The "Mean Season" Is Here...

By: WCSC , 10:58 AM GMT on June 01, 2006

Thursday is here as is the first day of the 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The good news is unlike the past several seasons, we are not starting off with an active storm. So, whats ahead this year...what is the bottom line? Most tropical experts say that we should not expect another season like we saw last year and in 2004. My thoughts are we can't not expect another "Mean Season". No one could have predicted Katrina so we have to be ready that this season could bring another massive wave of tropical weather.

Looking at the forecast this morning, we are in good shape. A good bit of shear aloft over the Gulf and Caribbean waters will inhibit any tropical development at least through most of the weekend.

A look at the satellite picture this morning shows clouds across the Bahamas and western Gulf but neither areas will allow tropical development.

Live SuperDOPPLER 5000

SuperDOPPLER 5000 painted a few coastal showers this morning but otherwise the coastal waters are clear today. A few afternoon thunderstorms can't be ruled out as the heating of the day picks up this afternoon

June typically sees development of systems in the Gulf and western Caribbean waters. By the time July rolls around, water temps support development in the western Atlantic and by August and September the waters off the African coast are the breeding grounds for new storms.

Hey Chad. Welcome. Nice blog entry. Unfortunately, it looks like the Carolinas are lined up for some activity this year according to some predictions.

If you need any weather links, drop by Plenty of links there to satisfy, and if you want to submit some that would be great.
