10-day forecast now says nothing over 90. Calling for 87 today. Winds out of NE stiff enough to hold the flags straight out without flapping. My hair dried in less than 5 minutes, although I now have a hair style of the sort that will scare children....makes me look like I heard shocking news or something..... might have to put a book on my head to get the hair to lie down.
No chance of surf fishing at sunrise. Surf-forecast web site is showing wave heights of 24 feet or so out near Cristobal. In-shore wave heights are going to be kept down with this NE wind. Still like a washing machine, still have rip tide / dangerous current advisory.
Gotta run. Have a great day, wherever you are.

Great, they've now posted the rocket launch schedule for the SpaceX Falcon 9 as "TBD." D**n you, Cristobal!

Oh, well, right now there are two launches scheduled for September.....maybe one of them will actually liftoff.... fingers crossed...

86 degrees today in Ormond Beach. Very low humidity. Winds at the beach are still gusty. Hard to beat this. The five-day forecast has changed substantially since this morning. Originally the forecast called for temperatures back in the 90's by Friday, and now they're showing 84 to 87 for the next five days.

Thank you for the new blog Scott! Very interesting.

So much cooler this week than last-what a relief. Last night 80 made me think of fall because it's just been that hot around here.

Since I live in Tampa, I am more paranoid about something forming in the gulf or the Carib and coming up to smack us.

As I mentioned yesterday, the northeasterly winds and associated swell were creating messy conditions at the beach, along with a strong undertow and possible rip currents. Today there's a Coastal Hazard Statement for Volusia County.. I'm not sure why they didn't issue a similar statement yesterday when the conditions were, on the surface at least, worse than they are today. The winds today are straight easterly on-shore, so there's not as much north/south current running. I'd guess yesterdays surf might have opened or widened some runouts in the sand bar that runs parallel to the beach, and it's in the runout areas where you're going to find the greatest risk of rip currents. (It's also where you'll often catch a lot more flounder and redfish..... just a tip for the fishermen out there.)
