Snow and Birding in Winter

Today, we had a bit of snow - No nature walk cold 16 degrees with windchill of 3 at 9:30 this morning - but nature came to my window and visited me!

We did not get a lot of snow but my street, driveway, and walks were white. The grass still peeked through the snow - so not inches of snow but was still pretty to me.

It was an inside day for me - stand at the door and take a photo from both directions!

As I was standing at the door snapping from both directions, I saw my resident Lady Cardinal perched on a lower branch of a small tree.

Quite a few came to the feeder today - of course windows were too fogged to get the best shots but that did not stop me. Yes, even the squirrels and the mourning doves, too.

Lots of little birds visited today! So I was a window birder today! Happy Birding in Winter!

GG and Bug Thanks for the white rabbits and nice wishes! We are at a balmy 60 again today after 3 days and four nights of bitter cold with a bit of snow! I got to go down on the RiverWalk this afternoon - did I ever get lucky! The most exciting photo op was with a wood duck - My first ever seeing one and received an AC blue border on the photo! So double fun!

Rabbits, rabbits, rabbits, WW.

Congrats on the AC.

Yesterday was lovely. Blue skies, sunshine and shirtsleeve weather.

Today, we're wet and at a chilly 47F/8C. I can live with that!

White Rabbits, White Rabbits, White Rabbits

Happy February. Cardinals are colorful and congrats on the AC, but somehow the titmouse and junco just kind of stand out as natures best use of grey scale on birds.

Thanks Proserpina. BriarCraft, and Sandiquiz. You have brightened my morning already. Thank you for checking out my blog and my WU Photos. One of my cardinal shots won Approvers Choice - What a way to start the day! Love the thoughts of the chocolate bunnies - but will settle for chocolate covered strawberries - not even the fancy type - homemade with just one side covered with Nutrella. YUM! Proserpina, I guess I do love winter but like it even better when the temps get above 40 so I can get out and go for a nature walk! Happy Saturday, EVERYONE!

Wow! I'm not jealous any more.

I went back to your previous blog to catch up and saw that you had a lovely walk with sun, birds, and a balmy 62º. I was jealous.

Next day, 15º and I'm not jealous any more. I'm glad that and some white stuff didn't stop you from "shooting" some more birds. Now I'm off to check out the rest of your recent photos.

I love your 'snow blog'. The snowbird (Junco) in the first photo is precious! He seems tiny, perhaps he is just a baby. I have them too but they are a little larger. They always graze under the feeders, I have never seen them at the feeders themselves. Lucky you to find one of them in the feeder!

I see you around the blogs, so glad that you found your way around and meet our wonderful WU friends.

Quoting 3. WeatherWise:
Snow on Pier at Kitty Hawk, NC
http://www.avalonpier.com/piercam.html

In looking at the cam photo overnight, I am thinking perhaps that is not snow after all. Seems to be a lot of construction going on here on the pier. Maybe that is not snow that appeared to be snow. I am unsure. I have seen the pier cam once quite a few years ago completely covered with snow. Perhaps I will search for that photo and share it if I find it.

Hi Bug, I was wondering about you. I have been listening to the weather and how so many traffic problems overnight in GA and SC. Glad you are staying in today. I have taken a few shots from door....and have put water out twice in birdbath. Need to do it again as temp is still below freezing at 23 F at a bit after one. So not a lot of melting going on - am thankful for a beautiful sun1 You take care.

Morning. We're pretty much iced in today. There've been some snow flurries since 7:30 or 8:00, so we now have a dusting of white.

I was just outside, freeing ice from the birdfeeders so that they could get to the feeder ports. Icicles had barred the way.

Also threw some seed out on the street.

Can't do much about the birdbath today. I do see a few small unfrozen bits of water on the street and the drive next door. They birds will have to make do until tomorrow.
