Well I'll be taking the day off tomorrow for Georgia-Florida to go with Mike. We've been doing this for more than 15 years, and it is a bit strange to be going to tailgate and sit in the special section for the UGA football alums. Cigars, bourbon, leaves, and sweat. It smells like football. Naturally I'll leave off my national championship ring for playing for GA Tech team in 1990---just not the place for it. We'll leave around 10 and tailgate at noon, before the game--hard to know when we'll be back. It's fun, but still feels weird to be among all these Dawgs!
It will be quite hot tomorrow. Even here at St. Simons, it should make the mid-upper 80s. Jacksonville has an outside chance of hitting 90 tomorrow. The record at Jacksonville is 86, and the forecast is 88, but I have a feeling it will be warmer, especially with 500 mb temps up to -2 C. If it does hit 90 in Jacksonville tomorrow, it will be the latest 90 degree day ever, beating the old record of 92 on October 22, 2006. The record high at St. Simons is 85, which I think we will break as well. It is 73 and humid, with a dewpoint of 71, with the wind for now east off the warm water. We won't fall below 70 tonight. Our temperatures today were 71/81, warm and humid. Not football weather at all! And if it does hit 90 on St. Simons (which I doubt) it will be our latest 90 degree day by 17 days! The old record for the latest 90 degree day on St. Simons is October 14, 1986.
On another note, October 30 marked two milestones in fall here. The day became shorter than 11 hours, and the sun no longer gets 45 degrees above the horizon, even at solar noon. You would think that would stop the hot weather---but nooooooo!
We will not be posting tomorrow, but y'all have a great and fun Halloween!

As of Friday October 23, our daylight shrank to 3 hours less than at the summer solstice. Friday also marks the day our average low is exactly 60--our average low will reach 60 again exactly 6 months later, on April 23. Our day lengths at the solstice are just over 4 hours apart, so the time from the solstice to solstice can be divided fairly neatly by the hours of daylight subtracted or added.....The first hour....From June 21 to Aug 18--the average temperature r...
