To put it short and sweet, I had an all new blog almost finished early yesterday, when I accidentaly deleted it. Now, using a different computer without having a list of any of the cams I saved on my regular computer, I must find the new cams by memory and try to get this blog done by 7AM local!

The new blog will have to be done in two stages: first stage will be downstairs on my regular computer; the rest will be done from the supervisors' computer upstairs!

Evenin' Ylee:
I'm back. I'll maunder on on my place about the road trip. My younger daughter had our fine first grand daughter when mom was 17. She did not wish to marry the father and considered adopting out. We went along but once the girl was born it came to all of us - we do not give up grand children!
Dat's what I think.
The cams so far have been great and I look forward to whatever views we get. Should be some funny ones on Drive BC today since the "Sea To Sky" got snow. It's pretty dark now here.

Good evening! Last night here, possibly until Wednesday! :( Weather is turning more seasonal, with temps dropping down in the upper 20s tonight. I saw the moon, Jupiter and Venus lined up on the way to work(as well as three deer that didn't want to get out of the road!). Tomorrow night, the moon should be between the two planets, so that should be a fine sight!

The cams are doing OK; My gut is telling me that this group of cams is lacking in the "wow" factor, so I'm probably going to put up a new blog tonight! I already have six cams picked out, so it shouldn't be too bad! Time allowing, I may add a new feature to the blog and see how that turns out!

Sandi, my mom is 64, as she was married at 16, and had me at 17, so what do you think? :)

Good morning Ylee. Just woke up to a little surprise. Yup you guessed it...Michigan sent us a little bit of their "white stuff", the Stinkers...wish they would have kept it on their side of the border...LOL We got about an inch so that should melt quickly today as it warms up. Guess February is not done with us yet.

Have yourself a safe and happy Friday dear one.

A beautiful morning in Milos - not a cloud in the sky..... well maybe a little one now!
Honestly, there were no clouds when I looked, but by the time I had read through the latest posts some had rolled in!

Do you know, if I wasn't so nosy I could get through blogland much quicker!
I have to stop and read what others have written, and some days I get so engrossed I forget to write my own comment!! lol

I watched a huge flock of redwinged blackbirds in a marina last week, mixed in with a flock of grackels. I wouldn't have noticed them except for their song - they were common in Iowa, of course, along with the meadowlarks. Both of those birds are favorites, along with the robins. But they're midwestern birds, not Texans. They just migrate through, and we wave as they pass by.

I did mess a little with the photo, but not much. Because of the fog, I sharpened it just a little, saturated the color a bit, toned down the bright sky and took out a camera reflection that cut through the whole picture. Then I slapped a frame on it and said, "That's pretty!" I was glad I stopped by to catch it at just the right time!

ADD: I forgot. I thought you might get a kick out of this local AP news story.

By Associated Press, Updated: Thursday, February 23, 8:53 PM

DEER PARK, Texas A sting operation by a suburban Houston police department netted one of their own when surveillance cameras caught an officer repeatedly stealing colleagues' food and drinks from the refrigerator in the station's break room.

Deer Park police Officer Kevin Yang was charged with misdemeanor theft and suspended for 30 days without pay. Deer Park Police Chief Greg Griggs tells KTRK-TV of Houston that a class C misdemeanor conviction would not keep Yang from returning to duty.

Griggs says he authorized the video sting because the thefts have been going on for too long. Even though the items being stolen may be of trivial value, Griggs says theft is theft.

Yang tells KTRK that he was merely taking it upon himself to keep the shared refrigerator clean.

Good evening! I'm tired! Been up since 6:30AM, now I get to work 12 hours! Yippee!

Thought we were going to get some storms today, but they never materialized here! made it up to 72! It's hard to believe that daffodils are blooming already, and mosquitos are buzzing about! I also saw a flock of about 50 redwing blackbirds! Never saw more than five or six at a time, ever! It was beautiful to watch them take off!

Lost Coast cam looks nice, even though it's been almost an hour since it last updated! I don't expect to do a new blog tonight, or even go scouting for new cams. My only goal on the blogs tonight is to go say hi to everyone! :)

Hi, Trauma! My dad was the biggest influence on my early financial attitude; he never saw a loan he didn't like! Two bankruptcies later, my father has enough pension and SS to live comfortably, but not much else for extra stuff.

Hey, Tony, you're not the only one who wonders if it's trash day or not, and then guesses wrong, lol!

Evenin', Todd!

Hi, Alley! it was a really nice day here! I just wish I had time to slow down and enjoy it!

Dude I had my teaching moment years ago....Tough to go through but eventually made my life much better. My granddaddy always said...if you dont have enough money, then you can't afford it!! Amazing how long it took for that simple axiom to sink in for me!

Hey, Trauma! probably won't be this year! Sorry! :(

Teaching moment for me too, Briar! There's still a stubborn streak in me that if work picks up considerably in the next few months, then perhaps a 3-4 day trip would be in order. IF.
Actually, I've come a long way from about 7-8 years ago. "Old me" would have whipped out the ol' credit card, and away we would go. About 5 years ago I put down all our monthly bills on a calendar, and frankly, I was shocked. Except for using a Lowes card when I was laid off to buy supplies for an emergency bathroom remodel, I never used a credit card again.

Nicely done, Shore! Did you do anything to it besides adding a frame to it? Looks a lot better than normal! As for something popping up, if it did, I wouldn't be surprised. Seems like a lot of stuff that happens wouldn't have been imagined only a few months before! We'll see!

You probably figured that I stayed over an extra 4 tonight. Every little bit helps! :)

Evening, Ylee,

Gosh. Sorry to hear about all the "re-arrangements" that are taking place. But, BriarCraft is exactly right - this is a wonderful teaching moment. I still remember the year that I wanted to go on a certain trip in junior high. My folks said, "We've already had our vacation, and spent our vacation money. But, if you want to do this, and will be willing to save for it, we'll match whatever you save and we'll make the trip."

As I recall it wasn't all that much - gas money, motel and food, etc. But my goodness - I babysat my heart out, and cut grass and did who knows what all, and we went on the trip to a museum I wanted to see in a corner of Iowa. But I learned a little something about deferring pleasure - never one of my favorite things to do!

It will work out. There may be something else that pops up that will appeal to all of you even more.

Speaking of appealing, I thought I'd capture of bit of the Lost Coast for you tonight. It was just beautiful.

Ylee, you have a golden opportunity to turn this into a teaching moment. So your kids will grow up knowing you're not perfect; they will learn you are human, that you have integrity, and are man enough to learn from your mistakes. They will learn something about planning for tomorrow, too. Could be worse. Could be a lot worse.

Now go make some memories with Dad that your kids will treasure!

Thanks, everybody, for your concerns and thoughts. To tell the truth, most of this is because of my own stupidity. last year, OT was off the charts, and money flowed like water. Long story short, I blew most of it. Didn't pay off credit cards, didn't save, very little of what I would call responsible. I should have known better, as I was laid of for almost a year in '09-'10, and things here are very cyclic. I'm not in any danger of losing my job, but most of my income comes from OT, and with most of that gone, we can pay the bills, but not much else.
The thing that sticks in my craw is that twice in the past four months, I've made big promises to the kids, and twice, I've had to let them down. I want them to have a dad whose word is gold, not like that of some of my in-laws that just says whatever to make the kids shut up. If I was smarter with my money last year, then all of this could have been avoided and the money would have been a non-issue.
The last trip we had was in '08, and I wanted to do something with them before they grew up and went on their own.

Anyway, for a much lesser price, I can get season tickets to the local amusement park, and they can go there as much as they want all summer. They'll have a great time over there; it's just not the Smokies.

Maybe in 2013......:)

Ylee, I agree with Briarcraft...Memories are made of simple things that are shared as a family. You live in a pretty part of the country so why not go fishing and camping along one of your lakes nearby. A bonfire, roasting marshmallows, telling ghost stories and scaring the bejezzus out of the kids during the night pretending to be a big bear is more fun than spending a whole lot of money. Go play at being Davey Crockett with the kids...just go and have fun....

Anyway dear one, hope the economy turns around enough that work will not be an added worry. Thinking of you, keep smiling....

Too bad about canceling your vacation plans, but you can still have fun with the kids anyway. Disappointing.

Just the other day, I reminded my dad about how much fun I had with him 50+ years ago with him playing the Jew's harp, singing crazy songs, and Buck dancing. He got all teary-eyed in a good way. The best memories came from times when we didn't have much money.

You can make some fun memories for your kids to remind you of 50 years from now. You know little kids enjoy the box more than the gift that came in it. Kids of any age will remember the special times with Dad that didn't cost much, a lot more than they'll remember the fancy, expensive trip. So buy you a new Jew's harp. Or teach them woodworking. Or go down the road to a county park and make s'mores and tell ghost stories.

Fun is where you make it.

You are not getting senile ... and if you are, so am I!!
I thought I had posted in your blog, but there is no sign!

I am sorry about the job situation, but I think you are wise. You would only make yourself ill worrying about the cost of it, if your situation became tenuous. But the news coming out of the UK is that the recession has bottomed out - house prices are beginning to rise, unemployment numbers are falling and the inflation rate has dropped.... so fingers crossed this is not a blip and things really are getting better!

That's too bad man!

Angie and I have been taking long weekends several times a year lately instead of a regular vacation. She has a lot of time built up but has so much responsibility that it's hard for her to get away. Then there is the part about the economy...don't know what's around the corner so we're trying to stay debt free and stash some cash away.

Well, I canceled my week of vacation that I was taking the kids to the Smokies. Things are unsettled at work for the foreseeable future, and I don't see paying $4K on something when I'm not sure the money will be there this summer like it normally is. If things are humming along, I may take a three day trip, but that's about it.

Hi Ylee...looks like we missed the worse of that wee storm system that went through. Had about an hour of rain/snow then it was all gone...poof!!! Remained overcast with a bit of a wind but nothing bad.

The dampness did play havoc with my back so I got to lay down with my trusty heating pad for a while. That sure helped.

Anyway dear one take care and have a great evening. Big hugs to you and your family.

Good morning! Busy, busy, busy! Cams look well, although varying clouds seem to be the order of the day! Castleton cam has snow-covered peaks past thered rock formations, a feature I've not noticed before!

Hi, Trauma! See you're back at the grind again! Don't work too hard!

GG, have you ever tried just painting with good primer and good paint over the vinyl wallpaper? I did it in our bathroom and it looks nice!

Hi, Pros! The snow makes a beautiful contrast with the red rocks there, doesn't it?

Hi, Karen! I understand having teenagers and travel, though with today's electronics the boredom is lessened. However, I wonder if they're missing out on something fundamental?

Shore, if I ever go on a trip with you, I'm taking a winch, a life preserver, flares, and a large first aid kit! ;-)

Sandi, that's me: A day late and a dollar short, lol!

ycd, if your neck of thev woods looks like that on the Norway cam, then you have some pretty scenery!
