When to plant what & how in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama.

February brings North FL the 1st chance to plant a taste of summer. For SFL it's the last month to plant near most the remaining winter plants. It's been a crazy but prolific growing winter so far.. The plants that thrive on cold, my sea peas & lettuce are just now doing something to make food here. Everything else including things that have struggled the last few years like onions & garlic are thriving. Leafy greens are sweet with the few cold snaps. Coastal regions can get away with more, but over all gamble diverse, maybe shy from the stuff that can't handle the occasional near 90º day. Thinking of planting some corn to help shade the winter fare as we move toward spring.

North FL Plant cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes- beets, Broccoli*, cabbage, Carrots, cauliflower*, celery, kale*, Kohlrabi, leek, lettuce, Mustard, bunching onions, parsley, snow peas, potatoes, radish & turnips.

Central FL Get out the summer seeds!!!..Plant~ All beans, cantaloupes, corn, cucumber, eggplant, peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, all squash, tomatoes, watermelon, beets*, carrots, celery*, collards, leek, mustard, parsley, snow peas, potatoes*, radish & turnips*.

South FL Plant ALL beans, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, southern Peas, peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, All squash, tomatoes, watermelon, beets*, carrots*, collards*, Kohlrabi*, bunching onions, Sweet peas*, radish, turnips*.

February 2014
20th-21st Plant carrots, turnips, onions, beets, Irish potatoes, and other root crops in the South. Lettuce, cabbage, collards and other leafy vegetables will do well. Start seedbeds. Good days for transplanting.
25th-26th Any root crops that can be planted now will do well.
27th-28th Barren days. Fine for clearing, plowing, fertilizing, and killing plant pests.

I'm going to try to fergit as the oklahoma slang twang dadgum (not momgum ) expression is uttered here. I will fall into a deep deep deep 6 sleep and wake up as an Alice in Wonderland surrogate.

but before i od on sleeping pills like Marilyn Monroe I haffta say one thing:

I really enjoyed your friendship Skye. You were like an older sister to me and so the younger sis would always try to overcompensate by diatribes and detritus.

Over 2 yrs ago You commented about a specific lyric in this song and now you have the whole story.

Enigma "The Rivers Of Belief"

(PART 1: Way To Eternity)

...quem quaerimus adjutorem, nisi te, Domine.
Sancte Dues, Sancte Fortis, Sancte misericors Salvator,
amarae morti ne tradas nos.

(PART 2: Hallelujah)

Turn off the light, take a deep breath, and relax, relax...
Turn off the light, take a deep breath, relax ...

(PART 3: The Rivers Of Belief)

Take me back, to the rivers of belief.
Take me back, to the rivers of belief,
My friend.
I look inside my heart.
I look inside my soul.
I promise you,
I will return.

And when the Lamb opened the seventh seal,
Silence covered the Skye.

Take me back, to the rivers of belief.
Take me back, to the rivers of belief,
My friend.
I look inside my heart.
I look inside my soul.
I'm reaching out for you,
Let's hope one day.
We'll rest in peace.

but before i od on sleeping pills like Marilyn Monroe

These two enigmatic wtf, over lines cause people to worry. For this I deeply apologize. I don't even know what an AIW surrogate is! Next: but is a simple word yet the context could suggest you can take it literally or you can take it illiterally or you can be like the rest who could care less because I'm a dangerour, toxic bad bad girl?
this is for those who never dared to give me one shred of doubt that I just might be something you will never understand
I don't need your love or your respect or anything. This is Skye's blog and I just am trying to do damage control.

In conclusion:

(This song is performed by Dido and appears on the album No Angel (1999) and on the soundtrack Roswell (2002)

I didn't hear you leave
I wonder how am I still here
And I don't want to move a thing
It might change my memory

Oh, I am what I am, I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
And I won't go, I won't sleep, I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
And I won't leave, and I can't hide, I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me

I don't want to call my friends
They might wake me from this dream
And I can't leave this bed
Risk forgetting all that's been

Oh, I am what I am, I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
And I won't go, I won't sleep, and I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
And I won't leave, and I can't hide, I cannot be
Until you're resting here
And I won't go, and I won't sleep, and I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
And I won't leave, and I can't hide, I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me

Oh, I am what I am, I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
And I won't go, I won't sleep, and I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
And I won't leave, and I can't hide, I cannot be
Until you're resting here
And I won't go, and I won't sleep, and I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
And I won't leave, and I can't hide, I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me

Let the trials begin.. First up is The Barbara Pill case. Kerchner (the girl) has pleaded, should get 12 years. This is a little surprising.. Media is making this out like she will be the star witness in the trial. Though I think the video on this one is totally damming & there was another witness that was not involved. I'm just going to have to bite my tongue til this one is over. Will wager Bradley gets a death sentence.

Oh it must be this I'm remembering:

'In order to teach and corroborate his knowledge don Juan used three well-known psychotropic plants: peyote,
Lophophora williamasii; jimson weed, Datura inoxia; and a species of mushroom which belongs to the genus
Psylocebe. Through the separate ingestion of each of these hallucinogens he produced in me, as his apprentice,
some peculiar states of distorted perception, or altered consciousness, which I have called "states of nonordinary
reality." I have used the word "reality" because it was a major premise in don Juan's system of beliefs that the
states of consciousness produced by the ingestion of any of those three plants were not hallucinations, but concrete,
although unordinary, aspects of the reality of everyday life. Don Juan behaved toward these states of nonordinary
reality not "as if" they were real but "as" real." '

I do not know how this happened Skye but maybe there was an unconscious omisson. I did not see this when I replied. But I will say this: it is very possible your memory will be jogged when you remember you met this Don Juan Yaqui and you met Castaneda and you got some royalties off the serious of books. Please let me know when you remember more...

Were you ever here before Skye??

Guito is gone..91P is new.

With nothing really happening tropically, the north catching a little break in winter...thought it might be a good time to get people thinking about planting this year.

In years past, looking at garden successes & failures...some things have come clear.

~ Some forethought & preparation ahead of when you plant is important. It takes time to gather what you need & prepare plots & pots before you plant. Too many times this is put off til time to plant..then planting gets put off too late to get your crops done in time.

~ Don't get too ambitious.. It's best to put gardens in bed by bed or pot by pot. If you finish that then add another. Too many times people envision a full garden, feeding the house in the first year. It's possible, but it's easy to get discouraged putting in the garden or get it in too late & then have a hard fail as bugs or freeze take your late planted crops.

~Don't trust the big box gardens..they will sell you what you want to buy, not what will grow in your area that time of year. Try to connect, get plants & seeds from local people that are successful growers in your area. Your local AG extension has a huge amount of info about how to garden in your area.

It's a great year to garden if you can..produce prices are rising & nothing tastes like homegrown.

Good morning everyone~ Had some nice fog & 65º for feeding the ponies. They awoke me up running around, playing in it.

Finn~ Glad the rain is missing your fun. I've got to make that festival one year.

Gamma~ It's been a great winter with tastes of summer here & there. I keep getting the occasional passionfruit from the garden, which usually only ripens in summer. Both glad & sad to see the turkeys move on to somewhere else. There has been some goat talk..maybe some Dwarf Nigerians..to fill the empty space & give some tasty milk. Enjoying the peace & working with Buster more, we'll see. Sewing alot. Looking forward to your next painting. I'm still needing to finish one.

OR~ Feel your frustration. At that PowWow, met a guy going on about how great it was for the natives that got put on the road of tears & gave all that oil & gas rich land. He was fracking his land in Penn & proud of it. Going on about how safe & great for the earth it was. Turned out he was some rep of big energy being like a real life shrill. I drew the attention of some elders & gave him an earful..lol. We can lead by example & change things with how we spend our money, talk about it..beyond that, don't let them win by making you crazy:)

Thanks for the beautiful solar winds gif.

Hello Skye,

How's it going these days?  Kids and critters all good?  Thanks for the times you stop by my blog and check in.  I know I am really out of the loop these days here on WU.

Aren't we so lucky we are having a really nice winter while all our friends are getting one icy cold blast after another.

Seems like these fronts rarely make it down here to Dade and Broward County, we did not even get a drop of rain from that front yesterday or last night and still having temps around 85 every afternoon.

You take care and keep in touch!

Have a great weekend!

Pictures and video's don't do the lights justice !! if you ever have the opportunity to see them in person you will see what I mean .. Spent almost a year in northern Greenland where we looked south to see them .. an everyday occurrence in the winter up there . so beautiful and every minute its a different look and different colors ..

I know what you mean. I have gone outside to see the annual meteor showers and it is sooo surprising when one zooms across the sky low on the horizon you might worry it's coming at you! High overhead is Big Sky with beauty everywhere you look. I use binoculars like I did this morning to watch the 3rd quarter moon before sunrise.

Pictures and video's don't do the lights justice !! if you ever have the opportunity to see them in person you will see what I mean .. Spent almost a year in northern Greenland where we looked south to see them .. an everyday occurrence in the winter up there . so beautiful and every minute its a different look and different colors ..

I'm so so sooooo in shock this happened to the Golden State. Would love to redirect that energy in my area where those who would rather pollute, not plant and grow crops to feed the US and many other nations; would feign ignorance of the truth as it serves them, would swarm like flies on horse shhh...dung every time low cloud ceilings are here because they know the elderly will suffer from Nitrous Oxide and Carbon Monoxide, and pickup trucks without converters, tail pipes or mufflers toxic fumes, grind the nonexistent crumbling asphalt potholes even further, break the laws like drug dealers do, and all the while this happens every single woman I have ever spoke with shares my aggravation too being a sister myself too, and the cops-a-plenty only writing tickets for 18 wheeler trucks on a loop around this HELL created by the aforemention?

W
T
F
is the problem redirecting the weather here to clean the filth off the streets and possibly even some supernatural intervention as well!

Skye, I am just so upset the Prophecy has not yet been fullfilled here. I will be protected but they wont

I've been tempted to write a blog encouraging people to plant this spring.  If ever there was a year to garden this maybe it.. The CA summer food basket drought has really been down played..Just looks alarming for fresh produce this coming year from that area..  Here's an article LowerCal posted..

Central valley farmers will likely get none of their contracted water | 89.3 KPCC
(Click the above link for the full article. Excerpts follow with emphasis added by me.)

The
U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announced on Friday that initial water
allocations from the Central Valley Project will be at low levels. Agricultural contractors will receive zero allocations from the project, while municipal and industrial contractors will receive half of what they historically recieve.

The Central Valley Project is a system of reservoirs and canals overseen by the federal government that in normal years supplies more than two trillion gallons of water, mostly to farmers in the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys.

....

"We literally need biblical-style rainfall to increase our water allocation from zero," said Gayle Holman, a spokeswoman for the Westlands Water District, which serves mostly farms in Fresno and Kings counties. "Our
fear right now is that we are going to remain at zero through the whole
year, and that will have long term devastating effects.
"

Holman said the district anticipates that about a third of the land it serves will go unplanted - an area of about 300 square miles.

Sadly we've lost SQUAWK..His condolences can be left on NRAamy's blog.

Morning Hood..& everyone.

Overall I'm glad I went with giving this front a good chance to lift north & not wreck the central & south FL weekend. Models were everywhere. NAM drowned the weekend. GEOS-5 which has done really well this winter, lifted it mostly north. Chances of a few scattered storms today but overall shouldn't be a complete wash out.. Looks even drier tomorrow.

No rain so far and looking like not much chance tonight. Of course, depending on exactly where this thing stalls might get some over the weekend.

You oughta see all the peach blossoms I have, and some fruit setting already.

Looks like most of this is intensifying after it moves offshore. Clouds haven't been rushing so hard from the south.

Finn~ Hope all this lifts north enough to miss your festival. That one always looks fun & inspiring.

Max in Petsmart must have been fun. Their expressions of amazement in that store can be like a kid in a toy store. Good to see them aging well & Lucy's joints on the mend.

Backyard is quiet this morning. Peaceful even.

Now for some incoming..

Event into space in Sri Lanka on Friday, 21 February, 2014 at 04:06 (04:06 AM) UTC.
Description
Scientists at several universities in Sri Lanka have been examining unknown stones that fell on a house in Ragala, Walapane - in a mountainous part of Sri Lanka - early in the morning yesterday (February 19, 2014). At least one scientist, Professor Athula Senarathna of the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, said today that the stone was a meteorite, or rock from space. The owner of the house upon which the strange stone fell in Ragala is H.B. Ranjanee. According to Hiru News, a local news outlet, the Crime Division of the Ragala police conducted an investigation into the fall of the unknown stone. Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told Hiru News that particles of the stone scattered within an area of 26 square feet. The following video is not in English, but it gives you a clear idea of the possible meteorite fall in Ragala.

(I selected one of three available on youtube..)

I love those night sat pics you post every now and then - like the one above. Makes me realize that my porch light is part of the yellow area... :)
Glad the turkey's are well and that you have more time for the ponies and stuff. And that Greenland is getting ice.

Missed the 'Love Your Pet' day yesterday, but that day is every day for us, because Max and Sophie are both getting old. I can see their "Chi" (life force) slowing down - we adopted them 8 years ago and don't really know how old they are. But they're hanging on and have no pains. I took Max to Petsupermarket the other day and he finally found out where all the goodies come from LOL! "Little" Lucy is doing very well with her joint meds, no knee luxating for 2 months now :)

Rain is forecast for this weekend's Lake Worth Street Painting Festival (the biggest one in the world). If it wasn't for the festival, I'd be looking forward to rain.

Thanks for 158. info. Always nice to know more :)

Kinda worried about the folk around there though..
Was moving pretty quick..
Turkeys will be fine I bet..

Don't see solar delay much.

Really nice to see family there get missed by even further.

Thanks.. Things did sound really good with the turkeys.

Everyone have a safe night & tomorrow.

Delta launch from Cape Canaveral, FL at 8:40pm EDT.

Pros~ Mimi is so cute!

Feel a little bad.. I sold my pet turkeys on love your pet day? Noooo..lol. Actually I got texts from their new home. They were giving them all sorts of attention, enjoying the turkey's company on their porch & all..They went to a ministry for wayward guys. They were going on about how sweet they are. As sad as it was they are getting to go somewhere they can have chicks & all.

OR~ Did leave me more time for ponies.. Got a kiss from them. I think they were kind of glad to see them go.
