Melange is a word of French origin that means a mixture or a blend of things. Potpourri is another word of similar meaning and origin, but I personally like melange better! :) Anyway, I try to keep many different types of webcams on the blog; landscapes, seascapes, cities, farms, and various kinds of wildlife, from all over the world.

Most of us here on WU that create their own blogs do so not only for their self-satisfaction, but for the visitors and lurkers that stop by. If it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't to a blog, as I could simply bookmark a cam I like, and visit it whenever I wished. If I did this blog for myself, the cams would have a lot more soaring vistas, and fewer cams of animals and cities. But folks like critters, and folks like people, and folks like stuff happening, so those cams are searched for and placed in the blog!

Hi Ylee. What a great bunch of cams to watch this hurricane make its way up the coast. I will see if I can find something with NYC. Some are saying that the subway system could flood there from this storm. One does not really know what these storms can bring but they usually leave some damage in their wake.

Been chilled to the bone today so will be making it an early night. Hope I am not coming down with a cold.

Have a safe one dear friend. Keep warm too.

Most of the Cams are dark or don't show but I will be watching. Our weather is just wet and cool tonight. Bit of wind and rain. Gotta pick the young folks off the small island on Monday so that is the weather I'm interested in.
Well, that and Sandy of course.

Well, let's see how this works out! It's been a long time since I had a blog that only has one visible cam at night! The plan is once Sandy does her thing, I'll put the old blog back up until I replace the whole thing with a new blog in a little over a week!

Alley, there is a cam in NJ that shows NYC, but it wouldn't load on the old junker! :( Of course, there are the streaming Earthcams of NY Harbor, and ofthe Statue of Liberty!

Hope you stay well and warm!

ycd, I kept the Bangkok cam since it brought you back good memories! There's a blogger with the handle Corfu that has vacation rentals there; he posts every once in awhile.

Your friend has an adventurous spirit to go camping in this weather!

Janet,(from the last blog) hope nothing gets damaged by mean 'ol Sandy! This whole week is supposed to be a cold one for us here; maybe it won't last as long for you!

Well here I sit, waiting for daylight, so I can see the cams at 3:30 AM...yup went to bed at 9PM and this is what happens. What a time to be bright eyed and bushy tailed cause I know by 10 AM I will be needing a nap...LOL

Finally had to turn the heat up one turn to take the chill away. I guess just too much dampness. Will see if I can find some MOT cams of NYC that may work on here. Those usually can handle a decent blow before going out.

Have a good one Ylee, get your rest, stay warm and stay well.

The other Sandi checking in - the one who hasn't been eating beans!
The only cam I can see is Maryland, and it looks wild and wet under the street lights!

16 hour shift! Enjoy a good sleep!!!

Thank you Ylee. It is a scary outlook. I will check these cams for as long as I can, I am sure that we will lose electricity sooner or later. Usually we lose it as soon as the wind gets a wee bit strong.

I must say, I have never witnessed so many states acting so earnestly in the preparations for dangerous weather. That's good.

Wall Street is claiming that they will stay open tomorrow, I guess they have other remote locations that they can trade from if Wall Street gets flooded. But I think they are both on the east coast!

I wish I could send all on the East coast our weather, sunny and mild!!!

Good evening! We're having the beginnings of a chilly night here; Should be in the low 30s by morning! We're also under a wind advisory, as the stong high pressure to the west is butting up against Sandy to the east! Forecast winds of up to 40 mph! Not complaining though!

Having trouble loading the Ocean City Md., cam; it may be my computer, or heavy traffic on their server, I'm not sure. All the other cams are dark except the Bangkok cam, which is showing a lot of boat traffic on their Monday morning!

Alley, I watched the streaming Earthcam of New York Harbor, and didn't see much in the order of swells!

I could use a nap, myself! :)

Hi, Sandi! I have! Oy! :)

Hi, GG! This storm will surely put the utility companies to the test! I'm sure our local co-op are already gathering resources to head to the NE to pitch in!

ycd, I'm sure high tide will be quite unwelcome there the next couple of days! :(

Hi, Trauma! You're doing the 16 thing, too? I've done that four times in the past week, myself!

Pros, I hope you're spared from any electricity outage! I have seen such skies before, usually after storms have passed!

Take care!

Cal, I hope they clear all the homeless out of the tunnels in NYC; they could easily drown if the storm surge is as bad as forecast!

Not us here in W. Ky., just a lot of wind, 25 gusting to 40. Straight out of the north, so it will be a cold one!

Most of the frozen stuff showing on the radar above is up in the air, although one town in the mountains of West Virginia is getting some mixed precip!

The four most recently updated blogs are Doc's, Blizz's, mine, and Levi's; why does that Sesame Street song One of these things doesn't belong pop into my head? :)

Yup, The Bangkok and the feeder cam will have to do in a pinch, Trauma! :)

Good morning, Sandi! Actually, I posted this info the other day, but replaced that blog with the FrankenSandy blog the same day, I think!

It's technically my Thursday... :)

Great blog, Ylee. It couldn't be more on target with the weather news, and a whole lot easier to understand than those colorful fingerpaint-map-swirls.

Definitely stormy at Brigantine Beach. OnTheBeach.cam at Ocean City NJ looks to have some storm surge making it's way over a berm and into a parking area. Frankenstorm for sure. Here's hoping it doesn't create too much mayhem for folks on the eastern seaboard.

Hi, Briar! I'm glad you like it, though it looks like most of the cams have been shut down! Might have to bring the last blog back Wednesday to fill in until I can get an all new one early next week!

Feeder cam remains down; hope everything is OK with those folks!

The cams opertional at the moment are the two West Virginia cams and the Thai cam! Looks like Sandy did a number on the rest of them! :(

Hey, Ylee! I'm sitting in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas and I just heard the dreaded snow word joined with Kentucky! There's been 14" in some parts of West Virginia - my goodness.

My trip's been fine, but I guess I'd better start heading south tomorrow. I'm not ready to stop vacationing, but I'm almost to the point where, if I have to go home, I want to do it! LOL

have a good evening - don't let any nasty weather into your state!

New York City is a mess, flooding is the biggest concern right now. Atlantic City and Ocean City are flooded. NYSE is under 3ft of water on their trading floor. Finally those boys will get their day off. Subway is flooding...truly a mess. Some areas have 9 inches of snow already with more due before this storm subsides some. Here we are only getting a little wind and some occasional heavier gusts with drizzle. Much of what we have been getting all day.

Cleanup along the East Coast is going to be bad. So sad we lost the beautiful Bounty to Sandy today off the coast of NC. Captain still missing and his mate was later found but could not be resusitated. Fourteen others were saved by valiant rescuers.

Prayers for all who are feeling the wrath of this storm in her many forms.

Ylee, pls be careful going home in the AM. Roads could be bad in your area. Thinking of you and yours.

Hi, Shore! Hope you're having a good time! I wouldn't worry too much about bad weather in your neck of the woods; Sandy's got that high pressure stopped over the top of us, keeping foul weather at bay! We're not supposed to get rain until Sunday, at the earliest!

Eastern Ky. may be getting some snow in the higher elevaions, but I'm about 250 miles away from that action! :)

Alley, thanks for the update! What was the capt. of the Bounty thinking by tempting a hurricane?

Roads are high and dry here, and will be so for the next few days! Sandy is only giving us a litte wind, nothing more!

Morning Ylee,
Alley said it right - this thing is a mess!

Images on the BBC news here this morning are heart breaking.
Goodness knows how long it will take to clean up and recover. I do know after our floods of 2007 it took eighteen months to get back to normal in Sheffield!

I have no idea Ylee, why the Bounty set sail when she did because they knew the storm was coming up the coast. They were on their way to Florida. I am sure they could have stayed in safe harbor rather than set out for that fateful trip. Wonder who gave the order for that? Law suits I am sure will prevail. That is going to be one big salvage deal for the company who can raise her. So sorry life had to loss to prove you can't sail a tall ship through a hurricane.

Good morning! Chilly but sunny day so far, with temps in the low 30s, with a brisk wind! Supposed to warm up later in the week, with a chance of rain by the weekend!

Brought back the melange redeux blog; most of the cams in the FrankenSandy blog were inoperative, anyway! Will start on the new blog Saturday!

Milos is still down; I remain hopeful they will get that cam back online soon, so it can come back to the blog where it belongs!

Hi, Tony!

Hi, Alley! All we got from Sandy was some clouds! Glad you were spared!

Trauma, enjoy your time off!

Hi, Janet!

Hi, Sandi! Hopefully people there can get their lives in order, in short order!

GG, Happy Halloween! Can't see the graphic though, even in Glitch mode! :(

Happy Halloween, Ylee!

Mom says she got six or eight inches of snow at her house. The storm has almost ended in North Carolina. Only the northwestern corner still has snow falling. The whole state has cooler weather today as a result of flow around the backside of Sandy's circulation. Jack Frost may visit Friday morning!
