Garden~

When to plant what & how in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama.

July gardening in Florida is harvesting, keeping the weeds down..North & central FL can still plant a few summer type plants. South FL should plant nothing this month. August is huge planting month for all of FL. So get ready..July is a good month to plan & order seeds for fall & winter plants. Look for a few cloudy cooler hours this month to keep the beds & containers up if you can, makes fall garden go in alot easier.

North FL~ Lima Beans, southern peas (cow, black eyed), okra, eggplant, gourds & watermelon.

Central FL~ okra, southern peas & gourds.

South FL~ Plant nothing.

27th-31st A most barren period. Kill plant pests and do general farm work.

Local Weather~
Hot, probably lightning & rain.

Cyclone number nine in the eastern pacific..

National Hurricane Center Miami
Tropical Cyclone Advisory #1
TROPICAL CYCLONE ISELLE (EP092014)
2:00 PM PDT July 31 2014
===================================

SUBJECT: ISELLE Southwest Of The Southern Tip Of Baja California Peninsula

At 18:00 PM UTC, Tropical Storm Iselle (1006 hPa) located at 12.7N 122.3W or 935 NM southwest of the southern tip of Baja California Peninsula, Mexico has sustained winds of 35 knots with gusts of 45 knots. The cyclone is reported as moving west northwest at 9 knots.

Gale Force Winds
==============
60 NM from the center

Dvorak Intensity: T2.5

Forecast and Intensity
=================
12 HRS 13.4N 123.5W - 45 knots (Tropical Cyclone)
24 HRS 14.2N 125.0W - 55 knots (Tropical Cyclone)
48 HRS 15.1N 128.3W - 65 knots (Severe Tropical Cyclone/CAT 1)
72 HRS 16.0N 132.0W - 70 knots (Severe Tropical Cyclone/CAT 1)

Additional Information
===================
Deep convection has been wrapping up quickly during the past few hours near the low pressure system located near 122W, and TAFB and SAB have both provided Dvorak estimates of T2.0/30 kt. In addition, a partial 1800 UTC ASCAT-B pass indicated that the low is already producing winds to tropical storm force in the eastern semicircle. Therefore, advisories are being initiated on Tropical Storm Iselle, and the maximum winds are conservatively set at 35 kt.

With sea surface temperatures ahead of Iselle running between 27-28C and vertical shear not expected to be a significant limiting factor, the storm is forecast to strengthen for at least the next 3 days. The strengthening rate could be quick for the next day or so, with the SHIPS rapid intensification index showing a 44 percent chance of a 25-kt increase in winds by this time tomorrow. The SHIPS guidance is the most aggressive of the intensity models and brings Iselle to hurricane status within the next 24-36 hours. The NHC official intensity forecast is not as high as the SHIPS model, but since the environment looks favorable for strengthening, it does lie a little above the intensity consensus ICON.

Iselle is located to the south of a mid-level ridge which extends from northwestern Mexico southwestward to near 20N140W, and the cyclone's estimated initial motion is 295/9 kt. In general, ridging is expected to maintain a relatively steady west-northwestward motion for the next several days. Some slight decrease in forward speed is possible by day 4 when a weakness develops within the ridge near 135W and ridging strengthens near the Hawaiian Islands. The track guidance is tightly clustered for this forecast, and the NHC track forecast lies very close to the multi-model consensus TVCE.

Updated the entry... Not sure what is up with 50E...95E is new 92C is gone. From what I look on Navy & NOAA that is still 96W..

93L struggles on.. GEOS-5 is pretty much the same as yesterday.. Struggle, struggle, struggle, barely close, open, struggle, hit Hispaniola, struggle, reblob in on the Bahamas, struggle, get hit by a trough & struggle more as it's swept out to sea... So far it hasn't seen the memo..

Hades~ The floater is still for 96W. It's better I change it with that or I forget & the floater goes bad.

Finn~You got a lucky friend:) I got some starfruit today...3 for $2. So tasty. Tried cooking it?

When cooked, starfruit stays slightly crisp. Toss it into a stir-fry; braise it in honey, cardamom, and chicken broth for a luscious side dish; or layer slices over seared chicken breasts and broil. For a dessert, simmer sliced starfruit with cloves, cinnamon, honey, and a splash of rum to make a compote for waffles, or use instead of pineapple for an upside-down cake.

Quoting 252. Jaxpan:

f invest 93L stays relatively weak it is more likely to continue moving to the NW. If it happens to make it into the SW Atlantic, that area is very conducive for development along with rather warm water temps. For those saying that this will be nothing if it stays on the more southerly route may be in for a surprise.

Welcome jaxpan.. I agree. We can speculate all we want but it's a dynamic situation. There are certainly more conducive areas.. Looking at intensity models wise of the three best for 93L in the last 24hrs(HWFI 3kts error, GFDI 2.7, IVCN 3) so far one keeps it a TD, the other two never make it stronger than a TS. Sort of early to be betting on them but worth a look to see if the trend holds.

THades~ NAVY hasn't declared Nakri yet. If Nakri could pull it's moisture together it could be a monster but it's always been a bit messy with multiple blobs embedded. I'll go Halong becomes the strongest of this lot.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION GENEVIEVE (EP072014)

=========================================

SUBJECT: GENEVIEVE Southeast of Hawaii

At 0:00 AM UTC, Tropical Depression Genevieve (1008 hPa) located at 12.9N 148.5W or 550 NM southeast of South Point, Hawaii has sustained winds of 30 knots with gusts of 40 knots. The depression is reported as moving west at 4 knots.

Dvorak Intensity: T2.0

Forecast and Intensity
===================
12 HRS: 13.0N 149.3W - 35 knots (Tropical Cyclone)
24 HRS 13.1N 150.4W - 35 knots (Tropical Cyclone)

Additional Information
================
Satellite imagery and dvorak estimates indicate Genevieve is holding steady far to the southeast of the main Hawaiian islands. Deep convection remains located near the apparent center of the system. Thus Genevieve will continue to be classified as a tropical depression.

Genevieve continues moving toward the west at about 5 mph on the south side of a sub tropical ridge. The ridge is forecast to remain in place over the next several days. A general west to west-northwest track is expected through the forecast period which follows along with most model guidance. A slight increase in forward speed is forecast during days 3 through 5 as the system becomes influenced by low level easterly flow.

Intensity guidance indicates Genevieve will reach tropical storm intensity during the next 12 to 24 hours. CIMSS shear guidance indicates that the shear has relaxed in its vicinity with favorable conditions for slight strengthening during the next 24 hours. Mimic total precipitable water imagery shows some drier air moving down from the north just w of Genevieve. Ships guidance also indicates a bit of drier air near the system in 12 to 24 hours. The official forecast has Genevieve strengthening slightly in the short term reaching tropical storm strength in about 12 hours. Sea surface temperatures remain warm through the 5 day forecast period with little change indicated along its track. During days 3 through 5 a slight increase in shear along with some drier air will likely cause a gradual weakening trend during this time frame. The intensity forecast follows along with the majority of model guidance.

aqua~ What a tragic event.

SNK~ I've seen people have some success with the peroxide against the greening on their grape fruit trees..

Wab~ Glad you are enjoying the weather & the crops are thriving.

93L sure struggled today..

Finn~ Wow that's alot of starfruit & good for others:)

Got my eye on that wave behind 93L.. Fresh ASCAT..

Randrewl~ Yeah I don't bother alot of times to even post the spaghetti's til after it's declared. These that stay on cusp of becoming a closed low can be more frustrating...But since you declared them all crap I looked them up to see how they are doing. Judging them on average error on the 24hrs they've been running models on the storm..surprise, surprise...LBAR has a commanding lead with 24nm of error on it's 24hr forecast. The intensity forecasts for the last 24hrs on 93L have overall been good, way more than usual. Check out the numbers here.

I don't know what to say other than you will be missed again..

Additional Information
================
Satellite imagery indicates Genevieve is slowly restrengthening far to the southeast of the main Hawaiian islands. Deep convection is now located near the apparent center of the system. Thus Genevieve is now being classified as a tropical depression.

Genevieve is moving toward the west at about 5 mph on the south side of a sub tropical ridge. The ridge is forecast to remain in place over the next several days. A general west to west northwest track is expected through the forecast period which follows along with most model guidance. A slight increase in forward speed is forecast during days 3 through 5 as the system becomes influenced by low level easterly flow.

Intensity guidance indicates Genevieve will reach tropical storm intensity during the next 12 to 24 hours. The official forecast has Genevieve reaching tropical storm strength in about 12 hours. The little bit of shear currently over the system is forecast to lessen even more over the next couple of days. Thus some slight strengthening is forecast through 48 hours. During days 3 through 5 southwesterly shear is forecast to increase over the system with a gradual weakening trend during this time frame. This intensity forecast follows along with the majority of model guidance..

Skye, one of SugarBears local gardening friends told her how to keep the deer and rabbits out of the gardens. Cayanne Pepper and Ground Mustard. She is trying it now. Will let you know how it goes. Works good on the tree rats thats for sure. LOL

She is also using Peroxide on the fungus pathogens in the gardens. One cup in a gallon of water is the formula, put it in the watering can and water away. Don't know how that is working yet, she just started that.:)

GEOS-5 still taking 93L who seems to close off a low near every night & open up about every day along the way... to the islands & then to die on Hispaniola.

NE side of 93L having trouble with dry air .. and the dry air is moving further to the SW .. if it inhibits development it might be an open wave by the time it gets to the islands !!

Just off Africa...This one took down a plane already & killed a bunch of people.

Yeah, killer before even born, I was wondering if it would be bad news after the plane crashed, that small little purple blob... a big swirl now. Keeping an eye on that for sure, and the huge sized invest. Hold on to your hats...
