When to plant what & how in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama.
February brings North FL the 1st chance to plant a taste of summer. For SFL it's the last month to plant near most the remaining winter plants. It's been a crazy but prolific growing winter so far.. The plants that thrive on cold, my sea peas & lettuce are just now doing something to make food here. Everything else including things that have struggled the last few years like onions & garlic are thriving. Leafy greens are sweet with the few cold snaps. Coastal regions can get away with more, but over all gamble diverse, maybe shy from the stuff that can't handle the occasional near 90º day. Thinking of planting some corn to help shade the winter fare as we move toward spring.
North FL Plant cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes- beets, Broccoli*, cabbage, Carrots, cauliflower*, celery, kale*, Kohlrabi, leek, lettuce, Mustard, bunching onions, parsley, snow peas, potatoes, radish & turnips.
Central FL Get out the summer seeds!!!..Plant~ All beans, cantaloupes, corn, cucumber, eggplant, peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, all squash, tomatoes, watermelon, beets*, carrots, celery*, collards, leek, mustard, parsley, snow peas, potatoes*, radish & turnips*.
South FL Plant ALL beans, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, southern Peas, peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, All squash, tomatoes, watermelon, beets*, carrots*, collards*, Kohlrabi*, bunching onions, Sweet peas*, radish, turnips*.
20th-21st Plant carrots, turnips, onions, beets, Irish potatoes, and other root crops in the South. Lettuce, cabbage, collards and other leafy vegetables will do well. Start seedbeds. Good days for transplanting.
25th-26th Any root crops that can be planted now will do well.
27th-28th Barren days. Fine for clearing, plowing, fertilizing, and killing plant pests.
