Horses that were Stranded in the Netherlands

Back in November of 2006 I posted several articles about the 100+ horses stranded by the floods in the Netherlands. We got word they were rescued but to see it is awespiring...

Remember the horses that were trapped for 3 days on a tiny piece of land in wind
and rain in the Netherlands? It had the nation mesmerized, watching about 100 horses
huddle against the wind and watching 18 of them die. First firemen, then the
Dutch army tried to rescue them, both unsuccessfully.

Four women on horseback rode out to the rescue. Here's a video of it.....

THE SOUND BEGINS ABOUT 58 SECONDS AFTER THE START..... GOOD VOLUME .......

ENJOY......

It is about 6 1/2 minutes long.

The WFTV deal of supplying discounted radios at publix quickly sold out. Brevard didn't get any in the 1st shipment but ours are coming, as are more for other areas.. I checked this out, great radio with SAME technoligy & you can't get it any cheaper on line. Highly recommend.

ENSO took a dive

ENSO update~ It actually came out the 16th, guess they wanted their 3 day weekend.

Synopsis: Subsurface contitions & recent forecasts indicate the possible development of La Nina during the last 1/2 of the year.

The anomily for NDJ is 1.1. Nov was the peak & OND was 1.1 as well, Jan average itself is +.5 ~ it would have to dive really hard for DJF to average us to an offical neutral.

Anomilies are 0 in regions 3,4. +.4 in region 1,2 And +.6 in region 4. SST Anomilies decreased in all regions last week. +.5 & ↑ is El Nino.

The # that counts is region 3&4, that principal (now) # went from +.2 to 0 this past week. Current condition is neutral. For the Neutral to be offical it has got to come from the average of 3 months. So offically it most likely would be atleast March for it to be offical neutral ENSO conditions.

The ESPI jumped from .29 to -.07 for the last 30 days ( in the last week)...

Amazing Skye!! Thanks for posting it here. When I saw it the first time through email, brought tears to me...the same happened today. Even the weanlings made it across! Just goes to show how much of the "herd mentality they have". It only takes one! Thank God for those strong minded women!!! Going to mail saddle and Barefoot to make sure if they haven't seen this, they will soon :-)

Good afternoon all..

& the Sat morning littlin gif award goes to Allybama & the little mermaid.

As for our midwest storm~ Last night it was 4 lows none less then 995mb, they're combining we have 2 now the lowest at 986mb..yikes. Rightnow what's going on in Arkasas is most condusive to Tornadoes though anyone in the watch areas should be on alert. This storm formed a few yesterday & will most likely make more. It's also a hail producer as well, with some small hail being thrown down right now with a history of large hail. once it finished combining into one low I wouldn't be suprised to see it make a lot of damage. So people~ be careful & heed your local NWS. The overly colorful warning map above can be clicked on then click on your area & then county for specific warnings.

Also interesting, on the surface map is the ITCZ has reappeared around 0 north. needs to move higher to spin up storms but another sign season isn't far off.

3 People Missing in Guatemala Sinkhole
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala A giant sinkhole swallowed several homes and at least one truck early Friday in Guatemala City, and officials said at least three people had been reported missing.

Hugo Sanchez, Guatemala's national disaster coordinator, said emergency officials couldn't attempt to rescue anyone overnight because the 330-foot-deep hole was very unstable. Loud noises and the smell of sewage rose from the hole, and the earth around it shook

Good morning everyone~ this Friday thing is quite exciting!!

Checking out the surface map, the low for our next chance of severe weather is down to 1002mb already & it hasn't even got cranking. Hipanola has a 1013mb Low disipating over it today. Trof over the Carolinas & The last Low to sweep the nation is in the Atlantic with hurrican force winds & 973mb...it's conected to the next big storm for the nation by a front that didn't quite droop as far as expected over FL last night so we may see temps a few degrees higher than expected in FL today. Especially the south end.

Evacuation Lifted in Marion County Fire

POSTED: 3:41 pm EST February 22, 2007
UPDATED: 7:42 pm EST February 22, 2007

MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- The Marion County Fire Department is working with the U.S. Forest Service to fight a wildfire in Marion County. Late Thursday afternoon, the fire, fueled by steady winds, had grown to over 250 acres.

The wildfire is located at Highway 40 and 314. Highway 40 was shut down but has reopened between Lacota Road and 314.

Crews have plowed lines around the fire and say it's isolated. Approximately 20 homes were evacuated as a precaution, but that evacuation has been lifted.

There could be potential smoke hazards for the evening and morning drive.

1st off thanks for the relief map, the click to make larger, much appreciated:)

Something passed end of last year & it may have been tacked on to something else. Origanally the deal was to end with 2006. It did get extended but for this year only. That new bill, taking the cap off the residiental would be sweet.

Thanks for the point you brought up on the Dr.'s blog Skye. It prompted me to do a little more research.

Bills of the same name "Securing America's Energy Independence Act" were introduced in the 109th Congress H.R. 5206 and S. 2677 but they never became law and no more action can occur on them.

These bills have been introduced to the current (110th) Congress as H.R. 550 and S. 590. If you supported these bills a few months ago you still need to tell the current Congress, especially if you have a new Representative or Senator.

As Dr. Masters says in today's blog entry, "... the results should be impetus to drastically cut greenhouse emissions soon ...".

Favio News

Several rooftops have been blown away, trees uprooted, and electricity to the town has been cut off. The Administrator of Vilanculos says they are unable to deal with the situation. Vilankulos is a popular tourist destination, well known for its pristine beaches, coral reefs and marlin fishing. Just off the coast are the Bazarutto islands which have been declared a world heritage site.

Great Link LowerCal~ I've never fired off 3 letters to proper polititions so fast..

I was looking at the possible severe weather coming up. GFS backed off of it some since yesterday with still possible but less. Right now I have much more concern for LA/MS Saturday night & early Sunday morning than for central or South FL.

"Securing America's Energy Independence Act"

The bill does what it says. The bi-partisan legislation (introduced in the House as H.R. 550 and the Senate as S. 590 ) would make America's energy future a lot brighter by making solar energy more affordable across the country. In many states, solar would be cheaper than buying electricity from the grid.

The bill extends the 30% federal investment tax credit (currently set to expire at the end of 2008) for another 8 years, modifies the distributed photovoltaics incentive to $1500 per half-kW of capacity and removes the $2000 residential cap.

Use the link below to send an email to your representatives, asking them to co-sponsor and support this bill.

Good Morning Everyone! Unforchanatly Mozembique got slammed lastnight. Favio made landfall in a populated touristy area that has been raveged by floods lately with wind speeds above 100kts.. Insult to injury. I've been posting info & articles in Dr Master's blog on it.

Levi feel free to ramble on, pretty neat. Hadn't looked at the MJO since the 14th when it breifly & barely came to our part of the world in the form of the Valentines Day storm. I think it's a huge indicator of where we'll see action.

Hey Skye, I love this activity in the Indian Ocean (as long as it doesn't hit anybody of course lol). This is a classic example of how the MJO works. Take a look at where it is now. Look how it's increased in intensity over the last 5 days. And look where it is...right dead center over the Indian Ocean. Absolutely classic. The MJO was indistinguishable 5 days ago, and suddenly it comes to life, and at the same moment all this stuff pops up in the Indian Ocean, where the MJO is. There's an example of what can happen in any basin, including the Atlantic. The MJO is a good thing to watch.

Sorry if I'm rambling on here but I love it when things like this go together lol. It's just so exciting to me. Have a great day :)

CMC stands for Canadian Meteorological Centre. The CMC on FSU is the CMCGLB (take a closer look at the phase anylisis). The GEM is the the CMCMRB Global Environmental Multiscale (GEM) Model. 2 different models. Obvious if you closely compare them..esp percip.

In Canada they come up with their forecast 1/2 & 1/2 between the CMCGLB & the GEM.

MIchael~ I just watch alot of different models, like you said lately the GFS has been off, CMC is precip happy, Nogaps hasn't been keeping up with the lows tails (though better with where it's going). GEM seems most on at least with Pressure & precip, wasn't on last storm 4 days out like the one before. My favorite is always the one doing best.

Not far down under GEM REG you'll see the word 'Animation'. Then you can work out the french for "precipitation" and "geopotential height", and click on the appropriate animation link.
