My First CSA Farm Share of the Season, Identify the Veg, Family Pride, Spring Walks and Nature and More

Today I had my first farm delivery for the 2014 season. I purchased a 1/4 share from a local farm -Strawberry Creek Farm Produces Chemical Free and Certified Naturally Grown Produce. I receive a delivery every week for 24 weeks. This early in the season, today's delivery was all greens. Sometimes I have difficulty identifying the greens. Perhaps you can help me.

Today's Vegetables

I am sometimes unsure what each is. With this being just leaves I am not 100% certain but think this is Bokchoy.

I am thinking this must be arugala.

This is Kale.

This is a beautiful luscious lettuce mix.

This spinach is so pretty and green and so healthy.

Family Pride
Today I was most proud to introduce my son to my WMU group at church to tell all about his family mission trip to Costa Rico last summer. He did such a great job and everyone just loved him and wanted to take him home with them. He had the sweetest handout starting with photos that were taken by my 7 year old grandson and he compared him to his mom (me) and how he was a camera nut like me. It was so sweet how he included his children in his handout. I was super impressed. Everyone had such meaningful questions after he finished. It was a lunch meeting and later after visiting his granddaddy, he text me and wanted to know what my dinner plans were. So we actually had lunch and dinner together today before he headed back home. A fun day.

Sky as I started out on my late walk - Clouds Gathering.

That is pretty much why I had such a LATE walk. Just as I turned the corner from my street my friend was pulling in her driveway and under her garage. As I walked past, I heard her knocking on her garage door. I pretty much knew that meant she wanted to walk with me. So I waited - always happy to have a companion especially with it getting dark already.

We were walking along and talking when we froze in our tracks as she was saying, "Look, Look, Look!" I got about 4 shots of a deer.

As we were saying our good-byes we looked up and saw the moon peeking through the thick clouds! I got a couple of shots before the clouds quickly covered it again.

Night Clouds in the Sky Hid the Moon Just as Quickly as it Peeked Out! My Walk Home.

Hi Shirley,

Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was busy with visitors and visiting!

I saw your comment about the community chat room. Yes, it has been around for ages, in fact I used to join in the chat when I first joined back in 2005. Now it is the youngsters who chat away about weather and other subjects!

I have left and explanation in my blog about your query of "Apples and Pears" :)
Happy Monday to you.

WeatherWise and Bug, are you two using IE 8, by chance? The beta site is totally broken on IE 8, so WU is redirecting people to the old site.

BTW, IE 8 is obsolete now. If you're running windows XP and can't upgrade, you can still install the newest version of Firefox or Chrome.

Well, I found something new, tonight! Perhaps all of you already have been there and know all about it. However I did not! I saw the sign: Community Chat and I just stumbled right on in. There appeared to be 4 empty chat rooms, Perhaps admin was present in each and maybe one other that I did not recognize in the moderators lounge. There was a general weather one and tropics one and one more but I forget what that one was as I just stumbled right on back out the door and came here to share with my blog buddies. Now how about that! Is that new? Oh, the link is:

When I was a little girl before we had a TV, my big sister would slip off up to my cousin's house (who had a TV and a telephone before anyone else) to watch the Hit Parade on Saturday nights. Once in awhile I somehow managed to get to go with her. I remember them running all around trying to get in that Green Door. Seems the version on the Hit Parade was never the real hit version that was on the radio. Yes, I remember not having a TV or telephone. My parents were slow to accept the idea of such newfangled things as TV and telephone. Life has surely changed since I was a little girl.

I have yet to see any difference between NUWU and BETA except for my local weather page.

Since it looks like the Big Unveiling may happen overnight tonight, I'll just have to wait and see what it looks like tomorrow.

Oh, well! Guess I will see What's Behind the Green Door - BETA, eventually!

Shakin' Stevens - Green Door

Midnight, one more night without sleepin'
Watchin' till that morning comes creepin'
Green door, what's that secret you're keepin'?

There's an old piano and they play it hot behind the green door
Don't know what they're doin' but they laugh a lot behind the green door
Wish they'd let me in so I could find out what's behind the green door

Knocked once, tried to tell 'em I'd been there
Door slammed, hospitality's been there
Wonderin' just what's goin' on in there

Saw an eyeball peepin' through a smoky cloud behind the green door
When I said Joe sent me someone laughed out loud behind the green door
All I want to do is join the happy crowd behind the green door

Oh, come on in there, ooh baby

Midnight, one more night without sleepin'
Watchin' till that morning comes creepin'
Green door, what's that secret you're keepin'?

There's an old piano and they play it hot behind the green door
Don't know what they're doin' but they laugh a lot behind the green door
Wish they'd let me in so I could find out what's behind the green door

Saw an eyeball peepin' through a smoky cloud behind the green door

The local news said we are not going to see that here. It has always been thought that the movement of the moon could affect the water.. some say could affect us women.. I was thinking if i would lose my marbles on that day LOL. I hope you get the chance to take a photo of the moon. have a good sleep!

Hi Briarcraft, I did not realize the 4 latest photos in sidebar would be gone. I like that and when I click on Beta it is still there. That is why I am saying I see little difference if any - maybe that is why - perhaps my preview of BETA is not like the BETA you are seeing. Which states have already changed over?

WeatherWise, I suspect that you're not actually getting to Beta if you're not seeing much difference.

When you click the orange beta button, are you then clicking on it a second time? If not, you're not getting to beta. You can double-check that you're in beta by looking at the URL. If the URL starts with "preview.wunderground.com", you in beta; if you don't see "preview" at the start of your URL, you're still in the old Wunderground,

No need to whisper about the WU product team blog. I've been shouting over there frequently.

I sure wish they'd put back the part of the old sidebar that would show your four most recent photos here. Makes it hard to know when I should go looking for some photos to comment and rate. You'll let us know, I hope!

Okay, everyone! Whispering real low! I think I have the scoop on what is going on with WU upgrade! Quite by accident, I stumbled into a blog and this is what I heard or read!

Phase one of the roll out has gone well - we've received tons of great feedback and we're cranking around the clock to get more changes made and more bugs fixed!

Minnesota and Massachusetts - you guys will see the new site tomorrow morning. Just wanted to let you all know so you don't get a shock!

If all goes to plan, we hope to launch to everyone some time next week.

Keep the feedback coming!

SO SOUNDS LIKE OUR TURN IS COMING SOON! Still whispering but loudly!

Hi Plapman, I saw your photo with the snow all around your car. Hope it does not stay long and you get spring weather soon

Okay, WU folks, what are you seeing in the changes. When I look at the BETA, I am like some others and see nothing really different except those strange little cartoon people which I see whether in New or Beta New! So tell me what I am missing. Noticed Willow13 had captured all of the little icons and pasted them into a comment on her frog flower photo.

Oooooh, Pros! I love your special bluebird photo! How neat! I bet you start seeing them everywhere now that you have seen your first.

Oh, not sure if I ever told you, bluebirds are not that easy to spot as they are so tiny. I never know if I am getting a bluebird or some other little bird when I first start shooting. That was true especially when I first started taking photos of them. After awhile you begin to recognize them by their sound and by their pose.

Another thing is they flit all around too constantly. One minute they are on powerline and next instant they are on the ground or on a line across the street or flown on off over into the woods or two streets over.

And as all birds they never stand still or sit still. YOu prep for photo in one position and by the time you snap they are turned all the way around in the opposite direction. Folks probably think that birds just sit and pose for you and don't have a clue that they are moving every second.

I love your bluebird FIRST photo! That is a neat little birdbox too! Never seen one like that.

Have a beautiful day! Thanks for stopping by.

Great Blog WW!

Sweet and wonderful story about your son being introduced to your church. Makes me smile.

On and off I have been mentioning how much I admire your bluebirds photos and that I had never seen a Bluebird. Well, a couple of days ago this evasive bird (for me) was sitting on his little house in the bird preserve area of the Botanical Garden I visited. Now I can say that I have seen my first (and only) Bluebird! I was like a child immersed in beloved melted chocolate!

Hi Sandi, Yes, I hope it doesn't hit you the way it hit me. It was crazy how I had to deal with either seeing in white or grey today. Those were my only two choices. I hated it, but have got it back to normal finally.

Hi BriarCraft Thanks it was super exciting to get the fresh veggies straight from the farm. I am like you - I just love to go to the farmers market and can hardly wait for it to open. That is actually how I met my farmer! He came to my local market to sell vegetables and had a big sign CSA Shares for Sale. It was ideal as I got to pick out what I wanted - fill up a quarter size basket and all that I could pile on top of it. However this year, he is choosing to go to a bigger market so he will choose for me what I get which is the way most CSA Farm Shares are handled. I first heard about CSA shares from my daughter. At that time there were no CSA farms in my area. So I was super happy to meet my farmer. This is my third year of enjoying his wonderful fresh vegetables. Yes, BokChoy looks just like what you had. What threw me off was the white stems. Seems I remember the Swiss Chard had some reddish on stems and in veins of leaves and this did not. Plus don't think he had that listed as available on his website. I agree, though that it looks more like Swiss chard.

I need to check to see if my thyme wintered over. My oregano came through the winter great.

Hi DataPilot, I had two choices the white that it change over to or classic which was all grey - everything so switched it back to the other which made it all white. It drove me crazy all day. Later this afternoon after you posted, I went back to check again and you are right I was in High Contrast White even though that was not an option I chose. Plus there were other normal choices there this evening. I was able to change it back and get my colors back to normal. After changing it, my personal website loaded normal and others that were all white. It was so weird. I was afraid to even turn my laptop on as figured would be an upgrade there as well and the same mess up. And there was an upgrade to IE in this update. And yep either made my WU and every page all white or if I chose classic all grey. It was not a fun day in computer land. I am thankful to see normal colors again. Take all the color out of a page, bars, lines and all and it just kind of runs together. Thank you for mentioning colors so I would go back and check it again and get it back to normal.

Hi YelloworangeRose Glad you were able to hear the song I was thinking of.

WeatherWise, it sure sounds like you're using the "High Contrast White" theme. When you say "everything was all gray...." what do you mean? I'm using Classic, and have not noticed any unusual grayness following the last update.

One thing that did happen during the update was an upgrade to IE 11. It has quite a different look and feel than earlier versions of IE, which I actually do sort of like. But if it's making your WU all gray, that's not good.

Could you take a screenshot of the problem and post it here?

I'm almost as excited about your first CSA farm share as you are. I got an email notice just the other day from the big farmers market in Olympia that they have re-opened four days a week. Smaller farmers markets closer to home won't open until next month.

I don't think you got any bok choy. It looks more like Swiss chard to me.

This is bok choy, which I love in stir fries:

and this is chard:

The bok choy leaf is a darker green and the stem is much heavier. Boy choy is a member of the cabbage family. I'm not sure about chard's relatives, but you can prepare it like you would spinach, except that older stems need longer to cook.

I see you've got another fine batch of photos, and rumor has it, another AC! I've got to get outside and see if I can find some thyme amongst the weeds. I really am going to weed the herb bed! Anyway, I'll make some time to go see your photos soon.

Hi Everyone, I wrote a much nicer response only for my contrary actions of my computer this am after one of those auto upgrades came up with msg that it had to something like shut the page and reopen - well you know what that does to a blog entry you are typing in little window. GONE! So here is a short recap.

Hi Skye, Thanks for checking in on me and your congratulations on my AC moon photo! Hope you are having a beautiful day.

Hi Plapman, Neat that your daughter is apprenticing for tatoo artist - she must be a great artist. Had not thought about my sketch as a tattoo but you are probably right. Great that Abbey can run free on your walks. That does give you freedom with your camera. Have camera, will walk!

Hi YOR, I know the song you are talking about, too. It is a pretty song, too. The song I was thinking about was There's A Moon Out Tonight.

You can listen to it at this link:
http://bop.fm/s/pat-boone/theres-a-moon-out-tonig ht?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=www.lyricsmode.c om

There's a (moon out tonight) whoa-oh-oh ooh
Let's go strollin'
There's a (girl in my heart) whoa-oh-oh ooh
Whose heart I've stolen
There's a moon out tonight (whoa-oh-oh ooh)
Let's go strollin' through the park (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)

There's a (glow in my heart) whoa-oh-oh ooh
I never felt before
There's a (girl at my side) whoa-oh-oh ooh
That I adore
There's a glow in my heart I never felt before (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)

Oh darlin'
Where have you been?
I've been longin' for you all my life

Whoa-uh-oh baby I never felt this way before
I guess it's because there's a moon out tonight

There's a (glow in my heart) whoa-oh-oh ooh
I never felt before
There's a (girl at my side) whoa-oh-oh ooh
That I adore
There's glow in my heart
I guess it's because

There's a moon out tonight
Moon out tonight
Moon out tonight
Moon out tonight
There's a moon out tonight

Hi Sandi, Thanks! It is not WU problem but a computer problem from latest upgrade. Everything is white! Icons and everything and no pretty blue, nothing even around Approvers Choice in blue. However my computer desktop and everything is white and the classic I was referring to is in my control panel in an effort to change the color scheme. The classic has gray everywhere that is white at present. So I changed it back to the white. I use Internet Explorer - when I open WU in Google Crome it looks pretty much normal. Even my own website in IE, the checked background is not showing up so is some type of fluke that happened with the windows upgrade that occurred this am. Thanks for trying to help and showing me those pretty colors that I should be seeing.

Shirley, I saw your comment in my blog.

I wonder when you tried to pull up classic whether you forgot the full stop... I tried it for you and got a grey background, from a site called WW42classicwunderground...

The real classic should look like this... and the address bar should read classic.wunderground.

The NuWu looks like this, and the Beta site, below it, does show more white and is more open spaced.

Hope that helps:)

I discovered that my oregano in my tiny kitchen garden survived the COLD winter. I was thinking perhaps it did not make it.

I need to clear the old stems out that are visible in this photo and do general flowerbed spring cleaning.

My rains yesterday were just short showers with sun right back out and then gone. Yesterday late tremendous clouds gathers but don't think any rain came with them.

Good Morning. Going to be another warm day here.
I think your first picture may be Swiss Chard. I grow some rainbow swiss chard more as an ornamental because some of the stalks are vibrant orange and reds.
It is very good cooked lightly in a frying pan with butter and garlic. If you have some chopped pecans add those too.

Wwise, the song goes like this... are the stars out tonight I don't know if its cloudy or bright cause I only have eyes for you (@_@) the moon maybe bright but I can't see a thing in the sky cause I only have eyes for you...♫♫♪♫♫ .
There will be a blood Moon on the 14th this month but so sad it will not be seen here in my country. So.... I thought I would surely see how the moon looks when you get the chance to see it and capture the moment! Good morning !

Good morning Shirley.
my daughter is taking apprenticeship to be a tattoo artist.
That owl picture would make a great tattoo.
Abbey runs free on most our walks so her and the camera should be no problem. I just have to remember it.:)

Hi Ozgalah, Funny thinking of you trying to get the photo while holding on to Geddy at same time and ending up with a nice picture of the paddock. Not too easy to take photos while walking the dog I guess.

Hi DataPilot, That is so exciting that you have actually seen a few snowy owls in your area on your neighbor's yard. That is interesting that all the Audubon members were running with their binoculars!) Several users have posted snowy owls on WU. I have been intrigued just with the photos posted.

Thanks for the snowy owl drawing. Very cool.

Believe it or not, we've actually seen a few snowy owls here over the last few years. In fact, "here" as in, "on my neighbor's property". (You should have seen all the Audubon members running and their binoculars!) Until recently, the snowy owl range didn't include this area, but they seem to be coming further and further south. Biologists don't know why.

I'm with plapman I tried to get a photo of some galahs in my neighbours garden whilst holding Geddy on an extending lead I was so intent on taking the photo I didn't notice he was stalking the galahs and rushed at the fence just as I took the photo.....nice picture of the paddock!
