The beez Need You.
What will happen if the bees disappear?
By Marla Spivak

May 17, 2014 -- Updated 1537 GMT (2337 HKT)
(CNN) -- As thoughts turn to warm weather and gardening, it's a good time to consider planting flowering trees, shrubs and other plants that are attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators. You can beautify your yard, diversify the landscape and feed and protect pollinators, all at the same time.
The bees need you.

Honeybee colonies are dying at frightening rates. Since 2007, an average of 30% of all colonies have died every winter in the United States. This loss is about twice as high as what U.S. beekeepers consider economically tolerable. In the winter of 2012-13, 29% of all colonies died in Canada and 20% died in Europe.

Wild bee species, particularly bumblebees, are also in peril.
Anyone who cares about the health of the planet, for now and for generations to come, needs to answer this wake-up call.
Honeybees and wild bees are the most important pollinators of many of the fruits and vegetables we eat. Of 100 crop species that provide 90% of our global food supply, 71 are bee-pollinated. The value of pollination of food crops by bees in the U.S. alone is estimated at $16 billion and insect pollinators in general contribute $29 billion to U.S. farm income.
Fewer bees lead to lower availability and potentially higher prices of fruit and vegetables. Fewer bees mean no almonds, less coffee and less alfalfa hay available to feed dairy cows.

Bees visit flowers because they need to eat. They derive all of the protein they need in their diet from floral pollen, and all of the carbohydrates they need from floral nectar. As they fly from flower to flower, collecting pollen on their fuzzy bodies to take home as food, they end up transferring pollen from one blossom to another of the same floral species, and pollination just happens.

We need good, clean food, and so do our pollinators. If bees do not have enough to eat, we won't have enough to eat. Dying bees scream a message to us that they cannot survive in our current agricultural and urban environments.
Fifty years ago, bees lived healthy lives in our cities and rural areas because they had plenty of flowers to feed on, fewer insecticides contaminating their floral food and fewer exotic diseases and pests. Wild bees nested successfully in undisturbed soil and twigs. Now, bees have trouble finding pollen and nectar sources because of the extensive use of herbicides that kill off so many flowering plants among crops and in ditches, roadsides and lawns.
Flowers can be contaminated with insecticides that can kill bees directly or lead to chronic, debilitating effects on their health.
Additionally, with the increase in global trade and transportation, blood-sucking parasites, viruses and other bee pathogens have

been inadvertently transmitted to bees throughout the world. These parasites and pathogens weaken bees' immune systems, making them even more susceptible to effects of poor nutrition from lack of flowers, particularly in countries with high agricultural intensity and pesticide use.
Although we know that most insecticides can kill bees when used in high enough concentrations, one class of insecticides, called the neonicotinoids, is making headlines because the active ingredients can move into the pollen and nectar of treated flowering plants. It is important to pay attention to the use of neonicotinoids in commercial farming and local gardens.
But it is equally important to pay careful attention to all classes of insecticides that are applied on, move in or drift on to flowering plants, in any landscape -- your home garden among them.
Read the label and always think twice about pesticide use: Is it really necessary for you, or for a landscaper tending your yard, to apply a particular herbicide and insecticide? Are there alternatives or times of application that would not harm bees?
It's time for all of us to act.
What can you do?The good news is that each of our individual actions, even small, can lead to positive, perhaps even large-scale, change.
We must all help diversify our farms and urban landscapes by planting flowers along crop borders, in land unprofitable for crop production, along roadsides, power line corridors and in city lawns.
What should you plant?
Go for native flowering plants from your region. Or plant clover, alfalfa or other flowering cover crops that replenish soil nutrients and prevent erosion. And then grab a chair and a sun hat and watch the bees pollinate your garden and farm, rewarding you and the world with healthy food and beautiful flowers.

7.2 earthquake may isolate Metro Manila – Phivolcs
By Perseus Echeminada (The Philippine Star) | Updated June 17, 2014 - 12:00am
MANILA, Philippines - Metro Manila and nearby provinces may be isolated due to collapsed roads and buildings if a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hits the National Capital Region, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned yesterday.

Speaking at a summit sponsored by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and SM Prime Holdings, government seismologist Renato Solidum said a movement in the West Valley Fault, estimated to generate a huge tremor, could cause a tsunami as high as 18 feet that could damage over 100,000 residential buildings.

Solidum said the fault system that runs north to south along the west and east edges of the Marikina Valley poses the greatest threat to Metro Manila.

“Metro Manila and its vicinity will be isolated should the Manila trench move and cause tsunami as high as 5.5 meters,” he said.

Metro Manila may be separated into four isolated zones based on geography. Collapsed buildings in Makati and Mandaluyong cities as well as the Pasig River may separate northern and southern parts of the metropolis. Broken road networks will isolate the west and east sections of the capital.

The Phivolcs chief said such occurrence was recorded twice – on Nov. 9, 1828 and June 3, 1863 – when tsunamis of about two meters engulfed the western side of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

Headlines ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch: 1
Aside from tsunami, massive flooding and fires may isolate the metropolis.

Andrew McElroy, UNISDR disaster risk reduction expert, said the Philippines registered the highest number of deaths when Typhoon Yolanda struck the Visayas last year.

Yolanda left nearly 8,000 people dead.

The earthquake in Bohol and Cebu killed 230 people.

McElroy said the UNISDR is leading efforts to make the private sector more adaptive to the challenges brought about by climate change.

For his part, Hans Sy, president of SM Prime Holdings, said they have been implementing measures to make their businesses resilient to disasters and to protect their employees and communities.

I HAVE BEEN SO DISTRACTED THAT I AM LOST IN SPACE NOW I AM RE-ORIENTING AND MOVING TO THE LIGHT AND WILL GET RID OF THIS VIRUS THAT HAS MISLED ME THROUGH THE YEARS -

If someone is heavily into ego-gratification, or invested in blaming, punishing or misunderstanding you, there is little you can do at the conscious level to change their mind. Instead, speak to their soul in the light of love and forgiveness. Release the situation and move on. Those who are deeply entrenched in the ego and feeding off the short-lived power of punishing may continue to milk this past situation but when you disable it by moving on, their power fades.

Be Gentle, Loving and Forgiving of Yourself and Others

Always be sure to receive the lesson of every situation; make any needed course corrections and forgive yourself for any way in which you struggled, resisted, reacted, or became invested in the wreckage of life. Forgive yourself for any way in which you fell prey to thought viruses or responded in a lower-vibrational way. Forgive others for failing to be supportive, understanding and awake.

The person who remains committed to un-love and un-forgiveness are only hurting themselves by choosing to remain in a small place. Those who refuse to forgive remain as a drop of water trapped in the ego’s small puddles, unable to merge into the ocean of their own spirit. Silently bless them and hold a space for them to awaken to the ocean of their own potential.

Those who received the call to fulfill their destiny as lightworkers may have watched relationships, careers and other life fixtures crumble and fall away in recent months and years. Abrupt and chaotic change serves as a multi-layered teaching ground. If you experienced changes in relationships, it’s important during this time to use a higher level of awareness in all connections. This may move some to examine the nature of unconditional love. Some may feel inspired to take up the study of spiritual astrology to understand the soul contracts they hold with others. Inspired to heal past life connections, some may study past life regression to facilitate the healing of their soul throughout time.

I RECEIVED A CALL - Events were shown to me at hand before it happens and that what is meant to happen. How the soul could tell me what to think and do even before i found these and now i know i am on the right tract "again" after being lost for many years ... to my journey home following the light i continue.

That purple rose is beautiful! The flower itself is special, but I also look at the photography. Since about 2012, I have become very interested in photography. I bought a textbook and studied it and also I have practiced on many different subjects. In that purple rose photo, I am intrigued by the play of light and shadow and how the rose seems to glow with a light of its own.

I don't know how much you are interested in photography, but another WUblogger, Calpoppy, and I are trying to put together a group of people on Flickr who want to learn more about photography. If that sounds of interest to you, go check out her blog, starting at Comment #33.

After a very rainy spring here, we are finally getting control of the over-grown grass and weeds. My vegetable garden is all planted and now I wait for things to grow. It seems that for every veggie plant, there are at least six weeds that will sprout. A gardener's work is never done, but if Mother Nature cooperates with some warm weather now, I may have some veggies to photograph one day soon.

#74 is fascinating! This is the first time I have learned of such a way of doing. It makes a lot of sense and seems very practical. We are always looking for ways to reduce garbage and to re-use and recycle or compost. I am guessing that the center hole is needed so that the wet paper will be able to dry in the center and therefore burn better. Thank you for sharing this good idea!

We at the administrative section started the gathering of used bond papers. we prepared a box for employees to drop to that box their bond paper used at one side - we recycle it for photocopying or printing at the other side for office file copies or when we have to print and review documents before it is finalized then once no longer needed they drop it to another box with label "for shredding". yesterday at the office the boys shredded the papers and another one from the maintenance department will do the charcoal. The watchman promised to do the charcoal too. It was just to show them how and to explain to them to start the ball rolling and the ball is rolling... Yes the center hole is needed for that and also for the smoke to get out once the charcoal is being used. You are most welcome and hope you share this to many. We need to help Mother earth. She choking in yellow. going to visit the doctor today to get some appointments ^_^ thanks for stopping by Briar. How have you been by the way?? hope all is well.

10 pm June 15, 2014 - it rained hard but not too long.
Today, We celebrated 13th year of Il Dinero Tupperware branch where i am one of the dealers. A Whole day affair was celebrated at Mountain View resort. It was a nice place on top of a mountain and the road was very steep. An hour of zumba dancing and the rest was prizes and happiness. *sigh kness* ^_^ but i was able to take some pictures. We caught a security guard sleeping and saw a Gorilla and tall sexy ladies. A strange fruit too. Someone said it was medicinal and it was mentioned in the bible. I had a long .... exciting... tiring day and my bed is calling so i will upload the photo if i wake up early if not it will be my evening after work... Have a good night/good Morning
special day for dads.

"As Time Goes By"

You must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss
A sigh is still (just) a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by

And when two lovers woo
They still say: I love you
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by

Moonlight and love songs - never out of date
Hearts full of passion - jealousy and hate
Woman needs man - and man must have his mate
That no one can deny

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

Here I want to share what I have been doing to help reduce garbage at the office as we have been ordered to do.
segregate, re use recycle etc..
Last year I asked if the office could by a shredder then it became controversial why cashiering Department ordering a shredder. Then this department order came out lately we need to lessen garbage. Now they know why we asked for a shredder. This was our plan ~ to make a paper charcoal
 photo IMG_20140613_155215.jpg

so the process starts by the employee recycling band papers use the other back to photo copy or print and once it is no longer needed we ask them to put it in a box then we shred it.

then we put the shredded paper into a container and soak it in water for about a day like this

 photo IMG_20140613_065312.jpg

 photo IMG_20140613_065448.jpg

using a stick so we could make a hole

 photo IMG_20140613_065614.jpg

i was able to make 10 yesterday

 photo IMG_20140613_071454.jpg
then dry it under the sun
 photo IMG_20140613_102844.jpg

once it is dry take out the stick and the finished product looks like this

 photo IMG_20140613_071907.jpg

Now you have a paper charcoal.. 5 small ones could cook rice, boil water or boil eggs. and less smoke too.

I tried to watch the honey moon here my place but no luck.. it was cloudy and dark. so i guess at this time of my night 10:13 pm im going to call it a night. I found a new friend today..She is so nice and is helping me out in the chatroom. I wish i could stay with her but my eyes would not cooperate and it just wanted to switch off. LOL Also , I missed chatting my other friend. I was able to talk to hanini though and shared what my other friend taught me (scanning etc). This is another proof that friends are blessings and God sends them to us the time we needed someone. Also another proof that the Lord provides all our needs including our need to have someone to talk to
Today for some reason i was a tease again. (perhaps being friday the 13th) I was teasing two good friends today one in my morning and the other one in my evening LOL well I wanted to sing to them both... knowing me knowing you.. there is nothing we can do.. LOL

You are doing things I used to do years ago when the Pacific Task Force from the US Navy was trying to help forecast typhoons. You put the lat and long grids up and use your pagasa and can see where the danger is now and where it may go later. What I used long ago is now much the same but it is more accurate. Good Blog.

Hi Orange^_6 thank you for visiting my blog. Yes i used pag- asa as my source and trying to learn how to do it. I do not want to be bugging you to teach me how although I know you are always willing to teach me yeap I noticed in your previous blog that it is what you did and I remember the very first blog i had here back in 2008 it was you who searched for that radar and gave me the url and walked me how to post it here.

What a fascinating snake caterpillar in #47! I thought it was a snake at first glance, then looked more closely after reading about it. Isn't Nature wonderful in all her forms?

I added the quote in #49 to my collection. It is beautiful. I think creativity and soul are two sides of the same coin. Certainly, without nurturing both, we wither and stop living, even if we don't die.

And speaking of beautiful words, you said some beautiful things in #52, especially
I am in high spirit and i want to share it to who ever reads my blog hoping that each and everyone of us would find peace and happiness and spread the love. Give a smile to those who has none. ... Like here in WU, everyone gives time to update blog and put comments and visit one blog to another to read or comment - it is giving a portion of our life to them giving time to know what they are up to ...
Nicely said! It is important to give a smile to those who have none. Every time I go out into the world, I try to make eye contact with a stranger and give them a smile. I never thought of our WUblogs as you describe them, but as I think about it, you are absolutely correct. Every time someone comments in my blog, they are giving a portion of their life to me. And that gift is always appreciated. And then, when some number of those gifts have been exchanged, one day I discover that I have a new friend -- someone who is important, who matters to me, and who I would miss if they were gone.

And that is why, when I have been gone from the blogs for awhile, because of busy-ness or illness, when I return, I want to take the time to catch up with all that I have missed.

Your Baby Lucas is adorable! I hope you will post more photos as he plays and grows.

I think it is so wonderful that you can grow orchids and roses in the same place. Where I live, an orchid would have to be a house plant and so I would think that where you live, a rose would not be happy with heat and humidity. Obviously, that is not true, because you grow beautiful roses.

Your Rainy Season officially started today. Ours has finally ended. It is common for us to have no rain from some time in June until September. Lawns turn brown, except for the weeds that manage to stay green all through the dry season. Two inches down, the soil here is still very wet, but I have started to water my vegetable garden because seeds and seedlings can't reach down to the wet. Soon, it will be dry even deep down in the soil.

So now I have caught up with you. Sorry I was gone for so long. Give Lucas a big puppy hug for me.

whats the puppy's name ?? nice orchids ..

Hi wab meet Lucas He is mixed canine of pomeranian and shitsu breed.
i am patiently waiting for these orchids to show flowers since they were tiny when i planted them and i don't know their colors. I have one that just had its first flowers since i bought it October 2010. I bought two and the first one had its flowers about 3 months ago. Wish I had bought plenty but I was afraid that bringing many orchids is prohibited by airport authorities. I found out we could bring many as long as it gets inspected and we pay for a fee. I just took photo of the other orchid and will post it here too.
Thank you for visiting my blog. hope you have a nice weekend.

The other Morning When I was to water my plants, I noticed someone was visiting. She was happily resting there. The old tradition here says when there is a butterfly there's going to be a good news. I think when there are flowers there will be butterflies visiting. But perhaps that saying is true because i got a very nice surprise from someone important and made me so happy. so it maybe true LOL. I went very near to take the photo and she just stared at me and never flew. but when she noticed i started to water the plants she flew to another higher plant.

Yesterday afternoon While I was at the office - it rained very hard but when i came home the place are all dry never rained in my place at all.
I have had good times reading in my group. with all posts and wonderful blogs and comments there. keeps me busy and time just fly with out me noticing how fast it did.
Been meeting people in my chat room too, some of them trolls (thinks of debating about the faith) But that room is for fellowship and prayer. So a red dotting is good and a handy tool for that matter.
I have started re-orienting to my old life and I am enjoying it but of course it is not an easy thing to do as we got so attached with people and places and we wanted to keep them still.
But I still say.. It's a wonderful world.

Today at 4 am I heard a loud thunder and i went out even if it was still dark then there was lightning and i run inside. But it did not rain. Went back out side and watered the plants using the rain water i had saved when i placed a big basin under the water sprout.
I think it is going to be another hot day today and hope it will not be too hot when i go to the post office. Last few week made me lazy and not wanting to go send mails. ^_^ I am in high spirit and i want to share it to who ever reads my blog hoping that each and everyone of us would find peace and happiness and spread the love. Give a smile to those who has none. Sometimes it takes me talking to a person to smile and laugh my heart out but I do not want the person to think that they are a clown to me why i laugh loud when they tell jokes. I laugh a lot because the person is giving a portion of their life by spending time with me. Like here in WU, everyone gives time to update blog and put comments and visit one blog to another to read or comment - it is giving a portion of our life to them giving time to know what they are up to and to see if they are okey and sharing technology and pictures and all. It is another day for me as the sun woke up while the rooster and the birds are singing. It Is a lovely Day! ! ! ! CU L8ter! (^_^)

What a smart one! managed to scare predators Lol
Well in our world too some people are like snakes .
A caterpillar in Costa Rica uses a unique disguise to ward off predators and the costume is quite striking, as is its response should it be approached.

The caterpillar cleverly camouflages itself as a slithering snake and comes with a head that looks like a snake. The snake caterpillar, in its larval state before becoming a moth, will also strike harmlessly if approached, just as a snake would, with the exception of a potential bite.

According to Caters News Agency, the bug creates the illusion of looking like a dangerous reptile by expanding parts at the end of its body.

Daniel Janzen, a professor of biology at the University of Pennsylvania, took the photos you see here while cataloguing caterpillars in the Area de Conservacion Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Caters News Agency released the photos on Tuesday.

Well i told my kids when i die do not buy me an expensive coffin just make a strong one made of plywood and adorn it with yellow roses all around and then bury it and let it rot. I wanted my earth suit to return to where it was. from dust unto dust. while I will be looking at them and be their angel praying for them to be happy and not going to have the life that i had. ^_^ Will be home at last and will be looking down earth singing lovely songs. and the dream is full filled.

A shame some Chinese are leaving early over how their bones & earthly skin will fair..

This embalming is horrible for the environment, even left to rot much of our Carbon would escape to the atmosphere, so cremation isn't all that bad. Now something like biocharring remains (which I may have just invented) might capture the Carbon & return the earth in a better state....

Darn, didn't invent it.. It already exist, has a name (pyrolysium) & an organization..

Hi sky what a pleasant surprise ! thank you for the visit.
