Thanks, Jen.

I had to run errands today and there is really no standing water anywhere except in some of the ditches. We really did need the rain.

Thanks Scott

Yep, I was just out and about and while there is a very moderate light rain falling there are several streaks of lighting in the sky. Just seems odd!

Pretty decent rain for us right now. Lots of lightning.

Seems like there is a lot of lightning in storms this summer.

This weekend I will update the blog. Maybe I'll see if I can load some nice lightning pics on the new blog. I love lightning. I wouldn't wanna live anywhere else but Florida as we have more lightning than anybody.

I agree with you on the lightning. It has seemed like more to me also. I'm sure there's a good explanation out there somewhere.

Yeah Tampa has seen 12.17" of rain so far this month with 2 weeks left!

I actually live north of the city limits in Hillsborough County, about 4 miles south of the Pasco County line. The city of Tampa has had a lot of rain this month, but where I live it has been somewhat of a dry pocket since July 4th with storms all around, but no significant rainfall until three days ago. Glad to have it.

Take care in New Orleans, Scott.

Tampa International is at 12.17" of rain so far this month. OIA is close to 7" with some other areas around Orlando points east toward Titusville have seen over 16" of rain for the month. Just incredible amounts of rain already and we still have a half a month to go yet and by the looks of the Euro then our rainy season pattern is going to be kicked up a few notches starting Sunday as a upper trough cuts off over the SE US.

I'm at 34.87" at my house for the year with 9.27" so far for July.

Good morning! Well this forecast sounds good to me.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TALLAHASSEE FL
340 AM EDT Thu Jul 17 2014

.Near Term [Through Today]...
Slightly cooler and much drier air is advecting into the CWA behind
a rare mid-July Cold Front. As of early this morning, the front was
located approximately along a NE to SW line from Tifton GA, to
Bainbridge GA, to Bonifay FL, to Panama City FL. It is still fairly
warm and humid out ahead of it with temps in the middle 70s and
dewpoints in the lower 70s as of 300 AM EDT, but behind it, both
temps and dewpoints are already falling into and through the 60s in
many locations. This dry air will continue its SE push today, and
outside of some passing layers of Cirrus at 25,000ft, a mostly
sunny, seasonably hot, but unseasonably dry day is expected across
the entire region, resulting in a very rare PoP free day for the
heart of July.

Wow i feel so lucky. 2 years ago our home was struck by lightning. We have a galvanized roof over. It smelled like an electrical fire n scared us. We lost 3 tvs, 2 computers, all the landline phones, and it melted the cable box, blew out the internet router. No surge protector in the world will stop fl lightning strike.Still i see we are lucky it didnt burn our house down. I learned to respect lightning in florida when i lived in spring hill.

ST. PETERSBURG --
Showers and intense thunderstorms storms are moving across Pinellas, Hilsborough and Pasco counties, and a lot more rain is on the way.

The storms are coming from the Gulf of Mexico and moving east. Klystron 9 radar shows that some areas are getting torrential rain, which is coming on top of heavy rainfall yesterday.

The showers and thunderstorms are being generated by - of all things - a cold front that has dropped down from the Southeastern United States and high pressure that's situated to the south.

Rain ahead of the front is being driven inland by an onshore wind, and Klystron 9 shows that there's much more on the way.

"Once we see those showers and storms come in from the gulf this morning, we’re going to be looking at 'anytime' showers and storms," Marquez said. "That means some of us could have rain at 5 o'clock, some of us at 10 o'clock."

Already, some of the storms have packed frequent lightning and high winds.

Lightning is being blamed for fires at a Tampa apartment complex and Holiday home this morning and a house fire in Clearwater overnight.

Most parts of Bay News 9's seven-county viewing area got at least some rain yesterday. Tampa International Airport and Wesley Chapel received nearly 2 1/2 inches. Clearwater had 1 1/2 inches and one part of northeast Manatee County more than four inches, according to radar estimates.

"Today and tomorrow, there could be another two, maybe three inches or rain for parts of Tampa Bay," Marquez said.

The cold front won't drop far enough south to impact temperatures, but the rain itself will keep the afternoon highs in the 80s. When dry air returns Friday, the highs will soar back into the low 90s, Marquez said.

"We'll get back to a more typical summer pattern by next week, with 40 to 50 percent rain chances and mainly afternoon and evening showers and storms,' Marquez said.

Heavy rainfall over the past several days combined with continued storms today and tomorrow will allow for some local rivers to rise to flood stage over the next couple of days.

Although these rivers are currently below flood stage, they are expected to rise with steady rainfall through the end of the week.

In Manatee, a river flood warning has been issued for the Manatee River at Myakka Head from Thursday morning until Friday afternoon.

In Pasco, a flood warning is issued for the Cypress Creek at Worthington Gardens from Friday morning until further notice.

In Hillsborough, a flood warning is issued for the Little Manatee River at Wimauma from Thursday evening until Saturday morning.
