cams all look good, with lots of clouds on most of them; Yosemite and Milos are sunny, though. The Lofoten is at the very top of Norway at the moment. Stork chick looks good, but I think the egg is a done deal, unfortunately!

GG, Chapter three is up and posted; I hope you can get your glasses soon, so you can read it! Stork chick loooks good; it's starting to grow some real feathers!

Wab, I hope it's cooled off for you by now! Pretty nice here now!

Hi, Tony! Hope you're having a good morning!

WTS, you also have an excellent chance tose the stork cam before you go to bed, as they are about nine hours ahead of you!

Hi Ylee, am waitiing for my new glasses to show up so I can read a bit better. My old (present ones or making me dizzy. The prescription is bad and then I got a chip in the corner that makes things get a bit wonkier. Am typing without glasses right now. and have the ctrl + up pretty high.
Would be kind of interesting to try this on the tablet with auto-correct and see what happens. So, gonna be a interesting day or two. Glad I am off work. The vertigo has kind of come back and I suspect it is from the wonky glasses. It gets much worse when I wear them.
I have promised not to cook anything. lol Wait. this is a good thing. We either order pizza or eat out.. So glad I learned how to typ mostly by feel. Anywho, will be back around when the vertigo lifts or my new glasses get here.
